Keep your thinking cap ready today!
What is a thinking cap?
noun. a state of mind marked by reflection or concentration. "If we put on our thinking caps, we may come up with the answer."

For sure, I am in a state
of mind this morning. :| And reflection and concentration both are part!
lucylee, I thought of your volleyball text as soon as I read Twins' title - just wanted you to know.

Today the card comes for dniece, so I will put that gift together and get it in the mail. Will take a little bit of crafting to cut small diagonals on the inside of the card and mount the giftcard. Cutting mat and x-act-o knife. Thinking of Twins' and her expertise with papercrafting.

Also today, I want to clean the bathtub and put the inner bathmat through the washing machine.

General declutter and clean will be the den.

We have an odor about our LR fireplace and this is not good. This is a fireplace that could be a working one but never has been. My ddad quit believing in any fire inside the home as soon as central heat happened in the world - this, because of memory of a fire when he was a child and how bad it could have been. This only smells musty, thank goodness, but we need a chimney sweep, I think.

Between this new odor and the continuing problem with the odor that sometimes surprises us from the old furnace beneath the house (underlining of the crawlspace did not change this, lucylee), I feel as though I have a lovely looking living room that is "all dressed up with a dirty neck."
as P and P used to say, or at least odorous, although visually clean.

Chimney sweep - anyone have any experience with this? Mystery - you and I are the ones who are blessed with vintage homes.

Good morning!

I woke up thinking about cutting my hair. During my sleep I was convinced that adding bangs to my hair style seemed like a good idea. Once I woke up and spent some time in front of the mirror this morning, I decided adding bangs was more along the lines of a nightmare than a dream. :)

Hi! High? Whew... it's going to be very hot here today with the humidex going to 44C which is around 118F! The weather forecaster say Friday will be cooler... HAHAHA! 110F sheesh...

If I never post again, it's because I melted. 8-)

This morning I got the compost and recycling out very early and then I burned yet another 4 bags of cardboard and paper garbage. Labels from cans, etc. Good thing I did that first thing when it wasn't windy. Winds will be up to 80 KMH. Tornado warnings on FBook for southern Ontario. I also discovered that there is now a fire burn in effect due to 3 field fires in the past 7 days in local farmer's fields. At least one involved a tractor of some sort. Not a good thing.

Dh wants to take us out for supper tonight.

Okay, quickly posting that HRH is astonished with me, that I didn't realize he's already been trying to get a chimney sweep to come. He has had calls in through home improvement big box stores, etc., and leads from others as well. Only one guy called him back and although promised, has never called us again. So maybe this is some lost art, and nobody wants the work? He is calling ds to ask if anyone in fire dept knows more.

Oh, phone rings just now and I hear HRH giving his usual "Joe's Pool Hall" answer, so I know it's ds, lol.

Kitchen spif is done.

Heard 4 sirens and big honking two times warn like fire truck at an intersection at 7:05 then others in the distance across the river in the next town.
It is concerning.
I've watered in back. Near century mark today here. Dgd surgery day OMM.
Saw the fire chief go home maybe it was a drill.
Not seeing any smoke.

And no, I didn't go to Thinking Cap because Lucylee texted the finance committee last night about dgd's volleyball uniform! :D :D :D Something all of us could have done in a heartbeat, btw.

I was awake at 6:25ish when dh got up to go workout. I've been folding laundry, straightening, getting sheets off the bed into the washer, piddling some, a little of everything. I just s2s-ed - after yesterday I can't go through today w/o shower, even with a workout later.

I did an Instacart order earlier. Dh looked sour about it, but too bad, lol. He also got on the phone to Medicare because his claim at the beach (sting ray puncture) was denied and got that sorted out. Had to have the change records to indicate that Medicare is our primary insurance now, so after he put me on the phone to do the same thing.

I've decided I've done enough on the back porch/patio.

The kitchen island hasn't been clear since Sunday night, when dneighbors who were moving out offered an Nespresso machine to us. Then we took things down when windows were washed. I'm about to get it cleared again.

Dcleaning lady is coming today in preparation for the party this weekend. I'm going to get her to make the bed upstairs and vacuum that bedroom and hallway, and vacuum the screened porch. I never got around to running the roomba out there yesterday. If I need to I can run the roomba between now and Sunday.

Dh is going to ATL tomorrow to pick up friends returning from Europe at the airport so I'll have a block of time without him. I am hoping to go to JJill to return pants, and perhaps purchase something new?

Harriet, while we were on the mountain we had a working wood fireplace and we did have a chimney sweep come at least once. I don't recall how we found him, tho.

Nancy, here we can check online for active 911 calls. Sometimes we are curious too - we live near a fire station and look down on a major road so we are often aware of calls.

Please don't melt Cathy, I'd be staying in and not cooking for sure. We sometimes do the tray of cold cut meats, cheese, some veggies and hummus and/or fruit, a little of anything cold and easy to try to fulfill some nutrition aims. Going out will be nice too.

Harriet, my dmom's house had that old house odor - Daddy had musty comic books stored and there was cigarette smoke from my brother and it seemed that everything in the house smelled. I'm not sure what all I brought home from there but sometimes in the summer, with higher humidity or heat, I can smell that smell in my garage. It may be the wooden bed. It's faint enough now so I smile instead of cringe.

My thinking cap is looking ahead. I have tomorrow, then Saturday has three (count 'em) social engagements. We'll see Z (our "other" son) and his baby in the a.m., I think ds is coming too. I'm not sure if his wife came for this trip or not. At two p.m. on Saturday we'll see Les Miserables - the last show in our 2024-2025 package of six shows. Might eat something with A and V after - we bought tickets together. And Saturday evening there's a party for Z's father, who turned sixty last month. We'll drop in there. On Sunday we need to go to a going away party at the temple for V's dd, who is leaving for rabbinic school at age 40.

And on Sunday, between 50 and 60 guests for dh's retirement party here, for our friends. His work did one for some clients and another evening that was staff. We delayed this party because so many of our friends were on a trip to Poland. And they're coming back now, hence, dh driving to ATL tomorrow.

I'm mighty wordy today!

This morning I told DH that it would be over 100F between the hours of 11am to 8pm so to plan his outdoor doings before/after those hours. He stayed outside until 11am and then willingly came inside.

Chimney sweep thoughts....maybe reach out to realtor or home inspector companies. They would know who does chimney inspections, repairs, cleaning, etc. for home being sold/bought.

I need to change clothes for workout this afternoon. I'm not much in the mood for it but whatever. It feels like everything today is difficult and taking longer than needed.
