Here we are half way through May!

In Ontario, Canada it's the first day for most garden centers and they will be really busy. It's time to get the gardens in! Flowers will be flying out the doors of any place that sells them. Veggie plants will also be flying out the doors for people who plant veggies. Soil will be tilled! New soil will be spread! We also have a long weekend here in Canada to celebrate Queen Victoria's Birthday.

The sun is shining! We are expecting warm weather! YAY!!

There are so many things to get people out of their homes today where I live.

Besides garden centers and nurseries being busy, busy, busy it's also the first weekend for garage sales. Where I live they only do them on Saturdays. I've never seen one on a Friday and rarely saw any on a Sunday.

Dh is still sleeping. All 3 cats are outside. Even though the sun comes up earlier they aren't allowed out until 7 a.m.

I am having a hot tea and CUOP here. I also have a load of stuff in the dryer that got washed last night.

We have rain here today too.
I need to paint on the side table with another coat of paint.

I've done one task sorting some items on the counter is helpful.
It occurs to me that it might be a great day for planting seeds!
But it's pretty cool 56* is our hi today.

Thinking of you.

Good morning

Happy Gardening to all to enjoy!
Gardening is definitely something that I enjoy and don't want to be without it. I am in the garden first thing on most days. I enjoy watching the sunrise and checking out the new growth. When I didn't have a place to garden then I used buckets so I could plant and grow vegetables and flowers. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Project of the day is paperwork. I'm still looking for missing 1099R which is prompting me to go through all of 2025 papers one at a time in the hopes it is stuck to the backside of another paper. Yesterday I shredded papers until the bin was full. I will be shredding again today. I use the shredded papers in the garden compost pile or in the fire pit. The fire pit ashes get added to the compost pile, so they end up there one way or another.

DD14 is working today. IF she decides to continue working then her schedule is Friday, Saturday & Sunday 7-2. I am 10000% okay if she decides not to work this summer. I'm leaving that decision up to her. It is definitely outside of her comfort zone so I am somewhat surprised that she is wants to. Ms I Don't Like Change is showing signs of being okay with change.

DS17 brought home another vehicle project. OF COURSE HE DID. I told him last night that I was going to enforce the 20 wheel limit. He started counting his wheels which lead to him pleading his case to keep them all. He continues to have 1-6 friends here most every evening. All these vehicle projects give them something to gather & do together.

Joined Nancy in painting - two small indoor plastic pots in "thistle" green of the leftover outdoor paint so they sort of disappear, don't look so "plastic". So far, so good, and one looked fine in photo I sent to ddil of ds' gift to the two of us of tulips. (oops, found out I'd been crediting ddil with ds' choice - she got the same gift). I'd put one of the violets into the newly painted pot beside the forcing vase. Tulips turn out to be red, all blooming now.

Being Saturday is one of the reasons, Cathy, we probably will stay home today. Everywhere we might like to go will be quite populated, I'd imagine. Glad dd27 and I got to the plant nursery yesterday afternoon. The place seemed ready for company without having much yet.

I realized last evening that a tag in dd27's new plant pot was the wrong one. I remembered what I'd said about the plant when we first saw it, searched for the words I'd used then instead, and there it was. She actually has a new hybrid oddity that I think is even more fun for her. It can only be propagated by cuttings, though - the seeds of a hybrid will not work. Sent it on to her with a photo taken under the porch light, lol, so she could remember it as she was reading.

Cut up a cantaloupe
My planner and card file both need some oversight.
In fact, my desk is a mess at this point - discipline, where art thou?

(Oh, hello LadyM, there you are at Desk Day, too)

Cathy I noticed some garden centers open earlier than today here in New Brunswick. What I did note yesterday was all the RVS and campers heading to camp grounds and many ice cream shops open today. Long weekend for me but have to work Monday. I don't garden as I live in an apartment.

Br-r cold wet it rained and is now windy out.
Glad for my heat today!
Me not in the garden today as I do not have to water.

I have been setting up a planner with more of a fun focus for summer.
Pulled & put away books and planners etc. not in use out of the living room.
Did up a few rows of knitting.

Seems like a good day to bake bread... just sayin'

LadyM if you have any papers held together with a paperclip, check to see if that form has gotten under the paperclip at the back of the group of papers. It's one reason I despise paper clips. If someone puts a paperclip on papers that they have to give me, I immediately remove the paperclip.

Dh and I need to get moving. We ended up having a big breakfast and then we both laid down and fell asleep.

Good afternoon!

I got the grocery list done and the order placed. They had a slot at 1:30 today, so we'll be doing that. Definitely preferable to some of our other choices, as DH has a hockey game tonight and graduation tomorrow. (I guess this past week was senior exams after all.) It is threatening rain here. I should go out to the car and put the seats down before I have to stand in the rain and do it.

A trip to the garden center, or at least Home Despot, is in order here, too, but it will probably have to wait until Monday due to the aforementioned events. I want to get planter boxes and soil to plant those flowers on the porch railing, and we need to get new smoke alarms. We've got one giving the "end of life" chirp, which can be silenced for a couple of days but then will recur. Ooh -- I think household hazardous waste collection is going on, so it's a good time to dispose of the old alarms (I think they count as hazardous waste). If they are hazardous waste and it's not our local collection time, I will have to check with the county to find out where to get rid of them and might have to go far afield.

Girls' night last night was nice. I found something on the menu even though I'm not a taco fan. The other ladies expressed their envy -- I ordered a bowl and had a fork, whereas three of them were trying to get their mouths around the huge burritos. (The woman who was hosting had been there before and ordered tacos, which were easier to eat.)

That's pretty much all the news around here. I hope you find that missing 1099 soon, LadyM! Can you get a replacement if necessary?

Have a great afternoon, everybody!

The mockingbird eggs have hatched in the garden asparagus ferns!! I can only get a 2 second look at the nest before the bird start dive bombing me. They are fiercely protective of the newly hatched babies which makes me happy.

I've made a pot of my favorite soup and have it simmering now. The soup is never made the same but tends to be protein & vegetables. This time the soup has 6 varieties of meat plus eggs. There are 5 vegetables in the soup - tomatoes, spinach, cabbage, peppers, onions. I open the spice cabinet and add random things until it tastes "just right"....according to my taste buds.

Did you know that fabulous will instantly kill ants? I discovered this when i saw small ants in the kitchen and grabbed a nearby spray bottle and used it on them. The quart size spray bottle contained 99% water with a tablespoon or so of Fabulous.
