Socialization Saturday PWYC

Google AI summary: "Socialization is extremely important for both individual well-being and the stability of society. It's the process through which individuals learn the norms, values, and behaviors of their culture, shaping their social identity and preparing them for life within a community. Furthermore, social interaction is vital for mental and physical health, fostering a sense of belonging and reducing the risk of isolation and related negative consequences."

It's a very social day for us - a visit from ds and our "other" son, Z, and his family this morning, seeing Broadway show Les Misérables with A and V this afternoon, and a birthday party this evening. I think by the evening event I'll be exhausted but there's more to come tomorrow. I keep reminding myself that I'd probably never leave the house, never mind having so many friends, if it weren't for dh.

What social interactions do you have today? Do they enhance your energy or drain energy/ What are the benefits of your interactions?

This a.m. I'm making a list of last minute stuff I still need to do: do something with lanterns that were on front porch, tuck that electric cord under the couch, things like that. I'll have some time today but not a lot of focus time. I have tomorrow, and dh is getting a massage in the a.m. too, but we're due at temple at 1ish for a going away party for M, daughter of our friends A and V. Staff for our party will arrive around 2:30 for set up then we're off to the races for dh's party from 4 to 7. So I feel exhausted just thinking about it. OTOH, it's nice that I'm not stressed about food, set up, serving, etc. (Reference Rosh Hashana events in two months....)

Right now I need to get in the shower and get myself moving here!

Thank you for starting us, for working us in to such a busy day in your life, Twins'. All best wishes to your dh for a happy party this evening.

blessed, what a good report on yesterday. Maybe the four hours with the helper can be active and varied and result in a nap for your dmother (does she nap each day without difficulties happening?) or at least a quiet day otherwise as you care for her. And, at some point while helper is there, I hope you can have, as Monty Python would say, "and now for something completely different".

Socialization has been something our household has had to be experimenting with limiting, of course. The subject came up with doctor yesterday. She wanted to know if we had a good support system, of course realizing that she herself has limited my interactions, plus not allowing travel, etc. And, of course, before me, HRH had been limited by his doctors, so we've had quite a run of the quiet life.

Socialization - I remember when totally clueless new man in our church was allowed to preach because ... he was a man. I guess. His sermon was on his concept that the scriptures had a lot of examples of hosting, therefore we "should" all host in our homes, that it was so obvious that we were expected to do so. That went over like the lead balloon that it was. It was good for us, though, because in considering how we agreed or disagreed, we were challenged to consider how we did spend our time and what we felt were our own strengths or callings.

Today dd and perhaps the young man may visit. His very dear uncleM and auntK are visiting at his parents' house, about 10 minutes away from us. They live a few states away and don't get to come often. While on the phone with me the other evening, they were debating how they could manage to spend time at both houses and they may actually have to split up to do it. (Newlyweds, lol. Can't wrap their minds around seeing the other one go in a different direction.)

Hi!

Here it is just after 10 a.m. and I haven't lifted a finger other than to cross stitch. I did all the garbage and litter boxes yesterday and I even washed a couple of pots. Dh did a lot of running around yesterday as well. We had planned on going to get some groceries in the Falls this morning but dh is still sleeping. I've been up for almost 4 hours.

I've "Stickied" your "summer prep for the holidays" thread in Arts, Crafts and Needlework, blessed, so that it can nearer the top of topics there. And I've "Unstickied" the May and April threads to allow last year's actual holiday threads to move up for obvious reference to what went right and wrong for us in previous years.

That's fine that you are already hoping to post about the holiday season. Others may want to join, and we can have the usual Holiday thread up later. Sometimes you just feel like Christmas in July, for instance! Everyone looks at the holidays differently. If they delight us in anticipation, that's very cool.

Actually, it might be a "cool" direction for our thoughts in a super-hot week. (we will hit 100 degrees 3 days this week!)

Oh, see, Cathy is cross stitching even now!

Cathy… don’t feel bad, it’s past 10:30 and I’m still in my nightgown.

I have a feeling whatever I was sick with may have been Covid, but it acted much different than the last time I had it. I’m just still feeling exhausted. Yesterday I crashed in the late afternoon and slept a couple of hours and this morning I didn’t wake up until 8:45. Can’t remember the last time that happened.

My friend wanted me to go yo the beach with her again, but I begged off. Don’t have the energy to do that.

I have a few things I want to do around the house… we’ll see how far I get.

Happy birthday to our birthday girls… Hope it’s been a good one.

Twins think of you and all your events this weekend. I’m sure your home will look marvelous for tomorrow. Sure you’re gonna be the hostess with the mostess and your dear husband appreciates all you’ve done to make it a wonderful day for him. He’s a lucky man!

I've been social went to the yd. walk and did my two contacts of the day plus two more!
Yesterday was at the$ place and market.

Some people have the gift of hospitality and some do not. Just saying.

I've walked ddoggo on a shorter walk today her choice. Got sufficient amount of a.m. steps in anyway.
Walked to the corner sale and back before grabbing the truck to haul stuff home.
Got all but one item I wanted it was not such a important thing more decorative.

So happy for furniture dolly to put the small dresser in a good spot for fabrics notions etc. in the
new sewing zone. I'll be working at putting trims ribbons and fabrics away. More I'll put in the holiday area and
post about that in the thread Harriet mentioned.
/skippable....
The person that preaches that should lead by example,
if one does not want to have / host it could be a gathering in a park. IMO
unless it's too blasted hot!

We had been anti social b/c of LH illness and then c-19 & I have not gotten back in to that grove.
Then I tried inviting people and never got any results so there's that.
Getting chew out at church in various small group and interaction has me out of the mood to do that. /
------
Went to the corner again got the one teal painted shovel I forgot.
Watered in back some and in the front is going now.
Filled bird bath.
Update!!!
Drive by several sales did not stop not good enough signs, found a storage unit sale scored a glider
rocker for my living room & they loaded it for me. I was able to unload and get it in the house.
sitting in it now. Old ones at the curb.

I listened to two great yt classes on writing yesterday.

Probably be leaving in an hour for the show. I need to make sure the tickets are in my phone "wallet."

Visit this a.m. was great, ds was here, Z here with his dd, 13 months old. She's walking some and was wanting to look around at things! What fun! They left in time to get her a morning nap. We'll see them this evening too. Found out that baby's belated birthday party here is at same time as our party tomorrow. And all the family is going to at least drop in here...I set date and time first and had told Z first, but his mother, who is not invited, didn't know. (we were besties at one time...long time ago)

I need to change clothes. I've been puttering, doing things I've missed here.

My mother was always very hospitable and ours was the "go to" house for family get togethers. I enjoy the process of planning and getting ready for a party, but this time I'm enjoying the ease of having a caterer. I even have them bringing "upscale" disposables so I don't have to worry about that. I always obsess over what sizes cups, etc. are needed.

What a treat to come to the SHE village and get to socialize with VDSHEFriends this morning.

Most of our socialization just seems to happen without much effort. We had 5 teens here last night. One of the teens bought a new-to-him pickup and wanted us to come outside to ooh-and-aah over it. It is an amazing vehicle and we responded to that fact. He did not seek our opinion about the purchase, so I kept my opinion to myself. He has a baby on the way....he is unemployed (starts a new job on Tuesday)....he lives with his Mom.....and he decided to buy a tricked-out diesel pickup and commit himself to over $700 a month vehicle payments (plus insurance, maintenance, etc).

We stopped and chatted with a couple neighbors this morning on our morning walk. We talked to a couple other lifelong friends when we stopped to get gas. We visited a couple more friends at the hardware store. Stopped at the donut shop and ran into a couple more friends and caught up on their doings. Typical small town living...I remember my DDIL telling me the reason she likes to live in big cities is she can go places without running into people that she knows. She enjoys the freedom of the big city anonymity. You’re not surrounded by people who’ve known you since you were a child and remember every embarrassing thing you’ve ever done.

I am going to try something that feels motivating, inspiring and tickles my fancy. I have selected a cook book from our library shelves and intend to make as many of the recipes from the book as possible. This morning I made pizza dough from scratch and will be using it to make pizza later today.
