In the classroom, students often use scissors and glue for their projects. Scissors help them cut paper into different shapes, while glue is used to stick the pieces together. These tools are important for art activities and creative work.

Interesting facts about scissors / glue :
The oldest known scissors were made about 3,000 years ago in Egypt.
In some cultures, scissors were once seen as a symbol of luck or protection :
In China, a new pair of scissors was sometimes given as part of a wedding gift, symbolizing cutting away bad luck or past troubles.
In ancient Rome, scissors (or shears) were linked with the Fates (the Parcae), who cut the thread of life. While that sounds serious, it also gave scissors a kind of mystical respect.
The first glues were made in ancient times from natural materials, like tree sap or animal parts.
Modern school glue is usually non-toxic and washable, safe for kids.

The day should be sunny, after days of rain and stormy weather. There was even a mini-tornado event a few dozens km from here, a rare thing in Brittany. Ans we had a slight earthquake this morning, which happens every few months here.
Kids are back at school, DS9 is happy to have a normal teacher again after the mean lady he had last year - she retired, to the relief of many families here. DS7 has in second grade the teacher DS9 had in third grade two years ago, and she's fine too.
Today's plans : DS9 has his first athletics session (track and field practice) of the school year, but same as last year. DS7 isn't yet enrolled in any sports lesson, he has asked for handball : we will drive DS9 at the nearby town (where we lived before) for his lesson and go there for their sports club fair, to meet the handball teacher and maybe enrol DS7. The handball club in our own town is very much competion-oriented, DS9 went there for a few months but we didn't like the coach, it seemed he was always criticizing the kids, when all they wanted was to play and have fun. Hence the idea to go to the other town. Added bonus : we could drive both kids at appro the same hour and approx the same place, every Saturday morning, so it would be a great solution.

Good morning, FFB, and thank you for starting f us off. I hope you had a good week at work,.and can now enjoy your weekend. I'm so glad that both DS9 and DS7 have nice teachers this year . And very good news that the mean teacher has retired (it really did sound as though she was in the wrong job!) What a good idea to take both DSs to somewhere where they can really have fun playing a sport they enjoy(a d of course it makes it more time efficient for you and Mr NG).

I used to enjoy projects involving scissors and glue when I was small - we had something called "school glue" which came in a plastic squeeze bottle with a nozzle on the end. (I think it was a forerunner of today's PVA glue?) In any case, it was very safe and easy to wash off fingers and out of clothes!

I spent almost all of yesterday in the garden, as it turned out far better than the forecast and was dry and sunny all day. Interestingly, Freddie's mobility was much better yesterday (Does the cold and damp affect his joints too? Something else to mention to the vet.) I had a really productive and also fun time, and as well as my usual "weekly" tasks out there, I pruned 3 more roses, repotted 8 of my pots of bulbs and performed an emergency repair on the connection hose on one of the water butts. (I think the pressure of all the water may have caused the aging plastic of the hose /washer to finally snap, as when I started filling watering cans, the water started pouring out of the connector at the top. ) I felt a bit like the little Dutch boy in the story, keeping one hand pressing the connection to form a seal, until I'd filled enough watering cans to cause the water level to drop! Fortunately I had a spare replacement in the garage. It's fitting nice and snuggly, so should be watertight, but it might need a little silicone sealant. I'll see what happens when it rains next! Oh, and I spent a few minutes pruning my climbing rose, but soon had enough of that! I also had a phone call from DF HT about parish Christmas lunch and texts from MQ about the biscuits for church, so I was able to take some time to sit and enjoy my garden (and also make some tentative plans for how many pots of pansies I'll need for the autumn/ winter!)

Today is also supposed to be nice and sunny. DH is going on the coach to Bristol to spend the day with DBro and family (they used to live in Bristol years ago, and DH often visited them there, so presumably they'll be visiting old haunts.) I would like some more time in my garden, and make the most of this lovely sunny weather before the rain returns, but I also need to do something to the house!

Kittykatt, are you potting bulbs for fall or spring? I planted some about a month ago thinking they wouldn’t do anything until spring and they’ve come up, I even have one gladiola budding. They usually bloom earlier in the year here. I’m excited to see it open. I may do a fall vegetable garden, it might be fun to harvest and cook from. I’m glad Freddie is doing well today.

Well, Bama, I dare to digress, tongue twisters do not leave behind sticky stains and cut-out pieces of paper! DBD LOVES crafting, and she's been creating these houses from shoeboxes all summer, with little paper furniture and while it's really lovely and creative, I wish she did it in one place and not all over the house

kittykatt, cold and damp is for the young ones, both human and cats - mature joints prefer warm and sunny!

I'm having a slow Saturday morning. It rained heavily overnight, but now it's just cloudy. DH wants to finish harvesting plums and bring in the apples too - so I foresee a lot of action for the canner this weekend! Yesterday, I bought what I thought was two turkey thighs, but it turned out to be 4 chicken thighs (really big ones), so I cut three of those in half (lower/upper), froze and started a a batch of chicken and veggies broth in the slow cooker overnight. I like to come downstairs to half of my lunch already done!
The big question - do I want to go to the little garden store and pick up some of their lovely vegetables? They grow the plants and flowers that they then sell in their large greenhouses, and then during summer use those greenhouses to grow vegetables from leftover plants, so they have really wonderful tomatoes of all kinds and colors, and mini ballpeppers and other stuff that is super tasty and fresh (because they only sell what they harvest in the morning). I wanted to go there yesterday, but the road was blocked by a car accident (nothing serious, apparently, but enough to block the entire road) so I took a different one and the detour to get to the store would have been too long.

kittykatt, I always love hearing about your garden, it makes me want to work on my garden. Reading about your DH going to Bristol I thought I read they would visit old aunts there... Glad you have your Sunday for yourself.

Bama, what fall vegetables do you have in mind ? We are starting to have some free posts in the garden, but I'm not sure what we can still sow or plant at this time of year. Except leek and potatoes maybe. Have a good sleep, I hope to see you later.

I'm not sure what to start growing at this time of year so I'm curious.As for MrNG's training, well he's registered, starting mid September, now trying to find a place he would be doing some sort of internship, in between classes : he has sent a bunch of email yesterday and will call them at the start of next week. We expect that places like nursing homes or foster places for people with disabilities may need an extra person working for free a few weeks here and there for a year, but nothing is certain. And I hope he can find a place that isn't too far from home, so he could help with taking the children to school and from school.

DS9 had his athletics practice, DS7 is scheduled to have two handball sessions as "test" before being fully enrolled - testing if he likes it or not. Now we're back home and I had the time to buy bread from the bakery in that town that we enjoyed when we lived there. Oh and did I mention that the handball class is 100m away from the public library, where they have a bit more books that our library here ? I really hope DS7 likes the handball class. They both start at 10am, and handball ends at 11 when athletics end at 11.30 : I could drop DS9 10 minutes early at the city stadium then drive DS7 at the handball hall, and collect them one after the other, so perfect.

I have bought some pre-sown salads to put in the little glass house for a bit of extra greens, and spinach is probably a good idea, we do like spinach in a salad bowl.
