Rosa 'Cécile Brünner', also known as 'Mlle Cécile Brünner', 'Sweetheart Rose', 'Malteser Rose', or 'Mignon', is a light pink polyantha rose (sometimes classified as a China rose)bred in France by Marie Ducher and introduced by her son-in-law, Joseph Pernet-Ducher in 1881. Its parents were a double-flowered R. multiflora and a hybrid tea rose, either 'Souvenir d'un Ami' or a seedling of 'Mme de Tartas'. It is not clear if the rose was named after the sister (1853–1927) or daughter (b. 1879) of Ulrich Brunner.

Cécile Brünner' has small double flowers, developing from high-centred buds to form pom-poms with a diameter of 2 to 6.5 cm (0.75 in to 2.5 in). Their pink colour fades from the outside with age, resulting in pale pink edges with yellow undertones and a deeper pink center. The flowers appear abundantly in large clusters throughout the season, have a petal count over 50 and are moderately and sweetly scented.

The shrub is short but vigorous, with very few prickles, smooth, mid green leaves, and a height of 60 to 120 cm (2 to 4 feet) at an average width of 60 cm (2 feet). 'Cécile Brünner' prefers a sunny situation, but tolerates shade and poorer soils, is very disease resistant and winter hardy up to −26 °C. 'Cécile Brünner' can also be grown as a garden plant or in pots and greenhouses, and, when cut, the flowers are perfect for buttonholes.

This rose is one of my favourites, and it's very happy in a large pot in a sheltered spot on my patio. It's always one of the first (if not the first!) to flower each year, often as early as late April / early May.

Good morning, everyone, and happy Saturday!

Trissie, I hope the twins' party was a success. I'm sure the beautiful cake was appreciated!

L.Ann, that's very good news about DD's appointment!

Laura, the paint colour sounds very pretty.

Gma, so sorry about your foot - that does sound soft to manage. So glad your DBro is coming to support you.

Yesterday evening went ok - I had a lovely walk round the valley park. DH decided he needed help cooking their supper (why?! He's a perfectly good cook!) as the pie had to be heated at 180C and the oven chips at gas 6. Advised him they don't need chips with pie, as there's carbohydrate in the pastry. He insisted, so advised 180 = Gas 4 , but in this case to set oven at Gas 5 and out the chips on the top shelf and the pie towards the bottom, and test the latter with the meat thermometer to ensure it was piping hot all the way through. BIL tried to argue something, but I told him our oven is hotter at the top than the bottom!

Jude came down to play, show us her tummy and ask very politely for her supper. Freddie sat with his back to us all (I've warned BIL not to touch him!) and Matilda jumped on the dining table, so everything 's about par for the course.

It's just after 7 am, and the men are up, showered and dressed, TV/ iPad on . Loudly. Matilda has escaped from the bedroom to insist everyone gives her some attention! Fortunately, it's going to be a lovely sunny day ! They want to go to Waitrose first, for some reason, so I've asked them to get some chocolate digestives for the workmen next week. (They're technically Dnextdoorneighbour C 's workmen for her fibre connection, but if they're going to be working from our path, I think some coffee and chocolate digestives will ensure they clear up any mess! )

So, I need to get up, shower and dress, so I'm ready to face everyone when they come back from Waitrose! Some housework would be good, but I'll leave that until they've finally left for their day out. I need to continue with my digital decluttering. Other things OMM - type that article for the parish magazine for DF E and send it to SR, (needs to be done today or tomorrow at the latest!) and write report for MD. A walk and some garden time would be good, and I need to prep lunch for tomorrow and baked something for us.

kittykat, thanks for the start ! I would love to know all you know about flowers ! The only thing I'm good at, with roses, is how to watch them die  . This house we bought has roses in the garden, but as with my previous house, I'm not sure how to take proper care of them. Since MrNG and I want to grow as much edible stuff as we can, they are not our priority.
I hope BIL leaves your house soon... You do deserve a reward for hosting him !

And now I want to see the week's posts and see if trissie shared a pic of the cake

It's a grey Saturday here, after a whole week of sunny days - unfortunately I was at payroll all week. At least the kids enjoyed time outdoors with MrNG taking them in the forest for a hike, and some various sighteeing, and just time in the garden.
Today MrNG is helping people move from their current house to a new one not far away. They are the family of DS9's school friend A-- who spent a day and a night here this past week. Too bad A-- is leaving to a different middle shool next September, they are like best friends and very close.
Nothing planned, I want to relax and do some organization tasks and enjoy being with my kids.

TADAs
a lol in
breakfast, fed kids, cooked two payroll lunches for me out of leftovers
lol out on patio drying rack
MrNG left to help friends move, taking our electric unscrewing tool (name?) and our hand truck
switched laptop to CI here and wasted half an hour doomscrolling

I hope to BBL with TADAs. If I don't come back later today, have a beautiful Saturday !

Happy Saturday!

Frenchie, how are things with MrNiceGuy's job? Is he looking for a stable employement, or continuing a self-employment? I think he was in consulting?
kittykatt, men will be men :-) and well, everything's better with fries, right? :-)

I tried to post last night, but didn't notice that when I hit the send button, another post had appeared in the meantime and mine didn't go through. So this is what I wrote!
I am home! The thirty minutes we had for parking was not enough (don't you love inner city parking?), we were ten minutes late, but it was OK, as we were renting the entire place for 2.5 hours and the game was only for an hour (it's more of a party venue with escape rooms than escape rooms per se, they have a big lounge aimed at kids and for a fee you can bring your own food). Girls had fun and that is what counts! And I even got to read a book while they were doing their things :-)
And now I am off to bed, hoping I will be able to fall asleep! Switching off after having to be alert for driving is always tough for me. CU all tomorrow!

It's now just past 11am, there's still two extra girls here, but I need to go to the garden center because it closes at 1pm. We need a replacement gooseberry tree, a jostaberry tree, and an apricot tree. And I want to pick up some pansies for the windowsill boxes, to have something nice before it's time for my usual geraniums (those are not to be put outside till after the "three ice men" - May 11-13, and if you've never heard of that tradition, you can read about it here: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden ... ce-men.htm )
So anyway, i am off!

Good morning, FFB! Roses are my passion in the garden, but they are quite a lot of regular work to keep them looking their best. So I totally understand when growing things to eat is your priority, roses are not important! Mr NG's power tool to unscrew this gap sounds like an "electric screwdriver" or a "power driver". The electric screwdriver is smaller and designed for use on smaller, more delicate jobs (possibly some furniture) and the power driver is larger, more powerful and can cope with tougher jobs.

The men have been safely launched, I've digitally decluttered another year of photos, out a few things in my Amazon basket fore to think about, and just enjoyed the quiet with the cats. Matilda is outraged she can't go in the spare room ATM (I advised BIL to keep his door closed, and he has actually followed my suggestion! Otherwise , Freddie is likely to invade at 3am and Matilda has no concept or personal property, so is likely to go through *everything*!)

Today is cloudy, unlike the sun and blue sky yesterday, but it's dry, so the men should have a good time today, and I'm hoping I will, too! :D

kittykatt, see, even BIL is able to learn new things! :-)

We're home. No more red gooseberry trees - the bare-root ones have already been potted and the pots won't be for sale till June. I'll check at a couple other nurseries tomorrow (there's one close to my church and another one close to the LIDL), but if not, we'll just wait till summer!

Morning all. I have almost a month extra for planting. Have to get the super hardy ones for anything in may. June is usually safe. Garden seeds can be done a bit sooner.

Kittykat I hope you have a peaceful time while the boys are out. That rose sounds really pretty. Might survive up here. It does get colder than that but usually in short stretches.

Trissie sounds like fun was had by all. Hopefully you can find the plants you wanted.

Frenchie enjoy your day off work. Sounds like a very good Saturday plan.

Enjoy the day lann.

I want a day off too. The hardest part of the paint project is taping the line straight again. I will get ds to help. No ladder work. 2 coats should be easy. Between that. Some qt. Maybe finish my blanket. 5 rows left. And general tidying. Plus I will choose when to go check on the parents.

Dad has a bit of freedom now. He can drive again as of yesterday. Of course he went for coffee time yesterday morning right away. The energy just takes time to come back. But now he should be able to run for what he wants in town on his own by juggling it in like he did before. So that should be easier.

Priority list

Proper qt Maybe some journal time
Basic routines
Kitchen clean
Tape paint line
2 coats navy blue
Work on crochet
Visit parents do they need anything

Today's tada list

Soak in tub instead of shower
Some qt
Find laundry start a load
Tidy laundry room and master bedroom some

Empty and reload dw
Finish tidying kitchen all the way
