Scanning the Horizon Saturday

Homemakers are always on the lookout, watchful for their surroundings and monitoring home, hearth, household.

So much can be headed our way, but all of it doesn't have to be a surprise. What the calendar tells us, what we know from experience with the seasons, maybe a bit of a suspicious nature (smile), can all inform our gaze.

What do you see upcoming this weekend and beyond as you scan your horizon?

It's not you. It's us.

That was the surprising, never-before-seen response page HRH got this morning while having so much trouble getting to internet sites. This was from AT and T, our bundler (is that a word?) of services. It was so new to him he called me to come look at it. The message went on to say they couldn't connect requests right now, or something like that. Meanwhile, back at my desk, I popped right in to check my email, for instance. But in attempting to unsubscribe from a retailer's emails (sporting goods ... .. why me?), couldn't reach the retail site. Eventually, that page did respond and I unsubscribed.

Here in our village, I had a couple failed attempts but not time consuming, and then things were fine and no trouble starting us off this morning. But all this is somewhat sobering. Are there latent difficulties out there, with some recurring problems from the general downtime... ..

We are awaiting a grocery order. After I help put that away I can start a normal day.

Looking toward the horizon, I have appts Wed and Thurs, and
Trick or Treaters will be out and about on Friday, I think? (unless there's some push to move society's "observance" to Saturday. I admit I'm out of the loop.)

This week I foresee a few more baseball games on TV AND when we (Toronto Blue Jays) win the World Series, I also foresee a major temper tantrum on Truth Social. LOL!

Hallowe'en is also in this week's plan for some of us. We don't buy anything to give out as we haven't had a single person come to our door in 10 years of living here.

For me personally, there will be the shared anniversary of both of my parent's deaths on Sunday. Mother in 1967 and father in 2013.

Today there will be a hot chocolate in a few minutes then some stitching and no idea what will be after that. I also need to turn on the washing machine.

Thank you for the gentle reminder, Harriet - I need to update my half of the kitchen wall calendar for November (we have a "his and hers" calendar, where we are supposed to write appointments, engagements etc to avoid clashes, especially with the car. DH often forgets to do this, so I need to set a good example!)

Cathy, we do t get Halloween visitors either, but I know I shall be called to go and admire G13 YO's costume. (She is the DD of my DF CW, who lives opposite).

DH has gone out for a few hours, so I'm deciding between tackling the landing bookcase and sorting out more of my wardrobe - as soon as I get up off this sofa!

d harriet - I love when you remind us that we are homemakers -
it really is a wonderful profession. I sometimes forget to see the joy in my everyday work-it is a blessing: it is my calling.

Every Mom’s Poem (Life is Good)

I’m just a “Mom,”
A Homemaker, you see.
But I’m a working Mother!
Yes, I run Domesti-City.

I cook, I clean, I sew, I watch.
I drive, I teach, and then–
I wash, I iron, I feed the pets…
I do as much as I possibly can.

I take out the trash,
And recycle, of course.
For homework assignments,
I’m usually a source.

I don’t get days off,
My “free-time” seems nil,
Whenever a volunteer’s needed
I hear me saying, “I will.”

My hours are long,
The pay far from perfect.
But I wouldn’t trade any of it,
The benefits are worth it!

And all in all, I know it’s true,
As I plan for each day,
If someone should take the time to ask,
“Life is good!” I’d say.

clean kitchen floor (there is a new house cleaning trend that states that one should do the floor first before anything else - I have to think about that.)
get moms lunch together
cut up veg and fruit
fold laundry - dh put it on the dining table - unfolded.
clean off front pie chest -
pull things for tomorrow (I have the one young man coming over to work).
dd's will stay with mom this morning so I can finish a couple things.
feed birds - empty pools and put away
have bird watering/animal watering stations. heated core
put up stakes for the snow plows
ASK FAMILY AGAIN FOR CHRISTMAS IDEAS
remember nov. 1 pay dh back, pay bills
water 1/2 inch - 1 inch while we don't have snow or rain.
set up charging area for dewalt batteries
dining room table clean off and the little that's left - put away

Okay, this is interesting.

The times in which that has been true for me are when I know I might get on my knees to clean other places - baseboards, underbed, tub, toilet. If I think I'm going to get on my knees at all, I do get really protective of my clothes even if I'm going to use my kneeling pad some. Otherwise, I think top-down makes general sense. I wonder if the trend idea is partially that, having cleaned the floor, you would have a feeling of pride in the rest of the room OR maybe cleaning the floor kind of "paves the way" into each corner... .. and gets you to be more observant of clutter's infiltration.

When little children - mine or grands - might be crawling, I used to clean the floors much more often than I do now, anyway. If the rotation is moving quickly with a big or bustling family, it may not even be evident whether you are cleaning floors first or not, the cycle is so fast, lol.

I'm staying out of the kitchen for a while. HRH is having a fuss or fight with inanimate objects at the moment. They are on their own - I don't need to defend them. They probably started it.

I agree d harriet - top to bottom seems to work well for me as well.
it was an interesting idea - I wonder if the floor always seems the most overwhelming? I think you are right that it is supposed to give a sense of relief/pride to wash the floor first. I don't know. I will try it for a week - just for fun.

When I had the kiddos or cared for children in my home - I too washed the floor a lot.

this made me smile: I can just imagine it.
