A skipping rope (or jump rope) is equipment used in sport and play that involves rhythmically jumping over a rope swung underfoot and overhead. The activity is practiced recreationally and competitively, with disciplines such as freestyle routines (featuring creative, combination techniques) and speed events (maximum jumps within timed intervals).
The activity has a long history across multiple cultures. Evidence of rope-skipping dates back to ancient China, where Han dynasty peoples practiced it as part of New Year celebrations, and to ancient Egypt, where children are depicted jumping over vines. In the 16th century, European explorers recorded vine-jumping activities among Indigenous peoples in Australia.
Once treated as a gendered pastime with primarily boys skipping in Europe and America during the 16th and 17th century, as In many communities the activity was initially considered improper for girls, who were discouraged from exposing ankles;
However, participation by girls grew in the 18th century, along with the development of skipping-rope chants and games organized and led by girls, including rules about turn-taking and entry to play.
By the 19th century, skipping flourished in urban settings and children's street culture. In thei United States, smooth sidewalks and dense neighborhoods made group play easier. In the mid-20th century, educator Lucy Nulton documented rhymes that American children chanted or sang while jumping rope.

◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕
Kittykatt, thanks for the start ! I hope you have a good time at church. Oooh tiramisu...
Dogged thanks for the gardener's video. Incredible to have so much snow at the end of April... I can see how the harvest season is shorter for you Canadians !
I'm more or less caught up on posts. Such a busy Saturday. We had 4 guests for dinner. I spent part of the morning doing shopping and cooking, after an appt with my doc. MrNG did some cleaning, fortunately the house wasn't too bad. He also cleaned the barbecue, who had rusted a bit during winter. In the afternoon I managed to go to the library with DS7, also went to the pharmacist for my HRT prescription, then the guests arrived. We had a very good time, and as everyone brought food and I cooked more than needed, we have leftovers for today.
We have beautiful weather, yesterday was warm and we ate on the patio - which is a good thing because we don't have enough indoors chairs.
A lot of little things to do today... and the kids go back to school tomorrow, so our morning routines are going to be hectic again, after two weeks of calm (MrNG was home most days and I had 3 days off myself).

I need to spray my roses too,
kittykatt - but it's been too windy for that lately
lauralind, glad you had a good time at the concert!
Frenchie! I missed you and was wondering if you were away or something! Is your shoulder wound a new thing, or is it the absces thing from earlier? I thought that was located on your neck?
I totally crashed after 9om yesterday. Had a good 10 hours of sleep, then some lazy time in bed, but now am ready to face the day! We need to reclaim the raspberry patch, the rose arch needs some work, and I'd love to prune some bushes - we have probably two hundred bushes in our garden, and they could use some thinning and removing of dead branches. Can't be done in a single day, but over time, I will see progress!

Good morning!
Thanks for the start
Kittykatt! Confession: I could never skip... or, at least, could not get a flow with a rope...
Love reading about your gardening... I just noticed the ferns are poking their heads through the soil... Slow start, but a start.
trissie you NEEDED that sleep! Good that you got it.
FFly good to have a few days quiet... How is your shoulder healing?
I'm up ... a little sluggish: spent about an hour trying to control a coughing fit last night just before bed...
I have a class this morning, then we are watching an afternoon play off game. In between, I must take my pup out: the sun is shining!
Need to get moving with MR/meds etc.

trissie it's still the same wound, the kyst was located halfway between shoulder and nape. I had nurses visiting daily at home since the 4th of April, we agreed on Friday that MrNG would check on the thing himself and they would return on Monday, then maybe it will just be a "normal" wound and heal without need for supervision.
I've been following your difficult times, added stress and improvisation to your already very full days... I hope you can find a way to at least get some predictability in the coming days and weeks.
kitkat, the ferns are the first signs of Spring where you are ? The wound is healing well but it's been very slow ! Difficult to be home every day from 6pm to 7pm for the nurse visit, no way to do after work shopping or errand of any kind, for 3 weeks already. And I should consider myself lucky that the nurses visit at home, instead of having to go someplace in a waiting room full of people. Anyway MrNG will do most of the supervision from now on.
We ate leftovers for lunch, and asparagus because Spring can't be Spring without a few dishes of asparagus. So now there are the same number of plates and dishes of leftovers, the fridge is a Tetris game, and an added plate of leftover asparagus on a pile of other things

.
We must remember not to do the weekly groceery shopping on the same day that we're hosting dinner !

I loved jumping rope as a child! There are so many creative ways to jump rope. I could criss cross jump by myself and could jump in with 2 ropes going at the same time (held by 2 other children). I loved all the rhymes and games around it too. The elementary school my girls went to had a jump roping club. They did some pretty wild things, like dd30 would do a round off into a twirling rope (cartwheel to land on 2 feet). Both girls could jump rope while simultaneously bouncing on a pogo ball. Dd30 could jump rope while bouncing on a pogo stick!! They had some pretty amazing demonstrations/ shows!
I love the SHEM, Kitty. I want that kind of Sunday, and I hope you're having that sort of day too.
trissie, did the girls stay overnight?
FFB, I love having leftovers on hand! I'm so glad you had a nice time with friends last night.
kitkat, phooey on that cough! You still have it. Our trees have finally budded! Spring is in the air here.
Our ferns are up too.
There's a female goldfinch at our empty bird feeder. . . It seems like she is looking at me through the window and scolding me - or asking me for food.
She's still there, checking out each of the feeding bays. . . Good reminder - refill the bird feeder today. --OK, I left this post here and went and did just that. LOL!
Yesterday was not super productive, but I think I needed a down day. Yesterday, I tidied my stuff on the MBR cedar chest, folded and put away a load of towels, kept on top of the kitchen, reviewed dd27's resume', figured out what I wanted and ordered a new QT study book, went for a slow 5K jog (toe was fine - a little more sore when I got home), stopped by Walgreens, did a quick WF run, and got a yummy meal of leftover chicken cacciatore, rice, and fresh green salad on the table. I read in the evening - I'm within 10 pages of finishing the current book I'm reading!
(Happiness Falls) I really need to update goodreads. I've also listened to 4 books on audio since I last updated it.
Today: The sun is shining
but it is cooler today, 48F now and maybe getting up to 61F. We are fairly scheduled today, but no Sunday dinner to host bc the Cs are out for the evening. 10 - 12:30-ish church + coffee hour; 3:30 - 6 host CG2; 8:15 - 9:15ish family zoom; discuss dd27's resume' with her at some point. Other things to do: refill the bird feeder, some payroll (start prep for D3, set up sub plan document), finish laundry, maybe get clean sheets on the bed, and set myself up for the week: lists. If I can get a menu from dh for our hosting on Tuesday night, that would be helpful; I could even make a grocery order to arrive tomorrow.
