Re: Beryl Cook Sunday
Beryl Cook, OBE (10 September 1926 – 28 May 2008) was a British painter best known for her original and instantly recognisable paintings. Often comical, her works pictured people whom she encountered in everyday life, including people enjoying themselves in pubs, girls shopping or out on a hen night, drag queen shows or a family picnicking by the seaside or abroad. She had no formal training and did not take up painting until her thirties. She was a shy and private person, and in her work often depicted flamboyant and extrovert characters very different from herself.
Beryl Cook, Tea in the Garden
Cook admired the work of the English artist Stanley Spencer; his influence is evident in her compositions and bold bulky figures. Another influence was Edward Burra, who painted sleazy cafés and nightclubs, although, unlike Burra, she did not paint the disturbing aspects of her scenes. She had an almost photographic memory. Although widely popular and recognised as one of the best-known contemporary British artists, Cook was never accepted by the art establishment.
Since her death in 2008, Beryl's son John and granddaughter Sophie have run the official Beryl Cook website providing insights into her life.

Re: Beryl Cook Sunday
Good morning everyone and happy Sunday! I'll confess I cheated with today's artist, as there isn't a single "S" in her name,
but I wanted to share her unique style.
Today will be church this morning, but I'm not seeing DF E today, as she isn't feeling.well. This afternoon I need to sort out the sign up sheet and menu choices for next month's parish lunch, and sow my Virginia stock ( if it arrives!) . This is an experiment, as I've no idea of they'll grow happily in the space vacated by some of the forget-me-nots, but the seeds are so e.of the heaviest around, so Ive not got much to lose!

◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕
Kittykatt, thanks for the start. As there's no day starting with B or C we would never had known about Beryl Cook
Lovely paintings ! I wouldn't put them on my walls, myself, but I can see why you find her style worth mentioning. I just googled Virginia stock, looks lovely, wishing you a successful experiment. It seems they are very fragrant, our next door neighbours on the left have a garden with many fragrant flowers, it's a pleasure to walk by their fence after a summer rain.
Totally not CUOP, busy week, Friday night was Neighbours' party, Saturday morning was kids sports, Saturday afternoon is both catch-up and slack-time, so I'm only now trying to get things done in a proper order.
Ds10 is leaving tomorrow morning (departure at 6.30am) for a five day school trip in the Loire valley with two castle visits and other interesting activities.
Priorities are getting his bag ready, making sure he can sleep early tonight - he will probably be stressed up. Also the tax deadline is on Thursday and I barely started gathering the files we need, I need to make time in the afternoon for quiet focus...
And it's Mother's Day here, but I don't think anyone will think about it, and anyway I don't really mind ( in France it was created by maréchal Pétain who was head of the Vichy government under German occupation during WW2, making friends with German leaders and trying to glorify the Nazi values in a French motto "Travail Famille Patrie", Work, Family, Fatherland - not a good memory...) Even if it's nice to get acknowledged as a parent I don't need a special celebration day.
TADAs
late in bed, checked news, email
had tea
check on the garden, to see if we have both male and female zucchini flowers, but they're all male so can't be fertilised "by hand"
TODOs
eat something
if the house stays quiet, get a start on tax prep
where is the laundry, is there anything else to wash
get started on DS10's packing

Good morning!
Happy Mother’s Day, French!
Interesting art, kittykatt, thanks for going outside the box and sharing with us.
Woke at 3, dd1 not home, her hs reunion was last night, waited til 4 to message her, is she ok? her dog has been alone inside since 10am… apparently she got dd2 to let dog out at midnight when dd2 got home from her own socializing. But what do I know, I’m just the one they come to when they want something and don’t want to pay for it. It’s 6 now and she’s still not home, she didn’t answer two texts but she did pick up the phone when I called. I guess all is well. Grown kids are just too much.
I’m still wide awake so I’m going to let the dogs out, get a shower, and cook breakfast for dh and myself.

Re: Beryl Cook Sunday
Good morning/good afternoon,. FFB and Bama!
FFB, I m glad you approved the choice of artist.
Like you, I do t think I would actually want any of her painting ls on the walls, but it makes me happy when I see them.
IIRC, the female.flowers.on the courgettes.wait to appear until the male flowers are well and truly ready for them, so as your plants are producing plenty of male flowers,.I would expect the "girls" to make an appearance soon.
Bama, I'm sorry your DDs have been so inconsiderate, especially as there's a dog involved.
Today we celebrated.Trinity Sunday at church, and I'm now home again having coffee with DH. Lunch is in the oven. Today's menu will be: roast chicken, roast potatoes, gravy, tender stem broccoli,. carrots and green beans, followed by coffee crème with raspberries and cream.
