Working Wednesday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

We could call today Anti Procrastination, but I'm going for Working Wednesday. I've been feeling AWOL this week, down all kinds of rabbit holes, but today I need to come back through reality and get some stuff done here at home.

Won't you join me? Throw in some of those jobs that have been put off and let's work together. You folks are always such an encouragement to me.

Thank you for the start, Twins. There are three things I would like to achieve today, as it is currently dry outside, with some sun!

Hoover the car (I usually do this on Thursday, but DH has gone to Leeds on the train, leaving me with the car, and it's going to rain tomorrow, so two good reasons to tackle this today!)

Some garden time - (not sure what I'll do out there yet, but I'll think of something!)

Clean the kitchen - (my usual Wednesday task!)

Hi!

I won't be working outside as it's raining. I don't know how much I'll be getting done inside because I overdid it outside yesterday. (Moving those 3 cement birdbath pieces was a mistake! Dh tried and couldn't do it, and I needed them moved from where they were.)

I need to do dishes. There is one large pot that is currently taking up all the room in the sink.
I also need to water all of the inside plants.
Tomorrow is garbage day and I would like to put some 99% empty jars into the glass recycling.
Bathroom garbage needs to be dealt with.
I have been dealing with stuff I would like to either donate or recycle.
Dishes never stop.
Laundry never stops.
Litter boxes never stop.
Paper never stops.

Good morning, it was pouring and windy and now the birds are chirping, sent anti water dog out to potty.

I too am in group sharing a book mystery woman, we are reading The In-between by Hadley Vhlahos on my DOK group, she talks about the experiences of people on hospice just before they transition.i read it years ago but we are discussing it.

LL it is normal to forget names and words as we age, heck I have been doing it my whole life, for me it got so very noticeably worse. I don't think I had muscle pain but I have a controlled autoimmune disorder that when it flares I hurt everywhere. Probably would fall under fibromyalga. I can usually tie it to a food I shouldn't have eaten.

LadyM, does your husband have alzheimers or dementia progressing? That is hard, I have had family.members with it. I discovered it is rampant in my mom's lineage. She was adopted (died young from lung cancer)and I found her birth family though ancestry DNA. I just wanted some medical history. Undiagnosed female cancers until too late to treat, alzheimers and women carry a gene that caused blindness in boys. I did not seem to be a carrier of blindness gene, I do carry 1 tyter for Alheimer which is why I was freaking about with memory issues, and my doctor saved me with a hysterectomy because tumors had started growing all over female organs.

Kittkatt our resident Gardner, I just ordered 5 rose bushes to plan in front of house. I want them to landscape me in a growing box near my bedroom windows. These are supposed to be very fragrant like those in England we found on the canal. I do hope that is true. I could just plant them in the ground couldn't I? I really know nothing about growing things. I keep trying with some sporadic success. I will plant my starter seeds today for herbs to see if I can get some to grow. To plant in erb garden on pack porch. I did get some flower seeds to scatter around rose bushes in the planter. The bushes should be OK in their containers for a wee right? I am on spring break next week, so I might just create my own but the ground slopes in front of house. So it was going to need raised.

Dh folded the 2 loads and I have 1 more of clothes, plus Friday I will do sheets and towels when cleaning lady is here.

Next week I will go back to Y, I want to sew my chair covers and repair graduation robes since I am about to retire so I can return the the following week. I also want to make some more decorated Ukranian Easter eggs.

Today
Set up bills for Friday
Clean off desk
Type up minutes for Parish life and send out.
Call and set up furnace and AC check

At work over next 3 to 4 weeks:
Hang posters need to take in step stool.
Sort papers and file them in drawer
Write up how to instructions for new teacher
Update the spread sheet and expand it until end of June.
Get more jita codes for new students.
Make 2 math lists and laminate one for me to keep.
Make copies of punchline books so I keep originals.
Take home my materials, but leave her copies.
Write up adult ed manual of how it works here for new teachers.
And whatever else is left on my list at school.

It is a rainy stormy day all day. We have had so much weather. 2 touch downs of tornados in last 6 months which is rare. Both times we were in the eye of the storm and didnt not get touched but could see it happening all around us, very odd sensation.

I am unmotivated today.

I'm trying to think through and recall all those thoughts lately that I've said I'd deal with another time.

Yesterday I went down a rabbit hole of learning something about AirTable. It's a relational database that some are using to correlate and analyze genealogical data. I watched about 3/4 of a webinar on it a few weeks back, and went back and reviewed it and watched the rest, and started playing with it. That was several hours. I was still upstairs when dh got home from bowling around nine p.m. (let me tell you, the dog was not happy with me.) Anyway, I hope I can get back to that but it gives me a way to organize my info that is not the 35 page Word document. I'm linking to the url for documents and trying to include full citations (sometimes i balk at getting them written.)

Some things OMM today:
-Amazon return
-pick up meds from drugstore (probably tomorrow)
-place to stay in Washington DC if I'm able to get there
-review dd's tax return for her - I need to do something every year because she pays tax in NY and NJ to get the credit for tax paid to another state.
-which reminds me it would be nice to have our tax stuff together before I go away on the 21st. (Eeeeek! ten days!)
-Activate a credit card, I keep getting email about it, would be nice to do before I need it.
-clean out my box of papers etc. on the kitchen counter. (Dh has more stuff in his, but mine is overflowing too.)
-HOA and temple cemetery treasurer duties, and I never sent out the financial statements for last year?
-what else? Now that I'm sitting down thinking, there will be a lot popping up I hope.

Lucylee, we are to have storms this p.m. also. I'm hoping dh can grill? I think it's steak, sweet potato and green salad.

Kittykatt, I've always loved the very British phrase of "hoovering" for vacuuming! I don't hoover my car often enough, I run it through the car wash but then don't bother with vacuuming and other stuff. I know your garden is waking up these days.

Cathy, it does sound like a rest day is in order for you, lots of lifting and moving yesterday. You're reminding me that I never got with Habitat about picking up some stuff in our garage, need to follow up there again.

Roses, CostumeLady! They can be finicky, depending on the type. We had old fashioned red climbing roses when I was growing up, nothing fancy, not finicky at all. You are always so busy! I'm in awe of your energy. You're thinking three to four weeks out? BTW, I take gabapentin for a kind of neuralgia in my mouth and face, and feel that I lose words a lot. Given the alternative (extreme nerve pain) it's worth it.

I missed saying Happy Birthday to Lord M, Lady, please give him a gentle hug for me. And I didn't get to thank Harriet for fixing the Kitchen thread. It was bothering me and I wasn't sure why.

I'm glad you're okay, bw2, I was wondering where you were today. I hope all is well in your household today.

I'm waving madly to all!

Made breakfast for dh and myself. Home made egg mc muffins. We had the English muffins, eggs, ham and cheese, so a few moments later there was toasted and fried food being piled onto plates. After we ate I asked dh about the various empty jars. 7 out of the 8 are now out of the fridge and soaking in the sink to get the sticky remnants out of the bottom of the jars.

It's pouring rain here. We don't have freezing rain yet and the power is on. There are parts of Ontario that have a lot of ice and no power. I've got my fingers crossed that we won't lose power.

CL, your roses should be fine left in their containers.for a short while, but don't forget to check on them and water them if necessary - pots dry out a lot a lot more quickly than in the ground! I think they should be happy either in the ground (so long as it doesn't get waterlogged in winter!) or in a raised bed. As Twins' said, roses can be very fussy, and it's a good idea to prepare the ground well before you plant. I always add very well composted farmyard manure when planting, and a generous helping of rose food (my personal favourite is the David Austin brand) and our about 5 litres of water (not sure what that is in gallons?) gently into the hole before planting. Another tip, I always use Mycorrhizal fungi, such as Rootgrow, on the roots when planting, as it helps the roses establish more quickly, have a stronger root system, and flower better. Oh, and they like a good mulch of well rotted farmyard manure (or horse, if you can get it!) on spring as well. Carefully in pick or trim off any leaves that show signs of disease, and deadhead any spent blooms to encourage them to keep flowering. You'll also need to make sure the roots don't get too dry over the summer especially in their first year, while they're getting established.
