Re: Fatima Whitbread Friday
Born in London to Cypriot parents, Fatima Whitbread endured a disturbed childhood after being abandoned by her mother as a baby and spent her first 14 years in a variety of care homes.
She took up the javelin at the age of 11 and was eventually adopted by Margaret Whitbread, a former javelin thrower turned national javelin coach, and her husband. Whitbread became European Junior Champion in 1979 and was chosen for the Moscow Olympics whilst still a teenager. After winning a bronze medal at the 1982 Commonwealth Games she broke through into the top echelon of throwers at the 1983 World Championships. She led the competition until the very last throw from home favourite Tiina Lillak.
She had a famous, and occasionally bitter, rivalry with compatriot Tessa Sanderson and both women reached the podium at the 1984 Olympic Games. On this occasion it was Sanderson who took the Olympic title and Whitbread who had to be content with the bronze medal.
After placing second behind Sanderson at the Commonwealth Games of 1986 Whitbread set a world record in qualifying for the 1986 European Championships in Athens and went on to clinch both that event and win the following year's World Championships.
Whitbread was slightly below par at the 1988 Olympics and finished in silver medal position with a throw four metres less than that of Petra Felke. A chronic shoulder injury ruined her career from that point on and, after a failed attempt at a comeback in 1992, she retired from the sport.
She was married to athletics agent and promoter Andy Norman from 1997 until his death in 2007. Whitbread was voted Britain's Sports Personality of the year in 1987.

Re: Fatima Whitbread Friday
Good morning, everyone, and happy Friday!
Bama, I so get the treading-in -a-furball thing. Freddie has had a couple of fireballs this week, and DH has complained about treading in one with bare feet, so ... I have told him to wear his slippers!
Good to "see" you, Laura. I'm sorry you're having kitty issues again , but it sounds as if your vet has good advice.
WTG on all your errands, Dogged!
Today, my plan is to paint that wall of the sitting room. DH is WFH today, but has to witness a test online this morning, which should keep him occupied for at least a couple of hours, so that will give me plenty of time to prep and do the first coat. Then, I can hopefully do the second coat this afternoon while he's writing his report.
Additional things I *could * do, but are probably too ambitious: ideally I would like to pull out freezer and clean behind, defrost freezer
Jobs that are either smaller, or can be broken into small tasks: clean out cubby holding my gardening trug and cat food, tackle tall cupboard one shelf at a time.
That way I could leave the freezer until tomorrow, which might be better!

Re: Fatima Whitbread Friday
Good morning Kittykatt
How do you come up with all these athletes? I've never heard of Fatima (and a lot of the others...)
Thanks for the start!
Decluttering NEVER ends, does it? We still have too much...
Friday. We have sunshine and COLD. Seems to be a pattern. I take the sunshine
happily even with the cold. Those grey days are very depressing.
I will have a morning class, some grocery shopping but I'll be home the rest of the day.
Starting with
feed pup
meds/suppl for me
D2Ex
lol
PUPAs main
vacuum main

Re: Fatima Whitbread Friday
I can't believe it's Friday again! It's felt like a full week, but I'm not sure why.
I'm not even doing payroll work that much.. . . For my current normal, I guess I had some extras thrown in: walking with B, an extra payroll meeting, payroll exam prep, hosting a larger than usual Tuesday dinner crew, a mammogram. There was a bit of work on the NY cards - but not much writing got don. Hmm... I'm glad it's Friday!
How is WFH going today, trissie?
How is the painting going, Kitty? I admire you; I would never attempt to paint my own walls. Thank you for another inspiring athlete story.
I'm in tune with you, kitkat. The sunshine makes all the difference! We are weather twins. I really need to prioritize some decluttering.
The good news here -- the sun is shining! It is 3*F (-16.1), and it looks like there's no wind.
I'm done with exam prep for now, just waiting to see if teachers want changes. Pretty sure at least one will. Another has OK-ed their exam already.
Today, I'm meeting the girls at the gym at 10:30. Tonight, I have reservations at a fav restaurant for dh's birthday date. I have a card and a small gift for him - although, I can't remember where I put it. Hmmm.... Other things to do: NY cards - serious progress, writing time, remake guest beds, maybe towel laundry. And a trip to the bank.
Next:
- some qt
- back exercises
- reclaim kitchen
Later:
- make bed
- more NY cards ready for the mail
- gather stuff to jog, swim, and shower
- 10:15 otd to the gym
- gym: jog
- gym: swim a couple laps
- gym: hot tub with the girls
- gym: s2s and self care
- bank errand
- lunch
- maybe join dh in a coffee shop?
- NY cards progress
- writing time
- remake 1 guest bed
- decluttering 15 minutes?
- otd @ 5:55 for 6:15 dinner reservation
- duolingo
- update health apps
- reply to dsil C
- bring in firewood? (not sure we'll get home in time for a fire tonight)
TaDas!
- up; weighed myself - very high but no higher than yesterday
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website
- payroll: set up zoom room for exit test on Monday; shared with S
- reviewed WF delivery

Happy Friday!
Indeed a Friday is happy, is I am working from home
Kids are home too, which means my work routine was more disturbed, but I had a lot of no-brain admin tasks planned anyway. Done with payroll, I promised the kids I'd take them to the sweets shop as a mid-term reward, so I have about 30 minutes before we go. Downstairs needs some tough loving, eventhough I did take advantage of kids sleeping early morning and mopped LR floor.
kittykatt, you have some big plans for today!
kitkat, I just ask wiki or AI
I prefer cold sunny days to grey ones too!
is it end of term already, helia? but you're not teaching much next term, rigth?
I see a lot of shrimps on your menu, L.Ann! They are super expensive here, given we're totally land-locked

Re: Fatima Whitbread Friday
Thanks as always, trissie, for the interesting start. Enjoy some sweets for me.
Kittykatt, my dh refuses to wear slippers/shoes inside too so “ya get what ya get and ya don’t fuss a bit” is my thought process. Happy painting.
Kitkat, sounds like a nice day to sit by a window to me.
Helia, you sound very brave to me to get in a pool and hot tub in winter. I don’t think I’d warm up afterward. It does sound relaxing though, enjoy yourself.
LAnn, stay safe out there.
Laura, good to see you post! I’m with ya on the pets.
Dogged, Popeyes is known for beans and rice, why would they take it away, it’s the Cajun part of the restaurant.
I’m up. No surprises just yet, except someone knocked over the Christmas tree. Yeah, it’s still up, but it’s so pretty. It’s a rose gold with white lights, I was debating decorating it for spring. It lights up the room at night which is nice, no need to carry a phone light through when I walk through at night. It’s bare as I packed up the decorations. I just picked it up, no harm done. I suspect Daisy, as she was curled up by my door like she was trying to get far away from something lol, and she’s my youngest, the bully of my stories yesterday. I’m in search of coffee so bbl.
Done:
Emails
Dogs out and in
Checked on dh who needs to be getting ready for an appt
♥ Wake each day expecting good things to happen! ♥
