Forget-me-not (botanical name: myosotis) is a spring flower which appears in frothy blue clouds at the front of borders and at the edges of paths. There are annual, biennial and short-lived perennial forget-me-nots, but the most commonly grown variety, Myosotis sylvatica, is a short-lived perennial usually grown as a biennial. It complements other spring flowers, making a great backdrop for taller tulips or wallflowers, and naturalises easily for wilder-style plantings. It can also look great in a window box or container.

Several stories are attributed to how forget-me-nots got their name. They have been a symbol of love since the Middle Ages, and supposedly, if you wore one, you would not be forgotten by your loved one. There is also a German legend where a young knight is gathering flowers for his beloved on a river bank but falls in. As he is swept away, he throws the flowers to her and calls out, ‘Forget me not'. In the UK, they are used by health organizations, like the Alzheimer's Society, to represent dementia awareness.

Forget-me-nots are easy to grow from seed and can be sown direct in May or June. The plants thrive in a sunny or partially shaded spot and will flower in their second year.

The best place to grow forget-me-nots is in moist but well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. They look good planted alongside tulips or with other plants that grow well in partial shade, such as hostas. They can be left to self-seed, or seed can be sown in the summer for flowers the following year.

Today, DH is going to a nearby beer festival with some friends. To hear them talking on the phone, planning it is like a military operation, especially regarding the position of the table they plan to sit round, (Within easy reach of both the bar and the facilities !) and the snacks they are planning to bring (pickled eggs and salt and vinegar crisps).

I have a free Friday, so I'm planning to stay home. If the weather is kind,.I would like to go for a walk and do something in my garden. Also on the list,.I really.need to cut Matilda's and Jude's nails,.and find the list I wrote last night. . Handyman MJ will be coming some time on Wednesday to hopefully .fix my wobbly filing cabinet (he's planned to come in the afternoon,.but if the weather is rubbish he'll come in the morning,.as his morning.job is an outdoor one - he'll let me know on the day..As my filing.is in the he spare room / office,.this job really needs to be done on a day when DH goes to the office).

I need to find the list I wrote last night, and add it to my to do list for today.

I've been MIA this week. Tuesday, I attended a cooking course (got a voucher on Christmas 2024, it was good for a year, never got around to claim it, but luckily I was able to book a January date while it was still valid in December) - now I know much more about Indian cooking, though I don't think I'll be making chicken vindaloo at home any time soon
Wednesday and Thursday were the usual business, and now it's finally Friday! Lots on my mind and lots on my list, but at least we have a weekend at home, so I will make progress.

Good to "see" you, Trissie -the cooking course sounded fun! I hope there was nothing seriously wrong with DH's car.

DH is taking the day off work, and going with his friends (some of whom are retired, others are also taking the day off) and also DBIL (who is still "D" as he is coming down by train, and also going back home by train later today!).

So far we have a dry day, but from what I can see looking out the window (it's still not completely light yet:roll: ) the patio still looks quite damp, probably from yesterday's rain. So I'll need to delay any gardening for a while. There's still plenty to keep me occupied indoors!

DH has left for his beer festival. I've emailed the vet with the meds and prescription food order for Freddie and Matilda, and also wrestled with recalcitrant discounts on websites, to get the best deal for the rest of the cat food, and their non- prescription supplements.

My reward is some time in my garden. We currently have sun and blue skies, but the forecast is is for rain later,.so I don't want to delay further.

There's also been a very strange post on the Fun and Games board that appears just to be a long Advert? (It's all in German, which I don't read very well - I'm sure Trissie with her vastly superior language skills would understand it.) I've reported it, as it doesn't seem to comply with the guidelines here. (Apologies if I've been too harsh!)

Forget-me-nots are one of my favourites:)

trissie cooking course sounds like a lot of fun. Hopefully, you got some ideas that you can incorporate into your daily cooking.

I woke up early - and then tried to relax a little more. My dpup had a different idea for me.

Today:
it's another cold day. Hopefully, no more white stuff. I will need to see how much more I can clear in front. (Hoping the city did clear the sidewalk..)
