A marvel! Another Monday! What makes Monday marvelous for you?

For me, it's a quieter week ahead, chance to regroup, and being with my friends here.

It's marvelous for me because dh's party is done, and it was really lovely. Caterers were expensive but Oh MY they set up, replenished food, picked up plates, drinks, etc. and left the house looking great. There are still things we need to do today but it's not like it usually is. I may have to have help in the future for Rosh Hashana! Poor dh!

Anyway, we have a refrigerator full of leftovers - smoked brisket tiny tacos, grilled chicken skewers, mini sliders, shrimp, zucchini fritters, three desserts, meat and cheese board components... I need to take the desserts to temple for them to use at events.

I'm not sure that I'll do much today except a little getting the house together. I am tired and sore. I was never able to eat much during the party for talking and moving around. The house was hot - we had door to porch open a lot and the house a/c couldn't keep up. An elderly guest ate too much, too fast, apparently, and was ill and helped to his car. (His wife was driving.) Dh and a couple of guests with strong backs helped with him and I tried to act normal and keep things going.

I'm supposed to workout this afternoon at two. Don't know if I'll go or not. Might need a nap. (Last guests - our favorite neighbors - didn't leave until nearly 10 p.m. I love them but it was a long day! I wouldn't have had it any other way, tho.)

Good morning

Twins - I love reading about your DH retirement party. I'm so glad for you that it went so well. VBPOTB!

Blessed - what is your favorite plant growing in the garden this season? I love seeing the daylilies but they only last a couple weeks and then they are finished blooming. I think that is the reason I love zinnias so much because they thrive in our heat and bloom continuously for months.

RR - how is the piano playing going? Do you have certain songs you are focused on?

Nancy - YGG with being so consistent.

I put some water in my rain gauge this morning to make sure it was still working. I was hoping it had a crack that I couldn't see and wasn't holding water. Nope. The rain gauge is working fine. We have only received .2 of rain in July.

We have a couple new neighbors that recently moved near to us. They live on a dead-end street with 7 homes, and I walk that street on my daily walks. We chatted with a couple this morning. The 7 houses have 4 retired military....2 colonels. Two of the houses have medical doctors...one retired and one still practicing. One police officer. Only 2 of the houses have lifelong locals with the other 5 moved here for their jobs. Only one of the houses has children young enough to still be living at home. I have no clue why I took the time to think about this AND write it down.

We will do a trip to the city today. There will only be a few stops. DD14 meets with counselor, DD14 chooses where we will eat out, pharmacy for DH meds, and cold/frozen/fresh foods from Sams.

24 cards completed so far today.

You know, blessed, I agree that I like Mondays a lot more now. I like the start of a new week, there's a new weekly planner page to turn to a sort of clear space, a chance to insist to myself that I'm going to stick to some good healthy habits this week, etc.

Twins', you and dh made the event a cheerful and successful one even though everything didn't go perfectly, of course. Even the caterers were your good thought, to have help. I agree it's nice to hear about it.

"What is your favorite plant growing in the garden?" Mine would be the volunteer impatiens at the back steps or the brave woodland fern still stubbornly staking out its claim where so rudely chopped before! So happy for each of them that they have shade!

Rain - oh, well, happy for Nancy yet sorry about the loud storm disturbing sleep. Hopeful for LadyM that more will come soon. We are in a dry time, but so sloppily soaked a couple weeks ago that we're hanging on to a green look, albeit temporarily.

I need to check on an order of groceries and see when the arrival is expected, make sure everything is okay. We were shocked to find out too late that this store has stopped their ordinary, years-long convenience of allowing you to add to your order for a few hours after making it. So frustrating to think of a couple more things and be kept from getting them. We may quit this store.

Sometime today a new pair of shoes arrives for our green-eyed boy. I hope this size is right - it seems as though his Dad didn't hit such a large size so early, but I do remember that surprise was the norm.

Hi! This will be the last regular Monday morning stitching group for the next 4 weeks. Next Monday is the civic holiday, one lady will be away the following week and the other lady will be away the week after that.

Dh is requesting my assistance in the garden..

I love zinnias too, the colors are so bright and happy and varied. I was so late getting my seeds out this year that I'm just now getting blooms. I try to keep them cut for bouquets so they keep blooming. This year I got more red than usual - it seems like every year there's one color that stands out. Since the seeds are mixed there's no way to predict.

LadyM, right there with you on needing rain. We've had some downpours that only last a few minutes this month but no steady rain to soak in.

Dh went out for lunch, friends came to door to pick him up and brought a retirement gift for him that was left behind yesterday. They invited me to go along but I'm still in pajamas, and not wanting to talk to many people, lol.

Dog is still feeling hungover from the meds I gave her yesterday. I wonder if I need to continue to do that. She was very very mellow and easy and had a good time visiting. I haven't walked her this a.m. - as I said, still in pajamas - and she hasn't asked. I told dh I might just change into fresh pajamas later. While the party wasn't so much work, the socialization still gets me. And the heat yesterday got to me. I'm sipping water with a sprinkling of Liquid IV. Inside the house was a little beyond 80 at one point, high was over 90 and the sun in the west comes into the screened porch.

WTG on step goal, Nancy! Glad you've uncovered DR table! I loved getting stuff off my kitchen counters yesterday, may be more minimal there going forward. Less is more.

Harriet, we're in need of rain also. I see there's a chance of T storms later here, hoping, hoping. We're under a heat advisory too. We've had impatiens at both our previous homes because we've been shady but here there're a no go. I tried red ones by the garage where there is more shade but they've not thrived.

I'm with bw2 on Mondays, they weren't so great when I worked. Sunday nights - the dread of prepping for the week....

Waving to Cathy as she heads to the garden...
