Dogged, sometimes we all need a day where we do less, to rest and recuperate.

Helia, I'm sure DS and F will be very grateful that someone kept the house running smoothly while they were otherwise occupied! I know many people (myself included) wouldn't normally want someone else doing things in their kitchen, but this is not a "normal" time, but rather, a momentous occasion , and I think they'll be very grateful that someone else is taking care of the "necessary mundane" and keeping the house going, so they can rest ( especially F) and get to know their new little daughter , and just spend time together as a new family.

I hope you have a lovely time at the cottage Trissie!

I need to get up earlier than usual on a Saturday today, and I'm having coffee with C. She wants to walk over to the community, so I'm hoping the rain stops between now and then! I also want to try and do some housework downstairs before I leave, so I've at least achieved something! Not sure of DH's plans. Originally he was going to be home and sorting out his cupboard in the office , bit he mentioned something yesterday evening about meeting up with his friends.

Happy baby news, helia! Ever since I learned that your screen name is actually the initials of your kids' names, I call them Henry, Linda and Anne, and in my head, baby I is Irene Congratulations to all the family!
Did I catch it correctly that C-section means only two days in hospital in the USA? Here it's minimum 4 days, For me, it was seven and they wanted to do ten (due to my preeclampsia), but by day 7 the twins were ready to have their mom around (the normal maternity ward has both mom and baby in hospital care, but the ICU and attached high risk ward only provides care for the babies, the moms are on their own - and most of the time, they come in from "outside", for the last 3-7 days of hospital care of the preemies to be taught how to handle them)

Frenchie, one of the reasons I am less productive toward the end of the work week is the structure of my week - Monday and Tuesday I usually come straight from work (which can be anytime between 4 and 5:30pm), with the exception of bi-weekly DBD's speech therapy, which happens on one of those two days. Wednesday, DBD and DS have scout session, which means I have to drive DBD (10 minute drive), come home, leave again 45 minutes later (driving DS there), pick up DBD and get back home at 6:15. That just breaks my day. Thursday is grocery day, which means I don't get home before 6pm, and Friday is work from home. And on any given day I only have time till 6:00 when we start homework (and I try to cook dinner while nagging the kids and explaining school work and helping with problems and technical issues), and DH is supposed to be home by 6:30, but in reality on at least 3 evenings per weeks I get a text 6:45 "sorry, running late, be in 15". And then in theory I could do things after dinner, but it's rare that kids are settled and the dailies are done before 9:30, so... yeah, but that's life and it will get better on day, but I don't really foresee missing this!

The original plan was to leave before lunch. Considering it's 11:30 now, I don't really foresee that happening! I didn't get to bed till 1am (dealing with the grapes took way more time than I anticipated - to get clear juice, I need to destem them, wash and juice in the electric juicer, and than do tripple filtering to get rid of the pulp particles, and the filters need to be cleaned often, and after that the entire kitchen is a mess), and since the cottage will be cold and it takes some time to get it all warmed up, we're now considering not leaving till tomorrow morning. But we're not telling the kids yet

trissie thanks for explaining your weekly schedule. Ours isn't that regular yet, and it won't be for a while. Form one week to the next, MrNG has training days that are like "classes", and others as an intern. Last week he was one hour away from home (add 25 minutes of traffic jams) at classes from 9 to 5, this week he is 20 minutes away as an intern, from 8.15 to 5pm. There will be other kinds of week when it's half-classes and half-internship. And a few days when he is 2 hours away
I hope that whenever you decide to leave to the cottage is the best choice for all.

Sunny morning, it won't last. MrNG must have realized I needed some quiet time alone and convinced me to start my to-do list with my need for clothes, so I took two hours and searched for a winter coat, and I've found one I don't dislike, which is more than can be said about most coats I've seen. Also a summer top on sale (suitable for work), and a pair of gray slacks, sort of like jeans, but I think that should go with black tops and orange / copper color tops that I have.
Looking at mirrors a lot makes me think a lot about whether I should dye my hair, there are gray-white streaks on the temples and top. I'm still hesitating because, once you start with hair dye, you have to do keep doing it regularly ever after.

Trissie, that sounds a good idea to go to the cottage tomorrow, as that hopefully means less stress and rushing for you. We escaped most of the effects of the storm - just leaves everywhere- so really just typical autumn weather.

FFB, a winter coat is definitely an essential. It's difficult to establish a routine when schedules are changing all the time. Re the hair colouring issue, that's a very personal decision, but you're right and the "upkeep" is considerable in both time and money, and the wrong colour and root regrowth are be even more aging. (Our skin tones change over time, so what suited us 10 or 20 years ago may no longer be flattering). I think grey hair can look stunning, especially when it's in good condition, and with a flattering cut. Maybe a few high/ low lights might be a good compromise? Skillfully done, they can blend in very naturally , and regrowth is a lot less obvious. ( Disclaimer, I'm a natural blonde, so I've just got a few silver strands xxx which I'm quite happy with).

I'm back from visiting C (today we walked over to the community shop and she stocked up on all the types of junk food she likes, but that her DD is not keen on her eating!) and DH has made yummy bacon sandwiches for lunch.

Morning all. I still can't wrap my head around your busy weeks trissie. I guess I survived that a little when the older kids were younger and in stuff. But back then I was janitorial. Of course I think there was a point that was even more running around. I had a place or sometimes 2 to clean every single day for a time. Plus skating and guitar and scouts for a bit. Ds almost 16 is in sports but he just stays after school atm. Bball I think is 5 so that I have to sort out yet. And only one regular work place. Of course sometimes it feels like mom and dad's is a second job atm.

Kittykat you had a storm close by? Glad you missed most of it. We had a very nasty wind the other day. I think some trees went down but not right here. I'm a true blonde too with those hidden little silvers. There's more of them these days and they are stubborn and stiffer and want to curl the wrong way .

Anyway I wonder what the weather is like today. Honestly I am wonder of wonders feeling like I could tackle something that is a want and not a need today. Unless dad wants something but things are looking up a little over there maybe. He slept the other night from 830 to 430 and was feeling much better. A second night of sleep aid and he might be able to deal with life. Sleep aid for mom so she doesn't disturb him. A world of difference... his mood last night was night and day different. So we'll see.

I could paint my shelving. Plant a few bulbs before the ground is frozen. Start my crochet. And maybe check up on them without the demand? Unless everything flips in the wrong direction.

I think I will start with a soak when dh goes . Basic routines and then see what happens.

Well mom and dad is a full time job for a long time, lauralind! BTW I vote for the crocheting

Definitely leaving tomorrow. I'm gonna go hide in the bedroom with a basket full of ironings (load of linens - oh how I love ironing in the cold weather when it warms my hands! And a good audiobook to go with it I just finished a (Czech) book called "Hebrew women" which casts a different look on the women of Old and New testament and adds a bit of historical perspective of both "then" and "how perspective changed" (like, I had no idea that the Eastern Church has always viewed Mary Magdalene as a virtuous follower of Jesus, not a sinner!) into "things we just know". Also, absolutely loved the very beginning, when in the Adam and Eve story the authors says that "without Eve curiously testing everything that grows around, the whole Bible would end in first chapter" Next up is a crimithriller that I know nothing about, so we shall see.
