Laura, we use "till" as well, and sometimes "cash desk", or sometimes, when in an unknown store where the tills aren't clearly signposted, simply ask, "where do I pay for this, please?'
Gma, I'm glad you're having fun at the cabin, and able to meet people and socialise, but sorry they ran out of food. Congratulations for time time you win the prize with your quilt. (BTW, as we've been talking about the English language, "quilt" often means something slightly different over here, and historically more often used as a synonym for the traditional "eiderdown", or more recently (but this has now fallen out of favour) to describe a duvet as a "continental quilt") When I went to a qut exhibition for the first time with my DDeparted DF HE, I had a moment of mental readjustment!
And they were all beautiful, with so much skill and hard work gone into each one. ( Over here , this was traditionally called. "Patchwork quilt" but that term also seems to have fallen out of favour now).
Dogged, that's a lot of pressure on you to get the apartment straight when you're still working such long hours. Maybe you could start with putting away those items you'd rather the inspectors.didnt see? That would give you peace of mind. Then could you take a bin bag and just pick up anything that's obviously rubbish? Don't worry about sorting it, just get it out of the apartment. If you can do another "stash and dash" and get things off the floor that shouldn't be there, then that would help tremendously.
But do try not to worry too much -Im guessing their main purpose is to make sure no one is living in dangerous or insanitary conditions, or growing or making anything they shouldn't be!!!
Today is forecast to be hot (over 30 C) again. So I'll do some housework during the heat of the day, and also do something with my eBay stash. My plan is to pack up the contents of each box as I list it, label it so I know what each box contains, and then take it down to the garage so it's out of the house. I would like to make some progress with this as the boxes are current in a crate cluttering up the kitchen. DH is out today with DBIL, and also working away for the latter half of next week, so it's a good opportunity.
I also need to bake today, but don't need to do anything about lunch, as DH is going to the south Devon railway tomorrow, for an induction course. He's hoping to volunteer either there, or on one of the other restored steam railways when he retires.
As for the garden, the front garden had a good soak last night. I need to try and bring the hose through the house so I can fill up my water butts , and also water those parts of the back garden that are really dry and stressed . It's an Undertaking (especially as the manufacturer 's definition of "leak free joins" differs from mine
) but something that would bring benefits and keep the garden looking good . As I don't want feline "help" with this job, I'll need to pick a time when the cats are all asleep.

so he's sitting reading news on his computer. I managed to sleep till almost 7 somehow. He heard a noise.. little black Coalle managed to bring in a live bird only barely injured he said. He rescued it. Kept it in his hands for a few minutes till it came to it's senses. Let it go outside. Between the huntress cats are my big white fluffy dog poor thing flew off towards the woodshed to Casper who promptly snatched it out of the air. Dh was rather upset as he rescued it. That's why I don't try attracting more birds . Dangerous territory in my yard.
