December 27, 2024 PWYC Friday! Good day to you!

Here are two funnies to start our day- a good way to start a day is with a smile - poem by anonymous

'Twas the month after Christmas,
and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste
At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber),
I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared:
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No, thank you, please."
As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt—
I said to myself, as I only can,
"You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!"
So—away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
‘Til all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won't have a cookie—not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie;
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore—
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot,
Happy New Year to all, and to all a good diet!

Another:

by Lisa's Odd thoughts ("oh yeah I'm overthinking it") I love this one.

Twas the day after Christmas, and all through my home
The floor was all covered with packaging foam.
The stockings were flung by the couch without care
And emptied soon after St. Nick had been there.

My family was napping in cribs and on couches
‘Cause sugar overloading had made them all grouches.
And the babe in his sleeper and I with my phone
Had just settled down for some time all alone.

When the thought to my mind arose with such force,
There’s so much to clean up, so PANIC of course!
Away to the kitchen I flew like a flash
To see all the messes and new-presents stash.

The lights on the tree that once had been so sweet
Just lit up the mess that now littered my feet.
Then what to my wandering eyes should appear
But even more stuff! And not one surface clear.

With a nod of my head, so lively and quick,
I went straight to work with the speed of St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles, I swept through the room
While I whimpered and pouted and reached for the broom.

“The boxes! The used bows! The piles of gift wrap!
The toys! The small pieces! The messes of big crap!
From the tops of the tables, To the ends of the hall!
Now put away! Put away! Put away all!”

My eyes—how they widened! The messes, how many!
My cheeks were a huffing, the toys were a plenty!
My own little mouth I stuffed with candy a bit
As I found the last pieces with wrappers on it.

I was dressed in my jammies from head to my toes.
I didn’t get dressed, but just picked up the bows.
A bundle of toys were all spread from their packs
And I picked them all up with some strain in my back.

I picked up the wrapping and boxes galore.
I picked up the new trains and the puzzles some more.
I put away leftovers and made a big stack
Of unused paper plates, now returned to their pack.

I hung the new clothes in my closet quite nicely
And folded the things for my drawers so precisely.
I put away candy and treats way up high
Away from the reach of my sweet little guys.

I assembled new toys and pulled off new tags,
I put away games and the Christmas gift bags.
I was feeling quite good and thought I was done,
But found one messy spot, just the final last one!

So I peeked in the sink, and despite my best wishes
Found a towering pile of gross dirty dishes!
So I sighed a big sigh, so tired and meek,
“Merry Christmas to me—these can wait til next week!”

have a wonderful day everyone!

I pulled laundry from all over and it is now on the kitchen floor which is right next to our laundry room - dh had to climb around the mountains of laundry - (I gave him his exercise for the day)

dh started to complain about the dog toys, the stuff from christmas and the laundry - I was able to make him realize that christmas just happened and he smiled when I told him that he hid during all the prep this last week until today - I even took down the tree without help.

At first I thought he saw that maybe he is over focusing - nope - the humor lasted exactly 5 minutes - he thought he would switch the laundry - he saw that a (one) Kleenex has been left in someones pocket in the dryer and it was everywhere - well in the thingy that takes the lint - he started to say how dangerous it was and complaining - and then he wanted to continue doing laundry getting more and more frustrated. I sent him out of the kitchen. Not going down that road for the rest of the day. 8-) :D -

I keep him young - or maybe a bit crazy :D

blessed,
Thank you for your sweet poetic gifts to us.
You are a great appreciator of humor, and ya' know what they say about a merry heart!

Mystery, thinking of you with your (potentially systemic?) itching difficulties. I hope your celebrations were all terrific and not bothered by it much.

Wondering how the In Canadas' celebrations went with the children - hoping the dgds had no further need of drs.

We've just gotten in a big haul of groceries. HRH has some bottled organic orange juices to evaluate. (plus some oranges to make his own)
I have some cooking ahead of me, but that's tomorrow.

Today the newlyweds grace us with a rare appearance (smile). I teased them on Christmas morning with a text asking to call them unless they were newlyweddedly indisposed. Dsonil responded instantly, "That's later" and when dd called we were all laughing into our phones.

Already today, I've started a new crop of broccoli :) , watered some violets, made some more repositionable stickers for regular activities in my planner and gotten the kitchen back to status after grocery put-away.

Hi! After two naps yesterday< i still needed to wake up with an alarm just after 7 so I could get the compost and recycling out to the end of the driveway.

I just had a fabulous hot shower. There is very little to do around the house. I want to take down Christmas, but dh has asked me to wait until January 1st.

I have a week to go through so cupboards to fill the 4th garbage bag. I will concentrate on the bathroom. I also have a small pile of stuff in the pantry. I also have a box for donations in the trunk of my car.

Thank you, bw2, for your warm start for us today!

I personally don't want to do anything today - especially going to temple tonight, but I will go at least for the service. If I can slip out with some latkes I'll be very happy.

Definitely the Idonnwannas.

I understand the donwannas, Twins.
We have to go out to my dmom’s for our Christmas breakfast, which we are having for supper, so we’re not eating till 5:00 pm.
I don’t want to eat anything. I have lost six pounds this week, just worrying about the biopsy.
They never called back yesterday so I called again today, had to leave a message.

I am a little steadier on my feet today, so maybe the head/chest problem is improving.

I tried on my Christmas clothes… and they do fit… not 100% cotton on the tops, but I can wear them to church for dsisil2b to see.

I also understand the naps, Cathy! Christmas is exhausting.

Have fun with the newlyweds, Harriet!

Thanks for the cheery start, blessed. I love the poems.

I am just completely freaking out over here. Doctor’s office won’t call back… I’m spending all my time sitting in the bathroom, I feel weak and shaky and nauseous and I’m burning up… and I just can’t stand this! Dgd is being so sweet and kind to me… dgs still asleep.
I haven’t eaten a thing but I’ve been drinking some flavored water. My mouth is just dry.

I did get all my Christmas boxes put away and tried on clothes.
