Happy Anniversary to
Harriet and HRH! Have a fun day!
I think that spreadsheet is just fine. I remember my 7th and 8th grade home economics teacher showing us how to make a chart to figure out how to get a big meal all done on time. So many minutes for this or that, so start at this time or that time. I still do that but now it's all in my head. In my younger days I did write it all out. Now I strive to just get as much prep and stuff done ahead of time and then time the actual food. I've picked up tricks along the way. A ham can be done in an electric roaster pan; mashed potatoes can be done 30-40 min ahead of time and put in the crock pot on warm. Stuff like that.
Oh, important thing, keep a good amount of space clear on a counter, have carving knives or electric knives set out and serving dishes and hot plates. Assign one man to each meat. They seem to like doing that chore!
Last time I did a big company meal, I set up the card table out of the way and put all the big serving plates / bowls on there out of the way. That worked nicely, will do that again.
Do not know yet if I will be making Thanksgiving here or if we are going to niece's. I wish my family would figure out what they were doing.
LadyM, how does a dr. say his spine is ok without looking at the xrays? Maybe he's got some 6th sense..... Young girls these days mature early, I hadn't heard boys do it too. Maybe it will go slowly...
I don't know how you gals get all the stuff done you do. One thing added to my schedule throws me for a loop. What does that even mean, anyway? Today I had to go to different supplier to pick up something for DH. Drove all around that area for the first time in a couple years. Amazed how much that place has filled up with businesses. We used to be a sleepy coastal town.
Then I went to bank and Sams. That took a bunch of time as I couldn't find what I went for and that's a big place to wander around in. Today is the membership meeting at church with pot luck before. I don't understand what they're doing. They allotting 30 minutes for the pot luck. It'll take most of that to get our plates filled. Maybe they're having it in the same place and we're eating while the meeting happens? Sounds dumb to me.
Anyway, I had to pick something easy and fast. I made coleslaw from a huge bag of already chopped up stuff and I made my own dressing. And I cut up 2 cooked chickens - which were not cooked enough so some of that went into the oven for a while. I hope the meeting goes well and DH does not get on a tangent about something. He's not happy with their plans and I'm a bit embarrassed, cause he didn't like the last 3 things they did either. I think he's got a reputation and I just want to crawl under the table.
