I am still recovering from the crud, but feeling better. Will finally take a shower and spend the day just resting.

My first two 'events' of the day are done and I got my key fob reprogrammed for tomorrow so that's another item off my list.

The window guy came an hour early so dh was undressed and exercising. I had, thankfully, just rearranged the kitchen to give access to the window and dh ran around and did the other rooms. The guy took 15 minutes. I will go around now and take temperature readings to see if there was a big effect from cutting the window opening down to 4".

I still have to put everything back which will take longer than 15 minutes but I will also clean as I go.

Lucylee: I fully believe you about the chiming clock and significant events. The grandfather clock stopped working the day of my father's funeral (just like in the song, except for the "never to go again".) It would need adjusting by the clockmaker about every 9 - 18 months and this was one of those times. And my dad stopped using the ships clock because "it wasn't working" and I brought it home after he died and wound it and it kept perfect time in my place. It was only about a year later that we noticed it chimed 9, 10 and 11 bells. It should stop at 8 bells. So maybe that's why dad said it was broken! I'm hoping the clockmaker can fix the winding spring but not fix the wrong number of bells because that's what we really love about this clock!

Chili prep is underway. I questioned myself about my plans for making such a large batch and asked DH for his input. He gave double thumbs up and encouraged me to go forward. I am cooking 17 lbs of meat (10lb hamburger, 5lb blue and gold sausage, and 2 lbs of bacon) as the base for the chili. I usually only cook 4-5lb of meat for the chili contest so this is more than triple the size. I am counting on having plenty to package & freeze for easy future meals. I am using 2 different methods of browning the meat. I have half of it browning in a large electric skillet and the other half cooking in a roaster. I rarely use either of these appliances so they better earn their usefulness, or they will be prime consideration when decluttering. Once all the meat gets browned, then I combine it all to the roaster and have it simmering most of the day while adding other ingredients.
Have I ever done this method before? No.
Am I making it up as I go along? Yes.
Will it work better than my normal method? I have no idea....but being creative is what makes it feel like fun to me.

Mom is doing very well this morning - She wants to stay home this morning but I still have to get her the meds/water and make sure she eats. I have to figure out a way that I can get meds to her without me always having to go over morning and night. (and without her taking apart the electric box it would come in).

I am going to watch this mornings Garden Answer and then really start the day!

spoke to mom - I will order lunch for her or make her lunch - I am not sure yet. I have to go over there no matter what.
I will pull a sewing project that I think she will do if she wants to - I am doing one - trying to get it done for Christmas. I will figure it out.

hello d everyone. I have finally regrouped - the house hasn't but I have -

Blessed, the window is not a fix but a way to stop me from opening the window fully in order to let outside air in. They have decided that after 56 years of no-one falling out of a window, we all need to be trapped in apartments that are overheated for our own safety.

On the plus side, the 'fix' has only one screw so we intend to remove the majority of the pieces of hardware in the next few days. In the case of my windows with blinds, if it is windy on that side of the building, the window has to be open fully (it is a tilt window) in order to allow the air to blow straight in. If it is not, the air blows upwards along the glass and pushes the blinds out into the room, so the blinds have to be 70% open. But that lets the sun in and since there is no UV protection on our 56 year old windows, it means the room will heat up a lot, even if it is only freezing outside.

On windows with drapes or vertical blinds, this isn't as big an issue. But these limiters are incredibly intrusive on our lives since we have no control over the heat coming off the radiators, and now they have taken away our ability to open the window wide to counter-act the heat of the radiator. This is a problem we get for 2 - 3 weeks a year, when there is 70+ degree weather during the 'heating season.' But everyone had a method to deal with it by assorted methods of pulling air from outside, if not in the daytime, at least at night when it drops to 40 - 50. Now we can no longer open the window wide enough to either insert an portable air conditioner's exhaust hose, or a fan.

I've taken advantage of everything being away from the windows to clean them. I still have 3 more to do and I've lost all my energy so I may end up stopping and leaving them. The landlord no longer cleans the outside of the windows so they are fairly dirty so I've stopped cleaning on the inside. I'm sad to say that cleaning on the inside did make things look better so I guess I need to keep that chore up.

d Kathryn, so frustrating that you can't open your window fully. too bad the windows don't have a uv screen to reduce heat coming in the window.
I am so sorry that this is an issue. so frustrating when it's too hot. Dh and I had an apartment like that. so hard.
