Frolic Saturday November 15, 2025

Post by blessedw2 »

"In the Amish community, a frolic is a community work gathering where neighbors come together to help with a large, difficult task, such as raising a barn, harvesting crops, or making quilts. It's a form of mutual aid and support that is joyful and social, despite the hard work involved"

How will you frolic today?

I love that we all work together!

"A large difficult task" Hmmm... I have a lot of assorted "stuff" for cross stitching and knitting in my library. I also have 2 tiny "antique" tables in there that need to be cleared off. There are also at least 4 piles of books that need to be dealt with. Either put away or donated. Now that the cross stitch project is finally done, I can deal with the other stuff that has been OMM every time I sit there and stitch.

Thank you for opening the village this morning. Some days I just can't figure out anything to go with the day.

I also need to deal with 4 orchids that need to be repotted. I have a bag of orchid "stuff" because it isn't dirt. It's whatever it is that is specifically for orchids to grow in. I also need to remove some dead leaves from some other houseplants.

Off I go before dh wakes up.

Good morning

It’s day three of not feeling well, though I don’t have many symptoms. The headache is gone, but I woke up in the night aching like I had the flu, so I took my temperature, fully expecting it to be high. Nope—totally normal. What isn’t normal is me turning into Mrs. Cranky Pants. This morning I overreacted when I discovered the case of Sunny D (24 bottles) had been emptied in the last 36 hours. I told the teens to only drink one a day, figuring 24 bottles would last six days. About five minutes later, I apologized. I honestly don’t care how much Sunny D they drink; I was just caught off guard by it disappearing faster than I expected. I’ve ordered more Sunny D and hopefully put that cranky episode behind us.

I'm up and about here. I was out of the house a little after 7 yesterday and home again by 6:30, albeit pretty worn out. I had a successful trip in finding one significant bit of evidence that I can use and also need to follow up. Also found a very very poor copy of the "White" bible that has eluded me for ages. I can at last see that it existed, kind of, lol.

Dh had dneighbors over for drinks and they all went out to eat not long after I got in. I had late lunch - finishing at 3:45ish before getting into the car to come home, so wasn't hungry. Went to bed early.

I'm still congested today but feeling much better. I hope to do very little today honestly.

LadyM, SunnyD has a lot of sugar, too, doesn't it? I'd make them aware of the sugar content at the very least. I don't know how many teens were involved in emptying it but I'd feel cranky too. They need some water!

I have some frolicking to do today
in the kitchen as I'm...
on a fill the freezer mission!
Cooking up some chicken soup has been started. ;)
Baking bread rolls they are raising now. Yea!
Trying a pumpkin corn bread for ddoggo, it turned out great!
and stuffing casserole in the freezer now. not muffin cup shapes. .
Next get dressed. x
Dishes await... X done!
Rolls with pumpkin & cinnamon taste great!

------

Also in the sewing room as I pin an hopefully do a seam or two on the Cmas vest.
As well as in the leaves that are falling.

Took jars of pumpkin to the freezer down stairs except for what I'll use this weekend.
Waving to all!

Yes to sugar in Sunny D. I just looked it up. It has 11g sugar. Is that alot in a drink? I'm not sure because it isn't something that I drink. I just looked up how much sugar a can of Coke has = 39g. Hum....when comparing the amount of sugar in Sunny D to coke it doesn't look as bad, but neither one of them are considered healthy drinks.
I only buy sunny d at the beginning of winter to get some vit C into the family. There are better ways to accomplish that, but somehow this has become a thing each year here. I don't buy it the rest of the year so apparently it is considered a treat. I didn't mean for that to happen.
Where oh where is the child raising manual when I need it?!!

Breakfast cooked for DH - biscuits, hot link and egg cupcakes. After doing that I made an additional 6 egg cupcakes which most likely will disappear quickly.

I have 4 lb chicken tenders and 1 lb hamburger meat out to make something. My brain is numb and I haven't thought of anything. This might be the day that I teach DD14 how to make meatloaf. hum....I could use 1 lb of the chicken with vegetables in a soup for me and cook the other 3 lbs for the family in butter & BBQ sauce. Potatoes in the instant pot will be the carbs for the family. Decision made.

Glad your day is moving along, LadyM. I think I remember SunnyD being in a smaller bottle than a can of soda? I can see getting the Vitamin C into your folks too with the shorter days. I'm glad you're feeling better, too. There's been stuff going around. Dneighbor dh had a cold this week too, and I saw that someone had posted online there's a lot of the flu too. I had both the COVID and flu vaccinations last month.

Lots going on in those kitchens today, Nancy's cookin' too! Smells good!

Cathy, my orchid hasn't done well since I repotted it. The new "potting medium" isn't holding moisture in. Any recommendations? I can't see to keep them alive.

Thank you for the frolicking start this morning, bw2. I do remember hearing of the Amish frolic tradition. I made myself my healthy brunch and the kitchen is back together again. One day of me not touching it and it's gone to hell in a handbasket. I'm also running the dishwasher.

Dh went to the river. A (of A and V) is there, V is away today with her dd. I think I might take a nap. Dh wants to go out for dinner but I'm not sure I want to.

I talked to dcousin yesterday, surgery ended up being late into early evening yesterday. She was home last night and a dd spent the night with her. Heard from her ds that she's getting around today with a cane and doing well. We talked about Thanksgiving at his house too - he admitted he had hated to make plans/think about it until her surgery was past.
