Simply Saturday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

It's simply Saturday. That's all. Many of us are retired from the work place so Saturday means less since it's just another day of the week. But it used to be a respite from the work week, a day to spend time with family and friends or work on household projects. Today, take it as a day that is still that respite day, more relaxing, more open to possibilities.

I'm relaxing today, after a "work" week of classes.

Thank you for starting us off with a nice "S" word Twin's Mom! Who really wants to hear about storms or snow? January is finally finishing, but the weather isn't.

Dh got rid of a big metal cabinet in the garage. It was right beside the big chest freezer. I'm so glad that's gone now. Because I hardly ever look in there, thinking nothing is in there, I didn't know that there are at least 2 strings of outside Christmas lights and 2 grapevine wreaths with no decorations on them. Dh said there was a lot of mouse droppings as well.

I am out of wet cat food, so I need to brush the snow off of my car and go to a store. I also need to bring some clean litter in from the garage.

Yes! Saturday usually means I have a grandchild with me, usually we go out for breakfast (which I don’t do on regular weekdays), and I usually watch ballgames.
Today — Dgd is here and we are eating at home because we have SNOW! (Sorry, Cathy!) Not a lot, the grass is still peeking through, but enough that I didn’t want to get out on the roads.
Ddil and dgs are at the tournament and I am sooo glad we didn’t go — she texted that they are going room to room and some of the moderators make the parents wait in the halls. Dgs is team captain. I don’t know how the roads are for them, or for ds who left at 4:00 am headed for Texas.
Tomorrow is another day.

I feel almost shell shocked this morning. It was a busy week. I slept in, which was lovely, and the house is quiet. Dh has gone to Torah study, and will go from there to a bourbon "auction" today, so he'll be out until sometime this afternoon.

I'd like to do some stamping today perhaps, and some maintenance in my upstairs room where I spent the week, lol.

I got ddog to the vet at 4:30 yesterday. They don't know what's going on with her, but it's very distressing to me. Vet did a very very quick rectal exam which indicated "no mass" there, hopefully ruling out a tumor. Her bloodwork etc. was fine a week ago, after this began so probably no infection. So we're going to try a probiotic that will reset some tummy enzymes and perhaps firms things up. And she's supposed to have teeth cleaned on 11 Feb so if we're still dealing with this, and assuming she doesn't get worse, they can do a more complete exam then. She was beyond unhappy and I was a little put out that dh went to lunch in a nearby community, and wasn't home in time to go with me. (but I've taken dogs alone for years and years.)

By the time we got home it was six and I didn't want to cook - we went to nearby restaurant and ate appetizers for dinner at the bar. Saw two sets of neighbors there - had to say hi as we were going out, and another former neighbor (now in another subdivision close) as we were leaving. Felt like a neighborhood spot, which felt good. Came home and read on the couch with the fire going, while dh went to sleep early.

We have light snow and twenty degrees - we're not supposed to get much, if any accumulation. Weather permitting, DH and I are supposed to see friends M and S for dinner tonight, his birthday is Monday. Roads look to be fine right now and snow showers are supposed to end by noon or one p.m.

I did stop at the post office yesterday and there were no HOA dues checks there, so I'm not feeling pressure to get to the bank today either. The checks I have here came within the last two days.

It is cold and wet here and we are expecting snow flurries!!!

Right now, we are watching an old Tarzan movie and sweetie is sleeping. Try to feed him breakfast this morning, but he has forgotten how to chew. I could put a piece of banana in his mouth and he didn’t know what to do with it. It’s weird because he has no problems eating his lunch and dinner. So it’ll be interesting to see what happens later on today. I do have some protein drinks and protein powder so I can make him a milkshake if needed.

As for the rest of the day, I have a load of laundry to fold and a load of towels to wash but other than that, there’s not much I need to do. The house could need a good dusting, but right now while sweetie is sleeping I don’t dare do anything to wake him up. I have no idea what the rest of the day hold so I will probably do some reading.

I need to go to the grocery store for a few things like bananas, but that two will wait. Like Lucy Lee is too nasty to go outside.

Up in the nite sigh ~
did get some writing done.
I have pork ribs cooking in the crock pot now.
Veg. to cook later on.

Cloudy here today.
41* / 56* today's temps.

Had some food.
Simple Saturday here.

Got the house smelling great turned the pork ribs over & added beans.
Getting ready to write out more prompts in my goals planner for Feb.

Did a writing sprint. 25 min.

The ribs are better this time more like what I had in mind just a tweak on one spice,
and add a splash of vinegar will help.

Snow flurries RR? Wow.

Dh is already home, lol. His name was drawn first so he got his pick of what to purchase, and his name was drawn a second time soon after. He only had two chances so he was done. He got a very expensive bottle that he may resell for four times what he paid for it. At this auction, winners are allowed to purchase the "allotted whiskies" that the stores don't get much of, and they sell them for the MSRP, not the market price.

I'm still in pajamas, dog is finally up. She was sleeping off the meds from yesterday poor girl.

Update: dog walked two laps (about 2/3 mile in 21 degrees, "feels like" 7 degrees. She didn't offer to poop or try to poop. I'm heading upstairs.

Good afternoon! Having a leisurely Saturday here thus far. I should have gone to a funeral with DH, but I forgot about it and slept in too late to get ready. One of his longtime colleagues -- a really great guy. I think he may have been one of DH's teachers as well.

I need to make a list for DH to so a small shopping run -- we're out of milk and OJ and could use a few other things, too. This again reminds me that I need to make a list for a big run as well, but this first.

Continued cold here -- for whatever reason, I was feeling colder this morning than I have been the past few days, even though it's warmer today than it has been. We're supposed to hit 20F tomorrow with highs in the 20's all week I think. However, we're supposed to have a little snow most days of the week. Nothing big, but since nothing can melt, it keeps piling up. When I went with dfriend for pedicures yesterday, I had her stop in the street at the foot of the driveway because there wasn't really anyplace to get in on the passenger side until the garage.

Surprised to see Rose getting snow and saddened to hear about the breakfast.

Glad you're getting some peace and quiet today, Twins. Sorry to hear about ddog's continuing problems; I hope something is found and resolved soon.

Sounds like Cathy and Nancy are having a perfectly ordinary day, which is good.

It does sound like a good thing you and DGD did not go to the competition, lucylee, both from a road safety standpoint and from a boredom standpoint. If you can't even watch and root, there's not much point.

DH and DD are headed out to the hockey game this evening; he and DC went yesterday. He offered me dibs for both, but it's just such a bother for me. I'm happy to watch from home if it's on TV or just follow on the app if it's not.

Hoping to get something done today, but I'm not sure what. Probably not a winning recipe, but it is what it is.

Dgd and I just got out for lunch. Roads are fine, but it is sooo cold and windy!
Ddil is keeping us posted — they have won 3 and lost 2 matches. She won’t know till after lunch if they are in the finals. It is based on some kind of point system.

I'm finishing up hour #6 of my day and am mostly on track with my planned activities.

I am so very grateful for DS17 and GF16 volunteering to do curbside pickup in the city for me. They are thrilled that I am paying to fill his pickup with gas. It is a WIN-WIN for all.

I washed my hair this morning and later went for a walk outside, not realizing what that combination would lead to. My hair froze! It was the strangest sensation to feel the icy hair.

In trying to find a solution, I researched and ordered hanging shelves with Sunday - Saturday slots. I intend to use this in DH closet to hold his underwear. Will having a visual help him in remembering to put on clean underwear every day? I give it 50/50 chance of working.
