Oscar-Claude Monet (14 November 1840 – 5 December 1926) was a French painter and founder of Impressionism painting who is seen as a key precursor to modernism, especially in his attempts to paint nature as he perceived it. During his long career, he was the most consistent and prolific practitioner of Impressionism's philosophy of expressing one's perceptions of nature, especially as applied to plein air (outdoor) landscape painting. The term "Impressionism" is derived from the title of his painting Impression, soleil levant, which was first exhibited in the so-called "exhibition of rejects" of 1874–an exhibition initiated by Monet and like-minded artists as an alternative to the Salon.

Monet was raised in Le Havre, Normandy, and became interested in the outdoors and drawing from an early age. Although his mother, Louise-Justine Aubrée Monet, supported his ambitions to be a painter, his father, Claude-Adolphe, disapproved and wanted him to pursue a career in business. He was very close to his mother, but she died in January 1857 when he was sixteen years old, and he was sent to live with his childless, widowed but wealthy aunt, Marie-Jeanne Lecadre. He went on to study at the Académie Suisse, and under the academic history painter Charles Gleyre, where he was a classmate of Auguste Renoir. His early works include landscapes, seascapes, and portraits, but attracted little attention. A key early influence was Eugène Boudin, who introduced him to the concept of plein air painting. From 1883, Monet lived in Giverny, also in northern France, where he purchased a house and property and began a vast landscaping project, including a water-lily pond.

Monet's ambition to document the French countryside led to a method of painting the same scene many times so as to capture the changing of light and the passing of the seasons. Among the best-known examples are his series of haystacks (1890–1891), paintings of Rouen Cathedral (1892–1894), and the paintings of water lilies in his garden in Giverny, which occupied him for the last 20 years of his life. Frequently exhibited and successful during his lifetime, Monet's fame and popularity soared in the second half of the 20th century when he became one of the world's most famous painters and a source of inspiration for a burgeoning group of artists.

And here is one of the water lily paintings!

Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off and for a beautiful Monet picture - I've always loved his landscapes.

Hoping you can get the banking website to cooperate, Dogged!

I'm enjoying a nice, lazy start to the day, as it's the Whitsun bank holiday (usually called the "late spring bank holiday these days) today. Matilda woke me briefly at just before 5 am, but with a few biscuits (bad for discipline, I know, but otherwise I will be head butted, nibbles and have my hair pulled constantly for the next few hours, and this way I can go straight back to sleep again! What she doesn't know is that this "extra" gets taken out of today's allowance! It's the light mornings that are causing her to wake early, so I'm not concerned) and a cuddle, we both went back to sleep straight away.

The forecast today is for rain, so it should be a good opportunity to work on the house. And hopefully find some time to work on those photos. Progress has stalled with the light evenings as by the time I come in from the garden on Sundays, it's rather too late to start on them!

Ooh, artists! Thanks trissie! I think Monet's work has broad appeal
I have photos I need to work on too, Kitty.

Well, exercise did not happen yesterday. Between church, visiting Mom, finishing payroll tasks, and prepping for dinner, I "ran" - ha ha! Wish I had! -- out of time. However, the Cs were here for a long evening, and it was really nice to chat with them. R looked over all Mom's medical tests and gave me some good questions to ask during her appointment on Wednesday. J11yo showed us videos of her latest swim meets where she placed in the breaststroke, her strong suit.

Today: On the calendar, casual wedding shower at 8:45 a.m. I'll probably meet them at the park at 9 a.m. at this rate; I don't need to get coffee at the coffee shop at 8:45. I'd like to go for a jog and get the grocery shopping done and make progress on my goals below. This evening, I think we're going to the girls' place.

I'm making very slow progress on my weekend goals. :?

Dd26 is now dd27! Today is her birthday.

Morning all! I am treating today like a real holiday! I am typing this from bed and it is almost 10 here. We have no huge plans for today. I want to spend another chunk of time in the shed but I filled the trash can yesterday so I just need to mark what I want to throw away until next week. I had set five items out at the end of the driveway for free and three of them disappeared yesterday. I will try again today and then one I can take to the thrift store and the other one I will just throw away. I also need to get the tiny kitchen floor scrubbed since that will finish the spring round of cleaning.

So, here I am :-)
I survived the work part of the day, and everybody was at their designated places on time, so that's another success. I have a dress for DBD's photoshoot and replacement part for the shower. I also have a headache and I'd love a nap, but it's either a nap now and late to bed again, or power through and go to bed at reasonable time.

L.Ann, enjoy the "holiday"!
helia, it kinda IS that kind of day, but I am a whiskey girl :-) There is a bit of rose wine waiting for me in the fridge for when the kids go to bed, though!
Enjoy the holiday too, kittykatt! How come everybody has it and we don't?

TaDas
- morning madness
- start a load of cleaning rags
- everybody everywhere on time
- day at work
- errands
- pick up DBD

ToDos
- 30 on upstairs cleaning
- morning routine
- midday routine

Good morning, all.

Thank you for the beautiful start to our day, trissie. It's not actually a holiday for me either, just my day off. A photoshoot sounds fun. Is DBD excited for it?

kittykatt, I laughed at Matilda's early morning hi jinks. My db's cat is just the same with him.
I did get into my banking application and completed my FACE finances, thank you.

Happy birthday to DD27, helia. A wedding shower at 8:45 am would have to be casual for me, because I would still be in my pajamas. I hope the other people in the park don't mind, LOL.

WTG on getting the spring cleaning done, L.Ann! Enjoy your holiday.

I am up in good time, and will get Germane walked this morning before the rain starts. It's nice and sunny now.
I didn't have grocery shopping on my list, but the good grocery store has a sale on ground beef, and it's right next to the health food store that was out of local eggs last weeks, so, while I am out driving over to the groomers to set up Germane's next appointment I might as well pick those up.

Monday
Made coffee
Reorganized the unwashed masses into piles to free up counter space
Scrubbed out sink and basin
Washed 2 basinsful of dishes
Put small slow cooker in to soak
Worked on goals
