Farfalle (Italian: [farˈfalle]) are a type of pasta. The name is derived from the Italian word farfalle (butterflies). In the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, farfalle are known as strichetti (a local word for 'bow ties'). A larger variation of farfalle is known as farfalloni, while the miniature version is called farfalline. Farfalle date back to the 16th century in the Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna regions of Italy.

Farfalle come in several sizes, but they all have a distinctive "bow tie" shape. Usually, the farfalle are formed from a rectangle or oval of pasta, with two of the sides trimmed to a ruffled edge and the center pinched together to make the unusual shape of the pasta. A ridged version of the pasta is known as farfalle rigate.

In addition to plain and whole-wheat varieties, colours are added by mixing certain ingredients into the dough, which also affects the flavor (as with any pasta). For example, beetroot can be used for red, spinach for green and cuttlefish ink for black. Green, white, and red varieties are often sold together in a mix that recalls the colors of the flag of Italy.

Hi, trissie. Thank you for starting us off. I haven't had bow ties, in a while, but might look for them the next time that I am buying pasta.

I have run the dw, so I'm going to take out the dishes to dry in the racks overnight and put the dw away. I'm back at work tomorrow, so I probably won't see you all until Monday, when I start my coveted 3-day weekend. Have a good weekend, all.

Happy Friday!

Farfalle and fusilli (and penne) are generally my three kinds of past to always have on hand, as pasta may not be the heathiest food out there, but it's quick and kids like it and well, we do need a dinner every night!

Had a lot of fun meeting my friend last night. She's very busy - two small kids, a management job in finance, and her husband is an obstetrician in a hospital 3 hours from where they live (so he doesn't even come home every night and usually does a stretch of several days away), so if we're lucky, we get to go out once a year. But it's always as if we met last week!
Working from home and the house is a wreck and the kids are leaving for their scout trip this afternoon and DH is driving from work to his hometown to meet his sister at the hospital where DFIL is and then to see his mom who's totally out of it, so it's gonna be just me for everything. He is coming home tonight, though, and we want to go to the movies (and he needs a lot of extra underwear for his trip! we generally don't have too much of anything, because I run a load pretty much daily, but he won't be doing that during his trip, though I think they did use the laundromat two or three times during his last long trip).

I did an hour overtime, so I feel confident not starting at 8:00 today, and instead will do a luxurious 1:30 before I get started on work.

Well hello there, Bama and Dogged, and off to bed with the both of you! :-)

Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for starting us off. I don't think I've ever had how toe pasta! I know the Italians match their pasta to the sauce - I read they would use usually tagliatelle for Bolognese sauce, as being wider it "sticks" to the sauce better. ( I just tend to use what I grab first, although I no longer feel guilty about using dried pasta, when I read that Italians usually use dried pasta too!). I'm glad you had a good catch up with your friend. Sorry about all the difficulties in DH's family, but fingers crossed you get you movie night together. For underwear, I would normally suggest M&S, but with the fallout from their recent cyber attack , stock levels can be ... unreliable ATM. Are the DKids away for the whole weekend? If so, I'm sure you'll make the very best use of the time to yourself, include catching up on sleep!

And talking of sleep, Sleep well, Bama and Dogged!

I'm not sure what's happening today yet, other than I have the osteopath this afternoon. I also have some items to drop off at the library 's beauty bank, so I can do that at the same time. And I would like to do some more in my garden,- the lawn needs edging next to the path, so I may as well cut it at the same time - and I need to feed my pots. And, my house is calling to me. Now DH is home, it quickly gets messy again!

Dlittledog is still with us, not eating enough to maintain her weight, and certainly not enough to gain anything, but she is hanging on. her eyes are bright, but she is weak. I did get her to eat today by putting the food into her mouth. Tender roast beef + broth, put into the chopster, so it's kind of the consistency of prechewed, but not quite pureed. 5x for eye medicine, each set is 30-45 minutes. Yes. she takes a lot of time. If she survives I can say yay and take credit. If she doesn't, I can feel good that no one could have done more for her.
I also took her to see mother this evening. That was another 3 hours, including driging time.
And since my foot is better, I could take dfBS to an appointment again, with her oxygen.
Morning was spent learning about how the city is going to totally disrupt mother's front and side yards to put in a sidewalk. but i argued with city council as much as I could to stip it, as there is another sidewalk across the street - from the side where the children will be comin g from..... that crosses no traffid, and the sidewalk on mother's side will cross a street, and both an entrance and exit for a busy parking lot at the school... Apparently since the plan was made before I knew about it, and state and government funds are involved, they cannot change the plan.... nor will they listen to reason...
I went to food coop and got a sandwich and soup for supper, because I had no time to cook anything before going to see mother.

I have to wak up early enough to get started on ddog's eye medicines, but then I can take a shower, wash my hair, and get to mother's care center to work with physical therapy on transfers between wheelchair and car.

And I need to start planning what I need FOR ME for going to the cabin for her birthday. AND what I need to pack for her.

oh, and even adding this site to my google contacts ahsn't kept it from beign sent to spam. Fortunately, I know where to look :D

Gma, you are certainly very busy as always! No one could do more than you for DDog, with your time, skill and love.

I'm not surprised you're very upset about your DMum's garden. All I can recommend is that you take lots of photos, so you have proof of how the garden looks now, which can be used if necessary, as a "weapon" to ensure the reinstatement is done properly and to your satisfaction. I don't know about the quality of workmen where you are, all I can say from experience is that ours are variable. Some are excellent, and their work is to a high standard, and they leave everything clean, tidy and as they found it, others ... less so. I realise this is yet another task for you to undertake, but I think it's worth doing, as it will almost certainly save you hassle and stress in the long run - pictures with the date they are taken are PROOF of how something looks.

The sun is shining, and I need to get up and moving! :D

On a whim, I put a second load in the dw and started it again. The chances of my being caught with it are very low, as the apartment is good about giving 24 hour notice before entering, and I've proven to myself that it is working properly with the first load that I ran, so no harm in going to sleep while it is running.

I had bought some rather beaten up looking pansies from the discount grocery store when I did my big grocery a week or two ago. I find that I do better with flowers from the grocery store, because if they can survive the neglect they experience there, they can survive me. The one time I bought a flowering plant from a ritzy flower shop it dropped dead on me so they replaced it and that one dropped dead on me and at some point I was just too embarrassed to tell them that I had killed another one. Anyway, I think that I have discovered why pansies don't usually thrive with me. They need a LOT of water. I had no idea that they are so much thirstier than, begonias for instance. I've been topping up this planter daily and it just slurps it up and it still looks thirsty. Tonight I finally filled the jug that I use to fill the dw's tank and gave everybody all of the water that they wanted and it made me realize that in the past my pansies were probably dying of thirst. On the bright side, they look so much happier now than they did when I brought them home from the store that my theory is holding.

Thanks, Bama. Your pasta dish sounds good.

I'm glad that you had a chance to get together with your df and catch up on things. I keep hearing on the radio how hard it is for adults to make new friends, partly because people with children are so busy. So I'm glad that you were able to find some time to spend with your df, and that she was able to find the time too.
This sounds like it will be a hard trip for your dh, and hard for you at home too. Hugs to you all.

It sounds like you have a fun day in the garden ahead of you, kittykatt. Enjoy!

Gma, you are certainly doing all that can be done for dlittledog. Boo hiss boo at the city. You didn't need that added to your To Do list!

And yes I will get to bed at some point, but I spent a lot of my day napping, so I'm not desperately short of sleep.

Friday
Watered plants
Filled/started dw X 2
Emptied dw to the drying racks X 2
Put away dry laundry
Spread the next lot of tshirt around the apartment to finish drying
Put away/Folded dry laundry

I am leaning toward running the dw one more time.
