Sops in Wine is a cider apple, also known as:: Bell's Favorite, Bell’s Early, Bennington, Dodge's Early Red, Early Washington, Hominy, Sapson, Sapsonvine, Shropshire Vine, Sops of Wine, Sops on Wine, Warden's Pie Apple, Washington.
It is believed to have originated in Britain in the early 1600s. Earliest documentation of this apple appears to be by John Parkinson in his "Paradisi in Sole" (published in 1629) in which he stated "Sops in wine is so named both of the pleasantnesse of the fruit, and beautie of the apple." In 1758 by Johann Knoop listed it as the "Rode Wyn Appel." It was also listed by British pomologist, Robert Hogg in his "The Apple and Pear as Vintage Fruits" (published in 1886) with the comment "It is considered a good culinary and cider fruit." American pomologist S.A. Beach "The Apple of New York" (published in 1905) also makes mention of it, describing it as "A very ancient English culinary and cider apple." There seems to be no record of its parentage.
Sops in Wine is a medium to large sized apple, tending to conical in shape and vaguely angular. The skin base colour is green yellow washed with rich red or maroon wash and striped with lighter red. The smooth, glossy skin usually develops a pale bloom when it ripens. The stem is short and set in a deep cavity. The calyx is closed and set in a shallow basin. The yellow flesh is often stained pink. The name Sops of Wine and its derivations stem from the appearance of the apple when it is cut open, revealing reddish/pink spots which look like drops of wine that have fallen on it. The flesh is tender and somewhat dry, but very sweet and aromatic, so this apple is well suited for use in baking and cider.

* * * Good Morning! * * *
Kittykatt, thanks for the start ! I read with interest the progress of your party project. I hope it is as sucessful as the last time.
Sunny Saturday so far. DS9 has athletics practice around 10, we have a grocery order to pick up - there were fewer time slots available this week, due to the 1st of May not being a worked day, and Saturdays are not the best, but we will manage. Probably a library trip with DS6. Some gardening if the pollen isn't too severe (MrNG and I have allergic rhinitis at this time of year). Maybe some cooking. And family movie night. We enjoyed
Soul last time, no idea what we will watch tonight.
TODO
have tea, feed us all
get DS9 ready for sports
round up the library books and DVDs

Good morning, FFB! Thank you for your good wishes - the party is still three weeks away, but DF CW and I need to plan so we don't have too much of a last minute rush. I hope you have a lovely day and enjoy the sun. Pollen is a problem this time of year, isn't it? And, apparently, the levels are especially hight this year (maybe due to the weather being so warm earlier than usual? IDK).
Laura, Royal Canin is a good brand (it's the one Freddie has), so it should sort out Stella's problem if she stays on it - so long as she will eat it! It's is supposed to be very palatable, but, as we know, cats will be cats! Is she able to eat on her own somewhere quiet? Some cats get distracted when there are others around . Don't worry if she won't eat the wet food, it was just a thought. Some cats won't eat it for some reason (like Jude!) Of course, in an ideal world she would eat both the wet and the dry, as it's easier to ensure she stays well hydrated that way, but the important thing is that she eats!
Hills Science Diet also do urinary care diet foods (your vet should be able to advise on which one) which she might prefer, although they do have a reputation for being higher in fat, and maybe not so palatable.
Gma, you have a busy day ahead today -It hope it all goes smoothly.
Sorry about the bad day at work, Dogged, but glad you were able to chat with a friend.
Today, DH has men's breakfast, then he is going onto his family reunion. I need to get the party invitations printed and if possible delivered . Other jobs - I've decluttered some shoes, so I need to walk that bag over to the charity bank today. I also need to bag up that stewed apple now it's cooled, label and freeze And I didn't PA laundry yesterday evening, so that's another job for today!
I also think Dnextdoorneighbour D is planning a big family party either today or tomorrow - she has set her patio furniture up, with a big TV and BBQ under the gazebo, the hot tub is all set up on the patio, and everyone was carrying crates of beer yesterday, so I think it would be a good idea to spend time in my back garden early today, while it's still quiet!!

Today has turned out hot again, so I'm having my lunch sitting in my front garden in the shade. I've done the party invitations, and we've already had some acceptances.

Freddie has been out and I've done the bins. My parcel is wrapped ready for return, and I e had a chat with both Dnextdoorneighbour C and DF CW.
I need to run the hoover round next and start on lunch prep for tomorrow. I want to get all this done before the sun moves round to the kitchen. My plan is to go for a walk once it's cooled down a bit, and also do some more in the garden .

Sounds like a nice day, FFB, with some errands, some family time, some cooking. Will MrNG help with the cooking?
WTG with the invitations, Kitty! I'd like to come to your party! LOL! Is your neighbor's party noisy yet? Or maybe that is happening this evening. It sounds like you're not joining dh at his family reunion.
Last night after the dinner party, I read a short book cover to cover! J had lent it to me. I'm trying to get back into reading, and so I was both pleased - but also mortified bc I couldn't stop myself and so I went to bed late.
I need to balance it out.
I got up late so didn't do the 5K. It's going to be hard now that they've moved it to 8 a.m.
Now, I need to rush to go see Mom before lunch. I'll head out in about 45 minutes.
Today, I have 4 main goals:
1. Visit Mom
2. Jog 5K (I can bump this to tomorrow but it would be nice to get it in today.)
3. Finish payroll GGT project.
4. CG1 @ 5-9-ish - I'm bringing pizza for everyone, so I'll need to order that. I also can't be late per my usual habit.
Other things that would be good to do:
1. Mom's change of address cards.
Next:
- back exercises
- s2s and self care
- visit Mom
Later:
- some qt
- make the bed
- reclaim kitchen
- jog
- lunch
- payroll: finish GGT
- payroll: update gradelink week 2
- payroll: update exam record
- change of address cards?
- update goodreads
- fold and p/a lol sitting in dryer
- order pizza for 17?
- 5-9-ish CG1
- duo
- update health apps
TaDas!
- up; weighed self - down from yesterday but still very high
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website (gray, 40s and 50s today)

I will clean her boxes today and watch her pattern see how she is. I missed calling the vet yesterday but maybe she will come around yet.
Sounds like a good day all around. Saturday morning 8 am time is definitely early helian.
