What are you doing today? Quiet day with a few family members? Big blow out day? Hosting or visiting? Cooking?

And...what are you thankful today? I'm thankful for you ladies and our friendship, for your wise ways and our time together. It's a rare thing we have here.

yesterday I had a shut down day but today feel festive and so much better!

first make the bacon, shred carrots, cut red onions, cut up parsley - make dressing for it - the bit of bacon grease, oil, vinegar, dijon, s/p. for the carrot salad
2nd make the Swiss medley not a fav for me
3rd make the green bean casserole - not a fav for me
I am tempted to make plain green beans but why do more work 8-)

may you all have a wonderful Thursday

had my first cup of coffee - something so simple can be so nice!
I turned on the parade.

I've been wide awake since just after 4. I did more researching last night.

Have a great turkey day!

Question... What is the difference between dressing and stuffing? Are the ingredients different or the cooking method? Let me know.

Dh just left to go Christmas shopping for me.

hello d cathy!
how is your dh today - is he feeling calmer now that the anesthesia is free of his system. praying he is.

in our house - stuffing and dressing are interchangeable names for what we put in the turkey or cook on the side.

Good morning, everyone.
Gather together, gather smiles, gather 'round, gather memories of those glimpses of Thanksgiving Day parades of the past that were YOUR favorites and made you glad you watched! I'm remembering the black and white Miracle on 34th Street parade with Kris Kringle rescuing, and the times the Sesame Street muppets would be peeking out of the windows of a float with just the hint of Jim Henson and Frank Oz, etc., being there... .. or were they ... .. modesty covering talent for our sakes! In fact, all the parade floatiness is always modesty covering talent, when you think about it. "Look up there at the mirth we're giving you - pay no attention to us workers down here wearing ourselves out to make it happen." And the Big Brass Bands, Oompah, oompah, oompah-pah!

We will go to dstepson and dstepdil's today at one. She likes having the Thanksgiving National Dog Show on while we're there - also great fun.

The newlyweds will come to our house this afternoon and evening, but less for any food than for working together and talking out a lot of stuff. Dd26 will help me make some decisions about whether we will decorate at all this year, when she can take off work to give us some help, etc.

Agreeing I'm thankful for the village, too.

Cathy, I think originally the only difference was whether you would DRESS the turkey with a side dish OR be willing to STUFF it into a raw bird or not - yet no one much does that anymore, and the two terms are pretty much interchangeable. I've noticed that "dressing" is usually used after the word "turkey" here - "the turkey-dressing". But "stuffing" is more often a stand-alone word. Wonder if that came about partly because of the hugely popular "Stove-Top Stuffing" in that convenient red box.

We do stove top .
I have been away since 2 :30 ish could not get bach to sleep. J & C has my concerns.
Other concerns the spices in various foods this year to avoid, late meal I"ll be eating at my reg. time and tasting some of the foods
at the family gathering. 11 people not used to that.
I did cut the ch. pie & 2 cheese cakes I bought to take.
[ That made me think of LH he used to cut the pies for me was excellent at it too.]
I have some relaxing music on now after qt.
Freezing fog was in our forecast.

I need to s2s then dry my hair.
Walk later to be sure to have that done.

I did go outside and greet the day as the pink sunrise was glowing and took a few deep breaths.

It's a rare thing we have here.
I totally agree. I am so very thankful for this SHE village that is full of dear friends.

I have been doing some food prep so it is assembled & ready to be cooked. I will start cooking everything in about 1/2 hour. Our menu today -
** Cajun Turkey
** Creole stuffing with sausage & shrimp. This stuffing was cooked (smoked) inside the turkey but it also spills out and fills the pan. I have always considered what is inside the turkey to be called stuffing and what is outside is called dressing. Ingredients are the same.
** Smoked Bologna. Is this an Okie thang?
** 3 kinds of potatoes - Why? I couldn't choose my favorite so went with all.
** Mashed potatoes
** Roasted potatoes
** Scallop potatoes
** Turkey gravy
** Green salad
** Italian green beans
** Deviled eggs
** Hawaiian Rolls
** Pecan pie
** Pumpkin roll
** Tray of cheese, meat slices and crackers for snacking

DGS27 just walked through our front door and so it begins......*POOF*

you know how things happen - I remember when I tried to be perfect with cooking when I was younger - I wanted to bring the most beautiful dishes when young. I wanted to be the next Martha Stewart - lol being disorganized and having ADHD really made that difficult :D

today I made 1-1/2 pds bacon for the carrot salad. I had it cooled on the counter but dd's dog got quite a bit of it; even though we were right by him.
thank goodness I had extra bacon. dd was upset but I told her it wasn't a big thing. Thank goodness that older age helps one see the humor of it and know that everything will be okay - it's not the end of the world.
:D :D :D

I still have to make the dressing for the carrot salad - done.
I made the dishes d sis in law wanted - too heavy for me. it's all that cheese/cream of mushroom etc.
my dishes are done
dd younger helped a bit (even if her back is bad) with straightening
dd older got mom
I have to make mom breakfast for tomorrow and left overs from today for her dinner for tomorrow
dishes are washing themselves again

I can't believe my neighbors lawn service is working today- I feel for the workmen
mom is watching White Christmas after she helped with the parsley
now for counters and stove.
mom is cold. - I have it at 72 and for me that is hot.

still need to take a shower and hopefully play with dogs before we leave.

happy thanksgiving everyone
