The Smiths were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982, composed of Morrissey (vocals), Johnny Marr (guitar), Andy Rourke (bass) and Mike Joyce (drums). Morrissey and Marr formed the band's songwriting partnership. The Smiths are regarded as one of the most important acts to emerge from 1980s British independent music.

The Smiths signed to the independent label Rough Trade Records in 1983 and released their debut album, The Smiths, in 1984. Their focus on a guitar, bass and drum sound, fusing 1960s rock and post-punk, was a rejection of the synth-pop sound predominant at the time. Several Smiths singles reached the top 20 of the UK singles chart, and all their studio albums reached the top five of the UK Albums Chart, including the number-one album Meat Is Murder (1985). The band achieved mainstream success in Europe with The Queen Is Dead (1986) and Strangeways, Here We Come (1987), which both entered the top 20 of the European Albums Chart.[6] In 1986, the band briefly became a five-piece with the addition of guitarist Craig Gannon.

Internal tensions led to the Smiths' breakup in 1987, followed by public lawsuits over royalties. The members each said that the band would never reunite and refused all offers to do so. Rourke died in 2023.

So... The Smiths are probably not as popular as the other bands/singers so far, but I actually discovered them while watching a John Lewis Christmas advert back in 2011 and it's been a love affair since

Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for starting us off . Interestingly, considering the Smiths formed when I was definitely an irritating "angst ridden" teenager, and one would have thought their songs would appeal, I was never much a fan, much preferring bands like Madness, the Police, and even Wham (yes, I know, there's no accounting for teenage tastes! )

Dogged, I looked up McCain chips, and over here at least, they are grown and manufactured in the UK. I usually buy Waitrose 's own, as they are a fraction of the price (although I do sometimes get their "Gastro" chips if we are having something special like steak.

Just a quick CI as I need to get moving today - it going to be a full day.

Good morning ladies,

Today is my last day of class, tomorrow is a work day and celebration. I will be retired. I am feeling really wierd.

I have so much to do to get my room ready. They are dismantling it. It makes me sad.

I have a long list to accomplish today.

I have to wash loads of grad robes, usually our custodian helps but she got fired due to downsizing so doing it solo this year.

I need to take down my math wall and transfer it to new teacher.

I am packing all my headphones.

I have 2 closets to totally clean out.

Box up things to give to my son for his new classroom

Box up things I am donating to teacher's warehouse, our free teacher supply store.

Clean out desk

Clean out filing cabinets.

Box up what I need to teach in the fall and take home.

Save files off my computer on a data stick.

Hubby is taking off tomorrow to help me and we have a celebration at noon. I end the last day with a massage at 5 tomorrow.

I only get my assistant today for a few hours as she is limited to 24 hours this week and we found that out late yesterday.

Our school system is being screwed for funding by our government, they fired 61 support people yesterday across our district. I want to see that list. They are not hiring externally for teachers. I worry about Cameron getting a job next year when he graduates in October.

I feel anxious and wierd and not ready to do this.

I had no idea that McCain had gone international, kittykatt. But it's good to hear that they are using UK potatoes for their products in the UK. Always good to keep your neighbors in business Have a good day.

Done with work for the day. As I had to drive DS to train station before 7am, I figured I might just as well get the groceries out of the way, so that's done. Mopped living room and hallways during my work breaks, but there's still lots left before I can consider this house "clean"! The new tires for DH's car should arrive late this afternoon, so not much I could do about it today, but it will be on my list tomorrow. I have till almost 6pm, when I need to bring DBD from her scout session (another mom is doing the drive there), and I gotta use it wisely!
