The Scaffold are a comedy, poetry and music trio from Liverpool, England, consisting of musical performer Mike McGear (real name Peter Michael McCartney, the brother of Paul McCartney), poet Roger McGough and comic entertainer John Gorman. Since initially disbanding in 1977, the group have occasionally re-formed for performances and projects.

The members of the Scaffold were originally part of a performing revue group known as The Liverpool One Fat Lady All Electric Show. ("One Fat Lady" is the bingo term for 8 and the performers mostly lived in the Liverpool 8 district.) McGough's fellow Liverpool poet Adrian Henri was also a founding member of this early configuration.

Working almost exclusively as a trio under the name The Scaffold from 1964, Gorman, McGear and McGough performed a mixture of comic songs, comedy sketches and the poetry of McGough (as evidenced on their 1968 live album), and they released a number of singles and albums on Parlophone and EMI between 1966 and 1971, with several more on Island, Warner Bros. and Bronze thereafter.

They are perhaps most notable for their successful singles "Thank U Very Much" (1967) and the UK number 1 "Lily the Pink" (1968), which is a modernisation of an older folk song titled "The Ballad of Lydia Pinkham". "Lily the Pink" topped the UK charts in 1968. The group also composed and sang the theme tune to the popular BBC TV comedy The Liver Birds, which aired from 1969–1978.

The group's more musical endeavours were usually augmented with contributions by session musicians. Elton John, Jack Bruce and Graham Nash were among the session musicians who performed on The Scaffold's early records. Tim Rice, who was at that time an assistant to their producer Norrie Paramor, also contributed backing vocals to some of their material. Additionally, although not officially credited as a permanent member of the group during its heyday, guitarist Andy Roberts was a frequent musical collaborator from as far back as 1962, acting as musical director and arranger in a live setting throughout their career and playing on a large number of their releases.

CL, yes BIL was staying this weekend (He left early this morning, so he now becomes DBIL again! ) I'm sure you'll enjoy retirement, and you'll quickly find your new routine.

Do you freeze the fresh peas once you've podded them, L.Ann, or eat them as they are? (I'm very fond of fresh peas eaten straight from the pod, but it's very hard to find them really fresh and sweet over here).

FFB, I hope you had a lovely time with Mr NG and the boys yesterday, to make up for the dreadful time at work. Yelling is certainly unacceptable.

Laura, you've done a lot in your DDads garden -it sounds as though it will be very productive!

Our neighbourhood garden party (which we held in DF CW's garden) was a huge success, and everyone enjoyed themselves. The weather was kind - dry (which was the most important thing!), warm enough to sit outside comfortably, and we even had some sun. And being very informal, it was a good opportunity for the new neighbours to get to know everyone.

Today is going to (hopefully!) be a slow, quiet day. DBIL (he is "D" again now he is now longer staying!) left first thing this morning. We can't get to church as the roads are closed due to some stupid run, so I'm enjoying some extra.time.in bed. My plan is to strip the bed right down and change the mattress and pillow protectors, and give the bed frame a good polish. I did remember.ro take some meat out of the freezer yesterday for lunch, but didn't get any prep done,.so I'll need to do that today. Fortunately, I've decided what I'll be cooking, which is half the battle !

Good morning, lovies!

DH is indeed travelling for work, helia! No way in hell I'd let him travel for four weeks for pleasure and leave me with four kids and two houses to take care of He is getting paid his overtime for the trip - when he did the 5 week trip, it was over 150 hours of billed overtime, which was a really nice boost. He tends to accumulate a lot of overtime hours, because they spend their days recording at various sites or driving to another recording site, and he also does technical consulting/review in the evening and tends to connect to online meetings in the morning, if he can work it in his schedule due to the time difference. We don't fight AFTER the trip, but we do fight BEFORE the trip, because I tend to request that he goes an extra mile to make things easier for me, and he's like "OK, so I will cancel the trip, that will make it all easier" and I'm like "NO, that's not how it works, you expect me to work super hard for four weeks carrying the burden of two people and can't be bothered to do some extras the one weekend before????" But after 22 years together, we know how to push each others buttons and how to reset them!
lauralind, it sounds like a good idea for DS and DDIL to live in the fifth wheeler for a while - it's a really good time now, as the baby does not need much space yet, and the rent payments do suck away a lot of money!
kittykatt, glad the party went well, and enjoy the extra time you have without church!

I am skipping church too. Sleep is more important in my eyes, and I hope God will understand it too! The twins have not notified me yet when they would need to be picked up from the birthday party sleepover, which means they are having a lot of fun, but it's a tad unpractical as I don't know what I can start. I guess the basics are always a good starting point!
Made a huge dent at the carport yesterday. We'll need it for DH's birthday party - either to park the car or as a rain shelter (we did a party there once), and it's this assorted storage most of the time, and there were leaves blown in and trash from the kids (why can't they take candy and ice pop wraps to the bin like normal people?) and of course a lot of DH's assorted mess. But I am almost done, and that was my weekend garden goal - that and oiling the chairs and table set for the master bedroom balcony. It's on the opposite side of the house than the "main garden", so I am a bit sheltered from the noise there

kittykatt, thanks for the start, sorry the race is preventing you from going to church. I'm really glad your party was successful and the weather was cooperative, you had planned it for a while and had worked a lot.

trissie So your DH is gone for four WEEKS ? That's indeed a long time to manage everything on your own... Was is that long the last time ? I can't remember. Good to know you're gettting some financial compensation for all the trouble.

You both seem to have a lot of energy this morning, I'll try and follow along.
My payroll week was exhausting, and ended with the yelling episode, but I think perimenopause-related insomnia is not helping either. A mom I know at the school told me she's had hormone-related insomnia several nights a month for years and it felt like being on a depression. Right now I feel like that. I have a doc appt on the 7th and I hope my doc will replace my current hormonal pill with another one, one with estrogen in it.
MrNG tells me several times a day that my boss and my boss's boss are acting illegally and he wants me to sort of fight back (write "response" email, and such). I don't have much energy right now, so talking with him isn't helping.
I want to be busy and take time with my kids and put negative thoughts away.

Frenchie, it was around 5 weeks last time - this time it' not even full four weeks (well like three weeks and five days, because he left on Wednesday at 4am and will be coming on a Sunday sometimes afternoon, I think - they are leaving the US on Saturday, but with the time difference and the layoffs, it's usually around 24 hours of your watch-time). Marry a programmer, they said, he'll be home all the time, they said! Bull***t, I say
Sorry about the insomnia. Maybe it would be worth researching very small doses of antidepressants? Meds like Trittico "repair" the sleep patterns - I was on it during the worst of DBD's night wake-ups (she'd be up every single night for two hours between 1 and 4 am, for a year! My sleep patterns were all over the place and I kept waking up and not being able to fall asleep and with the medication, the waking up was actually limited to her making noises, and falling back asleep once she settled was again possible).

Gotta go pick up the girls, finally!

Good morning, FFB and Trissie!

FFB, possibly I'm very unusual, but as soon as I started on the combined HRT (very low doses of both estrogen and progesterone) , I slept *much* better at night - usually right through the night with maybe one trip to the bathroom. But, if course, I didn't have a huge added stresses of a toxic work environment. One thing I would suggest, is there a union you can join to help with the work situation? Also, I'm sure you're documenting all of these "incidents" as they happen.

Trissie, I'm glad the girls had such a good time at their sleepover. Four kids and two houses on your own for nearly four weeks is definitely a lot! But hopefully all the lovely overtime will provide some compensation.

It's been a nice, slow morning. The bed has been stripped right down and remade. The last LOL is going through the machine right now. I've made some flapjack for us, as I didn't bake yesterday. Lunch is in the oven and is smelling good. I'm hoping to get out in the garden this afternoon - it's a sunny breezy day, and dry!
