Maasai Mara, sometimes also spelt Masai Mara and locally known simply as The Mara, is a large national game reserve in Narok County, Kenya, contiguous with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. It is named in honour of the Maasai people, the ancestral inhabitants of the area, who migrated to the area from the Nile Basin. Their description of the area when looked at from afar: "Mara" means "spotted" in the Maa language because of the short bushy trees which dot the landscape.

Maasai Mara is one of the wildlife conservation and wilderness areas in Africa, with its populations of lions, leopards, cheetahs and African bush elephants. It also hosts the Great Migration, which secured it as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, and as one of the ten Wonders of the World.

The Great Migration usually happens in July depending on weather as the wildebeest moves in large numbers crossing the Mara River from Tanzania.

The Greater Mara ecosystem encompasses areas known as the Maasai Mara National Reserve, the Mara Triangle, several Maasai group ranches, and Maasai Mara conservancies.

Blue wildebeest are the dominant inhabitants of the Maasai Mara. Around July of each year, these animals migrate north from the Serengeti plains in search of fresh pasture, and return to the south around October. The Great Migration is one of the most impressive natural events worldwide. It involves some 1.3 million blue wildebeest, 500000 Thomson's gazelles, 97000 topi, 18000 common elands, and 200000 Grant's zebras.

All members of the "Big Five" – lions, African leopards, African bush elephants, African buffaloes and black rhinoceros – are found all year round.

Thank you for starting us off trissie. We have arrived and are settled in our hotel room. This is a nice surprise: Germane likes her new playpen. She has food, water, and a familiar folded up fleece throw to sleep on, and it is covered in peepads. After eating and drinking, she settled right down and fell asleep. I think it helps that she can hear my audio book playing, and that she is tired out from our trip.

Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off.

So glad you've arrived safely, Dogged, and that Germane is happy and settled. I'm sure you'll have a lovely time with your DBro.

I'm hoping for a more "normal" week! DH goes to the office today, and I really need to tackle my list of mostly admin tasks that are badly behind. I've already done one today - order my prescription. :D Maybe I can do a few more when DH has left for work and before I do anything else? Other than all that, there's my usual tasks around the house and garden (if dry!) :D

◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕

Trissie, thanks for the start and the information about the Maasai park fauna.

Kittykatt, wishing you dry weather and a productive day, if that is your wish.

Doggedly, glad to know you're safe and settled.

Sunny and cold. I left the kids at the schhol gate 8 mins before opening time. On a rainy day I couldn't do that. Not sure if they can walk themselves to school anytime soon.
Some catching up at payroll, otherwise mostly boring morning.

TADAs
Hectic morning rush
Walked kids to school, left them there 8 mns earlier
Almost on time at payroll

TODOs
Payroll day, drive back home 6pm
Get kids from afterschool daycare
Evening routine until kids bedtime
Probably bed early

Good morning, FFB! Does the school have a breakfast club the boys could go to on days when it's raining? Or even every day, if it would mean you could drop them off earlier and not have to worry about being late for your work. (Over here many primary and secondary schools have breakfast clubs, designed for children whose parents have to leave early in the morning for work, and also for those parents who have difficulty affording food for their children. I'm ashamed to say this still happening, even in what is supposed to be a well off country in the 21st century  . No discrimination is made between the two groups, so no child feels stigmatised.) How far is it to walk to school? Are there any main roads they have to cross, or are there plenty of safe pedestrian crossings? It's still early in the term, so I'm sure they'll get more road sense (and stamina!) with practice.

I've achieved some items on my admin list, so that's progress. Into the shower now, and then I'll take a very patient Freddie for his walk.

Thanks for the interesting start, trissie. A friend and I spent a summer on an internship with a missionary who was working with the Maasai in Kenya, not far from Maasai Mara. It was an amazing time; my friend and I learned so much. We lived not in but next to a Maasai village. We went to weekly church services under a local tree, went to their festivals, visited some families with the missionary --> eating Maasai meals and drinking their chai, slept a couple nights in one of their villages. Some of the young men liked to come visit us. The women were all married at a young age, like 13, and they weren't free to visit us, unfortunately. There was one young man in particular who spoke English pretty well, and he became our friend. -- Although, we did get proposals of marriage. Amazing experiences. But we never got to the national park. We did hear the hyena packs in the distance at night, and the village was harassed by a young lion that was raiding their cows or goats.
Glad you arrived safely, Doggedly. Have a nice visit.
Hope you and Freddie had a nice walk, Kitty. Enjoy your day with dh away at work.
That's nice you could walk the boys to school today,FFB. Hoping payroll is more interesting than you're expecting -- in a positive way.

I'm up a little earlier to finish grading. A couple students aren't quite getting what is being asked of them, so I need to think about an activity to try to get at that today - without losing the interest of those students who are getting it. I need to be at payroll to teach 11-1. Dd27 wants to go for a walk with Fable late this afternoon, maybe along the river? I need to get some groceries, and a jog would be really good. And I need to connect with the business manager at the nursing home to make sure we don't pay any more rent and to ask if they'd like the dresser. If not, and I doubt they will, we'll go pick it up tonight. Ideally, I'd also get the thank you card written so I can drop off the chocolates and card for the memory care staff. Dinner: peanut chicken and a TBD veggie.

Next:
- payroll: finish grading midterm tests
- payroll: prep for IW D9
- back exercises

Later:
- s2s and self care
- squeegee and wipe down shower
- make the bed
- reclaim kitchen
- email NH manager with Qs
- 10:45 gather everything and otd
- 11-1 payroll: teach IW D9

- home; lunch
- find/ buy thank you card; write in it
- dress to jog
- jog?
- walk with dd27 and Fable
- WF - odds and ends
- laundry - 1 load w d f pa
- dinner: peanut chicken, rice, roasted veggie
- after dinner clean up
- duolingo
- health apps -- DO THIS
- pick up the dresser from the NH

TaDas!
- up; weighed self
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website -- sunny and high of 82*F.

Morning all. I think I need to get in the shower soon and hope it helps. Probably work will just get me moving. It's going to be another weird week. Tuesday is a holiday. Truth and reconciliation. Meaning dh always has Tuesday off so he gets today off as extra. I work. Ds has school. Tomorrow we are all home. Truck comes today. Meaning hopefully not super late. I will get to be finishing it later in the week again cause tomorrow runs shorter hours and only minimum staff. I wonder if anyone saw my project and finished it. We'll see.

I have to do some basic routines and such this morning. I think I have shopping bags with odds and ends from our excursions still there. Just general tidy up.

Shower
S&s both baths and reboot laundry
Tidy laundry room and master bedroom some

Empty and reload dw
Finish tidying kitchen all the way
Put away some random groceries
Clean cat boxes and take garbage out from everywhere
Sweep everywhere
Finish getting ready for work
School run and work
