Przewalski's horse[a] (Equus ferus przewalskii or Equus przewalskii), also called the takhi, Mongolian wild horse or Dzungarian horse, is a rare and endangered wild horse originally native to the steppes of Central Asia. It is named after the Russian geographer and explorer Nikolay Przhevalsky. Once extinct in the wild, since the 1990s it has been reintroduced to its native habitat in Mongolia in the Hustai National Park, Takhin Tal Nature Reserve, Khomiin Tal, and several other locales in Central Asia and Eastern Europe.

Several genetic characteristics of Przewalski's horse differ from those seen in modern domestic horses, indicating neither is an ancestor of the other. For example Przewalski's horse has 33 chromosome pairs compared with 32 for the domestic horse. Their ancestral lineages split from a common ancestor between 160,000 and 38,000 years ago, long before the domestication of the horse. Przewalski's horse was long considered the only remaining truly wild horse, in contrast with the American mustang and the Australian brumby, which are feral horses descended from domesticated animals. That status was called into question when domestic horses of the 5,000-year-old Botai culture of Central Asia were found to be more closely related to Przewalski's horses than to E. f. caballus. The study raised the possibility that modern Przewalski's horses could be the feral descendants of the domestic Botai horses. However, it remains possible that both the Botai horses and the modern Przewalski's horses descend separately from the same ancient wild Przewalski's horse population. Its taxonomic position is still debated, with some taxonomists treating Przewalski's horse as a species, E. przewalskii, others as a subspecies of wild horse (E. ferus przewalskii) or a variety of the domesticated horse (E. ferus caballus).

Przewalski's horse is stockily built, smaller, and shorter than its domesticated relatives. Typical height is about 12–14 hands (48–56 inches, 122–142 cm), and the average weight is around 300 kg (660 lb). They have a dun coat with pangaré features and often have dark primitive markings.

The Takhi horse is a long time favourite in Czech Republic, given the Prague zoo has the longest uninterrupted history of breeding Przewalski's horses in the world and keeps the studbook of this species. In 2011, Prague Zoo started a new project, Return of the Wild Horses. With the support of public and many strategic partners, dozens of captive-bred horses are being transported to the Gobi desert in Mongolia and to Kazachstan, returning them to their once homeland where they went extinct.

Happy Tuesday!
Never got here yesterday, because after I took DBD to the meeting point for their week-long school trip (intense swimming training Mon-Fri), I went to work, stayed late making up time, then library and then a well deserved long massage, meaning I got home at 6:30 and all I was able to do were the basic routines and dinner.
I have an online seminar from 9 to 2 today, so I am doing home office - no point in sitting with my earbuds in the office! Also, it means I don't have to rush this morning and I will be (at least in theory) able to start on housework / yard work at 2pm.

Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for starting us off. How very interesting about the Czech Republic '" breeding programmes with Przewalski's horse!

Helia, your supper sounded yummy! Which reminds me, we haven't had pork chops for ages!

L.Ann, your spring weather sounds similar to ours except (for once!) without the drizzle!

KitKat, my spring garden is very green ATM. Everything is coming back to life, and the and the flowers are making an appearance:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/photos/share/l ... kohiorV2hi

Gma,.yikes on the root canals! Ive had one, years ago, and all I remember was what a relief it was to be free of the pain I'd had, now the nerve was gone.

Bama, Dogged is right, and there's always that one extra special pet that comes I to our lives - DDeparted Trifle was mine.

Dogged, you're a mine of information about dogs - it's been fascinating to read! Cats are so different (sigh!). No cheap (er) OTC human remedies for them! I came across this article yesterday evening, and wondered whether it might help Germane at all?
https://www.vettimes.com/clinical/small ... s-and-cats

I never made it back yesterday , but my day consisted of a nice walk, time in my garden, chatting g with Dnextdoorneighbour C, and a good blitz upstairs in my house. I also put away the light box for the summer, and reorganised part of the bottom of my wardrobe. And I found Fred's insurance papers, ready for his blood test and full health check next week.

Today is another cloudy, grey start, but dry so far. I need to prioritise another walk (I got out of the habit a bit over the winter, as we had so much rain - some areas had 50 days straight of rain, and we had over 40 days. I don't mind going out in a little drizzle, but that was just too much!) I need to check my pots and see if any more of the daffodils have finished flowering and need to be moved, and if any of them need a drink. We haven't had significant rain for a while!

Good morning Ladies!
Thanks for the start trissie - So nice you took the time for a massage! - We have (or used to have?) Przewalski's horses at the Toronto zoo... It's been years since I went. I see a green house on your list. That's exciting.
Kittykatt LOVE your garden. You do a wonderful job with container gardening, something I'd like to attempt .

Dpup decided that 5:30 is her "new time" to get up... I'm not excited about it. She noticed a bunny in the backyard last night and got a little too boisterous. I hope bunny does not decide that my yard is the perfect place for the babies... (Last Easter's story: I went out to hide Easter eggs for kids; pup started sniffing near a shrub. I looked: there was fluff covering a hole in the ground. Then the fluff started moving rhythmically... Somehow, I talked pup out of further investigation, fenced off the area until further notice. ).

We have not been able to connect with Dfriend: there is a 5 hour time difference... We are on summer hours - they have not changed the clock yet. Hopefully, later today.
Sitting here warming my back. It became my morning routine. Definitely helps with movement. Big pains subsided, I'm functional. (Thanks for asking, Bama)

Today I should be catching up in the house. There is also a coffee planned with DD. Gym class in the evening.
Will be starting with MR
-pay phone bill
-make shopping list
-keep laundry moving

Good morning, KitKat! Thank you for your very kind words. I can sympathise with your early start -Matilda has decided that 5.45 am is the perfect time to get up! Fortunately our clocks do their thing for summer time this coming weekend, so that should buy me a little extra dark time in the morning (for a few weeks, and then as the days get much longer still, it will get light really early!)

It's still grey and overcast but dry for now. I've take Fred out and had some time in my tiny front garden. Just had coffee, and now I'm going to to tackle the pots in my back garden.

I've heard of the Przewalski horse before, trissie, but I didn't know of your country's breeding program to bring them back to Mongolia! That's a LONG online seminar. Ugh. I hope it's somewhat interesting. Nice there's no need to rush.
Your garden is beautiful, Kitty! I always enjoy seeing pictures of it. I wonder what your neighbor has under the black tarp? Enjoy your walk!
kitkat, I hope you can connect with your friend. Coffee with DD sounds nice! I take it your back is better enough for a gym class.

Yesterday: Besides payroll, I got my passport renewal in the mail! I also got a load of laundry washed - partially folded and put away - the shirts and pants. Now, I have 2 baskets of laundry to fold and p/a: one of towels and a smaller one of clothes. The pork chops were tasty. I don't remember what was in the sauce (dh had made this dish and he didn't remember either) but it did include capers, which usually I don't care for. But they were nice in this recipe.

Today, I need to be otd in 1 hour to go to K's house for the KS2J get together. Then, I'll leave early at 9:55 to go to my eye appointment. This afternoon, I'd like to jog, make a Kroger run, do some payroll, spiff the bathroom and living room, spiff the MBR, and spiff the bathroom and living areas in preparation for dinner guests. We are hosting Tuesday dinner at 6:30 - 8:30ish. Dd30 is cooking this week, so that makes less work for us.
