Seven-layer salad is an American dish that includes a colourful combination of seven layers of ingredients: iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, sweet peas, hard-boiled eggs, sharp cheddar cheese, and bacon pieces.The salad is topped with a mayonnaise-based dressing and sometimes sour cream is added. It is often served in a glass bowl or large pan so the layers can be observed. The dish is often associated with potlucks, picnics, and barbecues, where a large gathering of people takes place and many people need to be fed. There are many variants of the seven-layer salad and it can be made with additional (or sometimes fewer) layers, making it (for example) an eight-layer salad instead.

Although there are many variations, the traditional seven-layer salad has remained the same for decades. The dish may have originated in the South and was called the "seven-layer pea salad" for its main layers of peas.

I don't know if it's any help when calculating Tutsi's fluid intake, but the average volume of one cat lap when drinking is 0.1 ml. (I don't know if dogs drink differently from cats? Do dogs "gulp" more?)

FFB, IMHO, cucumber sandwiches are nicest with the addition of cream cheese, but that's not the "traditional" way. I looked up the traditions of our street parties. When WW1 ended, "Peace Parties" were often held in the streets. These were, culinarily speaking, very simple (probably because food was very short) and would comprise, slices of bread and butter (in all probability this was actually bread and margarine!), slices of fruit cake and cups of tea. If any gentlemen were present, they would have been catered for by a brown jug, containing beer, from the local pub. I think the main idea here was to gather together for a social time to celebrate the peace, while of course, remembering all those who wouldn't be coming home.

Helian, that's a lot of responsibility for your DMum, but good she is more alert.

I never made it back yesterday, I went off list and cut Matilda's nails, have her a good brush and her flea control. I did the same for Fred, except I just cut his dew claws (his left one in particular grows long and pointed and if not attended to may start to grow into his paw) and decided to leave the rest for the vet to deal with at the end of the month. He also had a very good brush, accompanied by growling, and his flea control. He doesn't keep himself as nice as the Girls - I don't know if he finds grooming himself painful, or whether he's lazy, or whether it's because he's a boy. Something else to discuss with the vet in the 27th.

I also managed to persuade Dneighbour R (who does lots of building and gardening jobs) that he would like to fix the bracket on our garage gutter. I've tried, and failed. I can clean it easily myself, as it's only single storey, but I can't get the screws to go in on this one bracket, and my go-to of gorilla glue and tape aren't doing the job. I'll pay him, of course, even though he said no, as apparently in it's just a "quick" job. Not sure when he'll do it, as he's busy and it's not urgent, but at least I'm making progress on my list.

I didn't complete any admin jobs (although I did proof read and amend) so that's moved to today , but I did have a very productive and successful time in my garden and made the most of the beautiful weather.

1) The proposed increased use and expansion
of the role of vet nurses -yes their role can and should be increased, and nurses encouraged to specialise and take more courses / qualifications in their areas of interest, but they should not be used as a form of cheap labour.

2)proposed cap on the price of medicines - should be used with caution - it's where many vet practices make much of their profit. If they can't make profit from here, then they'll have to increase the cost of treatment, consults etc. Yes, they should be able to charge a *reasonable* amount to write a prescription so the drugs can be obtained (more cheaply) elsewhere by the customer ( not sure what a "reasonable " amount would be, as Petplan picks up the tab for Fred's meds, so I get them direct from the vet)

3)if the prices of various treatments has to be listed online, then what the price for treatment /procedure actually includes should also be listed eg follow -up consults after a procedure, so customers know they are comparing like with like (give the example of Matilda's teeth where her follow up and pain relief were included, whereas the vet a friend of DF PM goes to doesn't include either).

4)Vets should have freedom to prescribe and treat as they think is best for the animal, and work with the owner's situation and the animal's condition to provide "contextualised care" for the animal, and not unnecessarily constrained or pressurised by "company policy" to offer a set treatment / drugs that may not always be in the animal's best interest. Also, emphasise there needs to be a drive to encourage more people to take out insurance and understand the different types and what they cover. (I think we have a big cultural problem here because we have the NHS for people, which, despite its problems, means that medical treatment is free at the point of use. So we are shielded from the "real" cost of things, so it can understandably come as a big shock).

5)Since the CMA announced its investigation last year, there has been a big increase in abusive behaviour from customers towards staff, leading to a much higher level of anxiety amongst staff, many of whom are young women. (I often witness this when I'm taking an animal for an appointment, picking up meds etc) This needs to be stamped out and made completely unacceptable, as everyone should feel safe when they're at work.

Making some progress. I've sprayed the roses in the front garden, but now need to wait until the sun has moved round before I tackle the back garden. Freddie has enjoyed his walk, and I've reread the 162 (!) page CMA interim report, which will help me make my final draft for my response.

Next, is some housework, and I'll maybe start on prep for lunch tomorrow , before the sun works its way round to the kitchen!

Morning all. I had started typing and stopped part way through and it's gone again. I'll try and recreate.

Kittykat I hope you can get those projects taken care of. Hard to find good help. I take it your dh is more techy than handyman. That's ok.

Gma that's a lot to deal with all at once especially when trying to heal your foot. Poor little dog.

Helian I am so glad your mom is doing so well now.

Now I'm trying to focus my day. I've completed some projects and need to figure out the next step. Spray the flowerbed area. Gonna pick and choose cause there are a few things I want to keep there. Then maybe inside stuff. I wrote it differently first attempt and now rethink. Honestly I should begin with the storage closet cause it is very messy and I have stuff stashed in the craft room that needs to fit the closet. Organizing those rooms is priority. Clean living room.

But first thing first I kinda want to pull out the info from the assessment before ds gets up. That was an adventure of a couple of days. It went very well. I had told ds. We talked extensively when I choose to rebook the appointment. He agreed to do it. If he had refused then I would have put a stop not wasting their time. He agreed. It was a week or so later I got the may date. I asked him again. Told him I rebooked. Then a week or so after I told him when it was. Even casual mention on the weekend. Then Wednesday after school I told him tomorrow... he plain said I don't want to. Asked him in the evening and he got mad and said the first he heard was yesterday. Umm no. I told you. Anyways I got my sister friends to pray. And left it till dh came home. He sat thinking about it and at such he on his own decided to do it and just get it over with. From then it went very well. H came after a toss up that if it was going to be difficult then just have to bring dh so he is more comfortable. He ended up doing very well with h.

Anyway yes he is on the spectrum. The lady was really sweet and I think he responded well. Did what she wanted. There is no surprise in my mind. I knew it. She talked so fast. Lots of questions and I really found out the memories of his childhood were very foggy for me. Then I chatted with my sister after with a big update on mom and dad's very thorough dr appointment. My brain was so fried that that is first on my list. Going through the papers she gave me
A half inch stack. And there will be a report out in a few weeks. Then I can figure out where to begin. Mostly I think there are support groups online and therapy we can join. Funding for the school if needed. And funding for post secondary ed. I don't know what we need. I also have not even used the term autism directly with him yet. I don't know if I will. Maybe one day?

Well that was long. I guess it helps me think too.
