Happy Mothers Day to all of our hardworking mothers in SHEville. If this is not the date it is celebrated where you are, I say let's celebrate them all. After all, mothers deserve to be recognized.
I am happy to say that we are home safe and sound. We tried a new route home, through Quebec, to avoid the highway closures in Montreal and it worked out pretty well. I came home to find that the parcel that was probably delivered the day after I left town was still sitting at my apartment door. I do have good neighbours.
Germane has been fed and watered and is sleeping off her trip. I brought the first load up from the car and had intended to leave the rest for tomorrow morning, but after a few hours of rest I remembered that I have a package of fish thawing out in one of those bags, so I went down and cleared out the rest. I did cheat and put the suitcase and one bag in my car as I couldn't fit them on the cart, but I do have the rental car cleared out and ready to return.
Have a great Sunday. I'll be along some time later to start picking through the stuff I brought home and trying to organize it.

Welcome home,
Dogged, glad you arrived safely, and what a joy your neighbours are!
Happy Mothers' Day to all!
My family is not much into celebrating this particular one. I mean, it's not a traditional one around here anyways, though I've read somewhere that Alice Masaryk, the half-American daughter of our first president (Czech Republic, then known as Czechoslovakia, was established after WW1) was the one to introduce it, but it was abandoned during the communist era and Hallmark is not that strong here to maintain a holiday just for the sake of sale of holiday cards
Up early today. DH has a cold or allergy or something and his snoring chased me out of the bedroom and the couch is not as comfy as the bed. Three weeks till his sleep lab apt - I sure hope they will offer him some treatment! Sky is clear and it's sunny, a perfect day for garden work, so off I go!

Good morning, Dogged, and thank you for starting us off. I'm so glad you had a good trip and a safe uneventful journey home.
Good morning, Trissie! Sorry about the short night, but glad you can enjoy a beautiful time in the garden. We don't do Mother's day here either, for us it's Mothering Sunday mid way through Lent
Wishing a very happy Mother's Day to those who do celebrate today!
I'm typing this in bed with Jude on my lap. I'm having another quiet day and giving church a miss. I'm still feeling very tired and I don't want to risk infecting anyone. The 72 hours symptom-free are just up, but we have several very elderly and/ or frail members of the congregation.
Yesterday I did have some time in my garden, mostly just sitting out there enjoying the sunshine, fresh air and birdsong, but I did do some watering and deadheading. I also PUPA,did a quick dust and hoover downstairs, so the sitting room looks welcoming. I gave Fred a good brush (he is struggling to groom his lower back properly and the fur gets clumped) and then corralled the cats together in the bedroom room and sprayed the rest of the house with the household flea spray. The ant were steadily resisting kinder methods of eviction from the kitchen, and although I know they don't carry diseases, I don't know where all their little feet have been! I then joined the cats until it was time to ventilate the house. It was overdue its annual spray, and I really do not want fleas in the house, so a good job done.
DH's concert went well, no it he told meast night he will be WFH on Monday, as their office has been closed due to an infestation of *something*.

( another reason that makes me feel glad I've done our house. Whatever it is , I dont want it here! Fortunately he hasn't been to the office at all this last week.) Apparently Rentokil have been summoned to deal.with whatever is infesting the office. DH will be working in the kitchen tomorrow, as he understands with both of us being unwell I really need to give both bedrooms and the bathroom a really good deep clean tomorrow.
But all that's for tomorrow . Today is going to be another gentle day . Once Jude gets off me, I'll change the sheets on the bed. Lunch is going to be homemade chicken soup and freshly made bread, as neither of us feels like a full roast lunch. I need to fold laundry when it's dry and PA. It's another beautiful day, so I'd like to spend some time in my garden too.

Thanks for the start, Doggedly, glad you've had a good trip ! Mother's Day in France is a few weeks later, we don't really celebrate although traditionnally, school teachers will have the kids "make" something, a card or a small craft, for Mother's Day and Father's Day. In the last 10 years teachers have turned this into "Parents' Days" to include families where there can be two moms or two dads or other types of families.
trissie, sorry for the unconmfortable night. It's a wise thing that your DH gets checked for his snoring. It seems you've spent time in your garden yesterday, I hope you can see progress. Also hoping you can do fun stuff !
Kittykatt I'm curious about the infestation at your DH's office ! It must not happen very often and must be quite serious...
kitkat It's nice to read you share good times with your DGD (( ))
Thanking L.Ann for the book suggestions in the conversation ! I'm always looking for new authors or genres to try.
Thank you all for the encouragement to apply for the job yesterday, I did work on my resume, with help from chatGPT. I'm expecting MrNG to give me his opinion before I send it. It's true, that not applying could lead to "what if" and regret. I fould time to do some cleaning and cooking, also sorted some more pictures for the 2025 photobook. I hope to do July today, August will take longer because it was our camping trip to Belgium, NL and Luxemburg.
We watched The Secret Word of Arrietty from Studio Ghibli.
Woken up at 8am by storm then hail, after short night (both MrNG and I had insomnia). The kids are up, quietly playing in their bedrooms for now.
TADAs
woken up by storm and rain, brought drying rack full of clothes inside
tea while the kids were trying to make videos of lightning
breakfast listening to hail (nothing serious)
cleaned up, also peeled and froze some ginger I bought
TODOs in any order and maybe not everything
sort 2025 pictures : July
some cleaning in the house here and there to be company ready by Thursday
check the bedsheets for Thursday night for 4 guests
have MrNG's opinion on my CV and send it to recruiting team
prep taxes ? prep the spreadsheet like last year
the "ougrown clothes" project : get the pictures from MrNG, put them online (Vinted), store the bags properly somewhere accessible
move (exercise)
shower, wash hair, have MrNG redo my wound band-aid
cooking for lunch
MrNG will cook dinner
weekly list for upcoming week - only 2 days of payroll !
gardening, probably

Good morning, FFB! A big WTG for working on your CV yesterday. Reading down your list I see it's only a 2 day week for you in the office this week? Another piece of good news!
Regarding the "infestation" at DH's office, I will post further details when I know more. DH hadn't been given any details, the "powers that be" are being very tight lipped about it. Possibly because it doesn't look very good for an NHS building, even just one for IT staff, (no medics or patients onsite)! Everyone has just been told not to come in, and instead to WFH tomorrow. (I'm suspecting a combination of the usual suspects : fleas, mice, rats etc. None of which I want anywhere near our house!)
I've evicted all the cats and started tackling our bedroom. I'll do the proper clean tomorrow, but I'm changing the sheets, doing a thorough PUPA and finally a good spray before I quickly run out and shut the door! I'll then leave it for a few hours before thoroughly ventilating and then finally letting everyone back in.

I do not like ants inside either,
kittykatt, for ant coffee is not my preferred flavour! (they do tend to get into sugar)
Frenchie, I think DH has sleep apnoe, but also something that is blocking his airways. So maybe there's some corticoid spray (he used to get one for the snoring) or surgery or something - one of the indications for the apt was "is your significant other threatening to smother you with a pilow?"

GL with the job application - worst that can happen, they don't like your reply and never get back to you!

WTG, FFB, on making the decision to apply and working on your resume'. That's a great use of AI.
Sounds like you got some important tasks done yesterday, Kitty, de-bugging your house. (Your dh might appreciate the pun.) LOL! Chicken noodle soup sounds great as you and dh recover.
Glad you're safely home, Doggedly. Good neighbours are a blessing!
Enjoy another day in your garden, trissie.
Happy Mother's Day to those who celebrate! We just use it as an excuse to have brunch together. Since dd30 is traveling today, Dh, dd27, and I will have lunch together. Dh is making his egg scramble.
It looks like we're expected to have a sunny but cooler day today.
My bird feeder is empty. Those birds ate the entire feeder in 1 day.
I may wait until tomorrow to refill it.
Yesterday, was not too productive in terms of my lists. But I did start a draft of the IR exam for payroll and did a lot of online shopping to prep/ spruce up our house before we host a houseful of guests next month. I also bought a pack 'n play crib for baby I + some sheets to go on it. I got a nice meal on the table for dh and myself and enjoyed a little walking and a lot of visiting with dd27, dd30, M, and dh + Fable (+ many other friendly dogs
) at the dog park. A Belgian Malinois (named Schertz) was particularly interesting to watch. He is clearly a very intelligent dog!
Today, I'm up early to go for a jog since I didn't do that yesterday. Then, dh and I are visiting a church with dd27 at 10 a.m. That is followed by Mother's Day lunch with dd27 at our place. Around 2:00, dh and I are meeting MZ at a coffee shop. Then, I finally will have a couple unscheduled hours until dinner. I'll probably work on payroll and make a quick WF run. We're not sure if R and J12yo will be joining us or for dinner or not.
Next:
- back exercises
- gather stuff
- jog 5K
Later:
- s2s and self care
- squeegee and wipe down shower
- make bed
- 9:40 otd to visit church @ 10
- lunch at our place for 3 - dh cooks
- after lunch clean up
- 2 coffee with MZ
- WF run - sundry items
- payroll: finish IR Exam draft
- payroll: grade HW6
- payroll: prep for AI AS D9
- other things?
- will R and J12yo join us for dinner?
- dinner: rotisserie chicken, bread, Dutch cheese, pizza - maybe?
- after dinner clean up
- duolingo
- update health apps
- can I finish the book?
TaDas!
- up; weighed self - still very high
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website
- kitchen reclaimed
