Dorothea Sharp (1874 – 17 December 1955) was a talented British artist. She was best known for her beautiful landscape paintings. She also painted many natural scenes of children playing.

Dorothea Sharp was born in Dartford, Kent, England. She started her art training when she was 21 years old. She used some money she got from an uncle to attend the Richmond art school. This school was run by C. E. Johnson.

After that, she studied at the Regent Street Polytechnic art school. Famous artists like George Clausen and David Murray admired her work there. Later, she traveled to Paris, France. In Paris, she first saw the paintings of Impressionist artists. She was especially inspired by Claude Monet. This experience greatly changed how she painted. She started using a bright, free, and spontaneous style. She continued to use this style for the rest of her life.

In 1903, Dorothea joined the Society of Women Artists. By 1908, she became a full member. She even served as the vice-president for four years. She also became a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1907. In 1922, she joined the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.

Sharp showed her art at The Royal Academy for many years, from 1901 to 1948. In 1933, she had her first solo art show at the Connell Gallery. This show was a big success! Harold Sawkins, who edited The Artist magazine, called her "one of England’s greatest living woman painters."

During the 1920s and 1930s, Sharp traveled around Europe to paint. She visited places like Cassis in France. She also painted in England, in towns like Bosham and St Ives, Cornwall. In St Ives, she met another artist named Marcella Smith. They became lifelong friends. In 1928, Sharp was made an honorary member of the St. Ives Society of Artists.

Dorothea Sharp passed away on December 17, 1955. She was 81 years

Good morning everyone and happy Saturday!

Dogged, WTG assembling your chair. I'm glad it's every you hoped for in a chair :D

Gma, that meal was delicious! Emptying your DMums house sounds an enormous task (and I'm sure there's the emotional aspect as well!) but "one bite at a time" will eventually.get you there. Our library has a rail of donated coats for people who dont have a coat to come and help themselves - no questions.asked. (It also has a beauty / hygiene bank where people are encouraged to donate essential supplies, a d also items that would make someone feel a bit more special).

Laura, that was a lovely.story about the cat distribution system at work!😺

Today DH is going to be volunteering.down at the heritage steam railway. The forecast has changed over night, and today is now supposed to be cooler with sunny spells, which suits both of us. :D

I've gone off list this morning, so I have several procrastaccomplishments (™ Dogged! :D ). I've cleared out and decluttered the bottom of my wardrobe (it very quickly becomes a gloryhole with all kinds of "stuff"), and hung moth protectors in the wardrobes and drawers. I've finally placed my order from M&S (I had to find.something small, in order to qualify for free postage, so picked a pair of silicone food tongs which DBIL recommended months ago,. and DH thought it was a good idea, but nothing happened. They were less than I would have had to pay for postage, so it's a win-win..) , and had a lengthy consult with a.Clinique rep, who definitely did not have English as a first language. Long story short, I need some more sunscreen, but the description and picture on the website.didn't match each other, and I needed to be sure I was buying the right thing!

What a fine SHEM about happiness! John Harrigan was a church planter and gospel mission trainer, but I first misspelled his last name as Harrington when I wondered who he was. John Harrington (1561-1612) was an English courtier, apparently a godson to Queen Elizabeth 1, and was the inventor of the very first flush toilet, which was installed in her palace. The origin of the slang term "John" for the toilet. My goodness what Google knows!

I spend 4 hours visiting dfBS at the hospital last night, getting home about 1130pm.
Heading outside first to water my plants now, then quickly change clothes and head to the college reunion activities.
