The Black Swan Cygnus Atratusis is a large bird with black plumage and a red bill, and is a monogamous breeder, with a life span of up to 40 uears. Black Swans hold great symbolic significance in Western Australia, as well as in the town of Dawlish in Devon UK. Known for their captivating beauty, these graceful creatures form lifelong pair bonds. Surprisingly, it is the male Black Swans who often take on the primary role of tending to the nest, spending more time nurturing the 4-8 greenish white eggs than their female counterparts. Both parents share the responsibilities of caring for the precious cygnets, ensuring their safety and well-being.
An intriguing behaviour observed in Black Swans is their unique swimming style. They elegantly glide across the water’s surface, gracefully balancing on just one leg while tucking the other leg above their tail. This peculiar posture serves a practical purpose, allowing the swan to swiftly change direction when needed. Whether evading a potential predator or swiftly seizing an opportunity to capture food, this adaptive swimming technique enables the Black Swan to maneuver with agility and efficiency.
Beyond their enchanting appearance and distinct swimming style, Black Swans have become emblematic of resilience and grace. They exemplify the beauty of committed partnerships and the shared responsibility of nurturing the next generation. By embodying these remarkable qualities, Black Swans inspire us to appreciate the delicate balance of nature and the strength found in unity and shared parental care.

I'm sitting in the churchyard watching a family in of squirrels in the cedar tree. DH has an induction day at the South Devon railway, where he is hoping to volunteer when he is retired, so he has dropped me off at church very early, and driven on down to Buckfastleigh. I'll be walking back home after church and visiting DF E. Fortunately it's a beautiful summer day, and not too hot. Yet.

Back home after a good church service (the new curate preached her first sermon) and a nice visit with DF E. Fortunately, it's "only" 27 C today, so not too hot walking up the hill back home.

Laundry is folded and PA, and I'm now having a little rest on the bed with Matilda for company ... and listening to the sounds in the neighbourhood of everyone else working!

Hi, Peaches!
My lazy afternoon was cut short by DH arriving back home sooner than expected. But, apparently, he had a wonderful time and the induction day included a ride on a restored steam train. So, he's definitely going back!
I've managed to list another lot on eBay. People are already showing interest in the first lot, which is encouraging.

The cats have been fed, and DH reheated the left over jambalaya for our (early) supper. It's cooled down a lot outside, so I'll probably go out in my garden next, just for a little potter.
