Two Things Tuesday

There's no hope that I will ever put two productive days together in a row, but lately I'm finding I'm barely managing one major to-do each day on top of the dailies.
So my goal is to get two things done today!

I had a tearful meltdown yesterday over clocks.
We are up to four of them not working. I'm certainly a clock person and own a lot of them. I used to have a weekly card for winding the clocks but lately, due to the dying clocks, this card is no longer needed. Sigh...
The cuckoo clock has never been set up in the apartment because if stopped working before the move and I couldn't think of a place for it. Because they are wound daily, cuckoo clocks tend to not last. This one was last repaired when it was about 80 years old and at the time the clock repair man wasn't hopeful it would last. It didn't.
The grandfather clock hasn't worked for several years now, probably about 7 years. I don't think any grandkid has heard it go. That problem should be easy to fix, the mechanism is good, just needs an oiling, but the hands tend to slip their gear when the time is adjusted and it didn't make it through a time change. Because it is so loud, we haven't had it striking the hour since moving here but I miss the tick.
Last year, the wall clock (which ticks and strikes) went in the living room and the clock repairman said the 40 year old quartz mechanism was 'gone.' He cleaned it but had no faith it would keep going and sure enough, it died in the past 2 weeks. He can put in a new mechanism but it won't have the same sound as our current clock does. So it will be a new clock in the old case. I rebelled against that and paid for the attempt at a repair as a result. I gambled, and lost. Personally, it is the sound that means so much to me, not the look of clock (which I've always found unappealing, right from when we got it as a wedding present.) The kids were going to fight over the clock on our death so maybe it is time to just give it up now. I will consult them as to their thoughts on a repair that will change the clock sound.
Finally, after the wall clock came back with its temporary repair, the ship's clock in the kitchen died. A spring sprung while it was being wound. It desperately needs a cleaning as well as a repair.
Each of the clocks has sentimental value, the cuckoo clock obviously being the least important since it is in a box in the storage locker downstairs.
My goal for today will be to take in the cuckoo clock and the ship's clock to get quotes on what if anything can be done.
My secondary goal will be to set up a meeting and to get my key fob updated so I can get into the third building in the complex through the front door.
Dh is home, got in a few hours late on Sunday. He leaves again in 10 days.
Sunday/Monday I did 6 loads of laundry for him, washing everything he brought back, including the material he brought back to gift or sell. Everything smelled dirty and was dusty (even the material was dusty, since it is displayed for sale on open porches.) Yesterday we got the waterbed topped up with water. Sunday night Dh was sick from his last meal in Tanzania, so I had extra bed linen laundry to do as well. And I got a mass email sent.
The rest of yesterday was spent researching upcoming purchases. His checked suitcase's zipper has finally given up the ghost and while it could be repaired under the warrant, the bag is so scruffy looking it isn't worth paying shipping to/from the manufacturer to get the work done, or to pay someone to put in a new one here. My suitcase is one size down and still going strong so he can use that until the next time he goes away for a month. I've found something promising we can pick up when that happens as he says he doesn't want to use our other x-large suitcase. We bought the suitcases in Sydney in 2009 so that "lifetime warranty" really owes us nothing. His has been around the world at least 8 times, and mine has been around 2x. Not to mention many trips to Europe. What triggered me buying a suitcase for myself when in Sydney was that the 'normal' wheeled suitcases I had weren't working well on pavement or cobblestones and this Eagle Creek had amazing wheels. When dh saw it that night, he wanted one too so we went back to the store and bought a second one, in a larger size, for him. (I bought smaller to limit what I traveled with so I could lift my own suitcase.)
After we worked out that he didn't really need a new suitcase immediately, I started in on looking for a new computer backpack for him. His is in really, really, bad shape. This is another 'lifetime warranty' item but it has been replaced once already by the manufacturer and is no longer made. I found some really interesting looking ones that cost a small fortune but will be worth it since he travels so much. And any of them will look better than what he has now. He'll put a call into Kensington to see about replacing the bag he has now once more. Because his next two trips are with carry-on only and he can't take his computer backpack with him plus a carry-one bag, we have a month to get find out what will happen with his old bag.
Finally, I spent some time looking for a replacement quartz movement that has the same sound as the living room clock. No luck but at least now I believe the clock repair guy that he can't give me the same sound I have now.
At that point it was time to cook dinner, which I did, and I had my cry over the clocks at that point.
I think my issue is that everything is wearing out and breaking down at the same point that I feel like I'm wearing out and breaking down.

it is hard when everything breaks at the same time; especially items that are sentimental. (((d Kathryn)))

((Kathryn)), I'm sorry about the trouble you're having with so many of your clocks.
Good morning,
blessed
A belated
Happy Birthday to
Lady M!
Having a quiet day after lots of errands yesterday. Rewarded myself by going to H obby L obby just to stroll around & enjoy their Fall & Christmas decor. I did it backwards by mistake though

-- saw all the Christmas misc first & ended up in Fall aisles afterward. Bought a few small items & some fabric. I wasn't planning on the fabric but found a kitchen/cooking/Santa themed bolt that I instantly had an idea for so I gave in to this impulse buy. Easy to do since it was 50% off, too.
My two things will be to (finally) package some cheeses for the freezer. I've been procrastinating on that & have already opened one of the packages. The other is to type up a recipe so that it is easier to read. Several weeks ago I made a meat & cheese stuffed shells recipe & brought the recipe, cut from the back of the pasta box, to my desk to type it up. The font size is tiny & directions are all one paragraph. I prefer line by line instructions & a much larger font. It's still sitting here & I don't want to accidentally lose it among other paperwork.
Bought a gyro kit & extra lettuce so that will be dinner tonight. Have plenty of tomatoes from S am's to go with them, too. Still missing the delicious farm stand tomatoes, & dh is still in corn on the cob withdrawal

.
~~~ Waving to everyone. Hope you all have a wonderful day!
today's realization for me: I did it again
- I made all the outside jobs look overwhelming instead of realizing that it's a bunch of little doable jobs!
I also realized that I was expecting myself to everything - what stress! I can't possibly do everything-no one can!
Why I forget is amazing to me!
knowing that I was doing these two things again gave me an attitude adjustment that I can only do my best and it's all okay. Remembering this made all the stress roll off my shoulders. I don't have to do 20 hours of hard labor in the yard or be all for everything and everybody. Just not possible. it's all okay!
I suddenly have peace again with my expectations of what I can do.
Okay it's a new day!!! it's wonderful! Hope you have a wonderful new day!!!!
what's a must:
mom meds am pm
mom water, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack
15 minutes can get things done is my Motto today.
Thank you Kathryn for getting us started today. I KWYM about two days in a row.
I'm considering cancelling my workout today - my foot is still sore - I see doc end of next week anyway (whoops, that is on this Friday!) so can talk then, and also my wrist is staying sore. I thought it would be better after I wasn't working it so in PT. And dh came home with news this a.m. (he works out at 7 a.m.) that today is the last day for his trainer there, they're closing for their move at Thanksgiving, and my trainer will be on off on Thursday because he has a lot of vacation time he hasn't used, and he's looking for a job anyway. So I'm really considering cancelling today, and cancelling there. My monthly charge goes in again on the 27th but if I pay for another month it would take me to Thanksgiving, but I'm not sure there will be a trainer if R is taking a lot of vacation. So that feels up in the air.
----------------
Much later, workout cancelled, and the Zoom mentor call was also cancelled by my mentee. So I'm free free free!
I need to run out for dh, tho. He needs almond milk (doesn't bump up blood sugar) and things dropped off at cleaners. I put him off yesterday because I wasn't going out but I thought I was today....so I'll do it.
I ended up picking up mom - it's raining here!!!!
she helped as she could - her mind kept going from one item to the next of what to do. I totally understand
but she was busy here so that is good
Unfortunately it stopped raining after 15 minutes after it started and now is sunny. We need rain. Time for me to do a dance like Betty White on the movie : The Proposal.
hello hello again.
