Starfish belong to a large group of marine animals known as echinoderms. Also known as ‘Sea Stars’, they are usually seen in shallow water..

despite their name, they are not related to fish at all. Starfish belong to the group of marine invertebrates which also include sea cucumber, sea urchin and sand dollar.

Starfish don’t have a brain, or even blood! In fact, they use filtered sea water to pump nutrients through their nervous system instead.

Starfish might look small, but they can weigh up to an impressive 11lbs.

The average lifespan of a Starfish is an impressive 35 years. Usually, large Starfish species tend to live longer than their smaller counterparts

There are around 2,000 species of sea star
They can live in a variety of different climates, both warm and cold, and can be found everywhere from the Indian and Pacific Ocean to tje local waters of the UK.

Although starfish are usually pictured as having five arms, there is a group of less common species that have more than five – and some of them can grow as many as 40!

Starfish only live in salt water, a d will.doe.im.feesh.water, so are only found in the ocean.

They are able to regenerate so if they lose a limb, they have the ability to grow a replacement limb – although doing so can take up to a year.

Starfish like to eat clams, shells and mussels – and when they capture prey, they have tiny suction cups they use to grab hold of their food. When they eat, their stomachs exit their mouths to digest the food, and re-enters the body when they’ve finished eating!

Good morning everyone and happy Sunday! Happy Pentecost / Whit Sunday, to those who celebrate.

We won't be going anywhere today, as all the roads are closed due to some run that's taking place. . It's an annual event, but IMHO they should have been more sensitive about the timing, and held it next weekend, not when a major church festival is taking place.

However, I'm going to make the most of the extra time.this morning, and strip the bed right down, wash the protectors.for the mattress and pillows,.and give the mattress itself a.good.hoover.

DBIL (he is D again now he has left!) is on his way home., so I'll probably have a grumpy DH today, coming.doen.from his weekend of fun. Today is supposed to be beautiful, but hot again, (maybe up to 30C) so my aim is to get as much done as possible while it's still early and relatively cool!

Thanks for the start, kittykatt. Sorry for the road closings. I see we're weather twins, and this unusual heat is a good thing after many wet months but maybe difficult to bear ? Very sensible SHEM;

Totally not CUOP. Didn't have time to get bored at payroll, lots to do at home, and I have started this Ken Follett novel MrNG offered me for Christmas (the Circle of Days) and I can't not read some each day, so I have things to catch up on.
Very hot days, the weather reminds me of when we lived in the south of France until 8 years ago (give or take a few days, actually) and it made us crazy to have to stay indoors most of the day due to the heat from May till August.
Yesterday was busy with kids sports in the morning, then we mostly stayed indoors in the shade and I wasn't much productive but I needed some slack.

check today's menus and get started - better use the oven while it's not too hot yet

wash winter stuff to have it dry in the heat in the afternoon (winter coat, some jumpers maybe)

cook some pasta, grill some peppers, for lunchboxes
have the kids do their homework
check with DS10 he has everything for his school 5-day trip starting June 1st

kittykatt, those runners will not have good weather for running at almost 30C!

I would have gone with either sea otter or seal for the weekend, because both are super cute (did you know that sea otters hold hands to prevent themselves from floating away in the swirling sea while they sleep?), but I didn't know that starfish live so long, so there's always something to learn!

Party yesterday was fun. Smallish gathering, only three women myself included, but I've know the guys for close to twenty years, and lots of interesting topics were discussed. Drank too much wine, but I managed to dissolve it with enough water so that I don't feel bad today. DH has been having some stomach pain lately and thinks it might be gallbladder related, so he opted to be the designated driver and stay away from alcohol, which worked just fine for him (non-alcoholic beer mixes are a big thing here, and he actually enjoys them even more than regular beer).
It's gonna be a hot day again, DH is oiling the pool deck, but I think there's gonna be a fight with the kids who will want to get IN the pool I have some seedlings to take care of, and in the evening I need to spray the roses against black spots. And do all the preps for the week to come - DH will be gone Tue+Wed, and my work calendar is not looking too good

The pouring rain slowed down to a drizzle. There are a lot of little branches, maple keys, leaves down. It will need to wait till it's dry out there.
It is supposed to get up to 21 C - so we have hope that the furnace can stop working

I have a class this morning. Will take ddog out after (it's supposed to stop raining by then)
Need to do some stuff here , then, I'll pick up DGD to drive her to her class:)
I definitely want to bake some muffins today. (Strawberry rhubarb)

trissie glad you had a good time. i'm interested in non-alcoholic alternatives in parties, I often find myself being the only one not drinking alcohol and people must find me boring or something, I would love to have something different to bring to the next neighbour party which is next Friday - it's now a nation-wide event La Fête des Voisins, and the neighbours here take it very seriously every year . I was actually thinking about a kind of a large raised dough thing with cheese, and reading about your foccacia makes me think I may add onions.

It's now too hot outside. I will brave the heat to go to my car, open one window so it doesn't turn into a solar oven, and now it' s mostly indoors tasks - if the kids let me.
They have no school today, due to Pentecost Day, the MOnday following Pentecost used to be a public holiday but our ex President Sarkozy (may he rest in jail) decided employees would work that day to bring more money into the state coffers. MrNG will be home to keep an eye on them.
