We're going to have to acknowledge the calendar! It is pointing the way!
Yes, there's already chat again about decorating for Halloween, and about parties, costuming, a month ahead!
If you're really on your game this year, maybe you're ALREADY looking at a holiday plan/calendar you enjoy and may have on hand.
We certainly miss our own CEO's site "Organized Home" on which she hosted the venerable Holiday Grand Plan (by Katie Leckey), The House and Holiday Plan, formerly known as The Houseworks Holiday Plan, and The Christmas Countdown, specifically for Christmas planning in just 6 weeks.
If you are using your own copies/notebooks of these, please let us in on how it's going. Or, let us know any other references you may have.
Whatever plans you have, please use this forum to enjoy posting about progress or frustrations!
Don't forget that if you choose to create handmade gifts and/or decor, that right beside this thread, the Art, Craft and Needlework thread posters definitely want to hear about your creativity!
To refer to your own previous thoughts, reminders, ideas, menus, we're blessed to still be able to do that through previous Holiday Planning threads. Just scroll down the Creative Home forum topics to find 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, etc.
I'm doing the stock the freezer part of fall / holiday prep. mostly make ahead stuff.
I did some so-so chicken and am eating that now as I do yard work for less cooking.
Replacing those with rotisserie chickens I like better.
I filled up water jugs as emergency prep. focus has come up for me.
I saved up juice jugs this summer got em out of the shed and the
soda jugs from the kitchen and filled em with water.
I have two ice cream buckets I will put with them for hand washing / sponge bath stations.
I got some powdered drink mixes from my dson for my birthday so that can be used.
I have been buying one ahead. LIke an extra can of soup or whatever.
Today I learned I can donate $ to hurriciane relief at my local Wal Mart and that saved me time and trying to decide what to get
plus they can do the bulk thing and get it where it's neaded. Luv that!
Got an extra biscuit mix like cheddar ones a Red Lobster have.
There was a diff flavor got that too.
Might be great for pizza crust.
Got a cake mix.
I made up some zucchini bread last month and froze it up.
The berry cobbler that I had frozen was great for the crew that came for the gate install.
Replaced it with the apple peach one this month.
I tried a new coffee pod flavor blueberry and it's my new favorite!
Fall fun card is fire pit Friday when ever they lift the burn ban.
I have some things I have set aside for that it will take more than one time to use it all!
After gathering a couple things to go with my "leaves" top for my Halloween costume, I am pleased. A green wool, brimmed hat with a sort of curvy point at the top rear, and a garland with little pretend mushrooms and pine needles to go around it as a band. I'm going to be a garden gnome! The hat was too large for my head, but no worries, it fits just right when I wear a claw-type hair clip.
I bought a bunch of multiple-color pens with monster-head ends for treats. HRH has some of the bite-size chocolates and some Little Debbie individual items, so we're set. I don't really see myself making all those homemade treats again this year, although it was cute.
Three of the grandchildren want to dress for Trick or Treat this year. So, it looks like we have at least this year of silly fun left before they decide they are too old. Only dgdC has confided in me - she will either be a Ninja or a ball player. Since she IS a ball player, I don't see how that's much of a draw, but I'm just glad she wants to enjoy the fun of it.
Dd44's two boys who want to have costumes actually got their mother to take them to a Halloween shop, so they should be interesting.
Update on the r lob. biscuit mixes my stomach could not tolerate them.
Same for the blue berry coffee pod flavor and the peach cobbler.
Also pumpkin pie itsthespices.
no salsa or guac either.

Went to bland foods and got better.

I got inspired by Diane in Demark vids.
I also have started to work on my Dec. holiday planner & lists.
I sorted out my holiday totes.
Have tried on the holiday clothing only one tee shirt will not fit.
The ugly sweaters to yea!
I have tried & tested the lites and they work.
Got out the decor items and have them sorted out tree & lites on a desk in the basement for when they go up.
Food containers on the table down stairs in the rec. room. / brought them up.
Cmas mugs & containers for snacks that do not break and some plastic ones with trees on em have lids.
Half of the cups are upstairs now.
And cookie tins that can be used.
I will be bringing them up in the next few weeks when I do my daily walk about in the basement.
The nativity set and barn will come up too. Done.
It is still in the storage room. It is out with the other decor items now.
These are going to be part of my steps as I fetch some.
I unloaded the totes I am NOT lugging them up the stairs.
So I will figure out where they can go a bit at a time.
The tee that does not fit can be market bag. Made that.
One year I gave some of the sweaters out at church several wanted them and
could change up to different ones for this year's ugly sweater Sunday! LOL!
This year coats will be going and some shirts possibly.
Everything is upstairs now except the small tree less than 2" tall.
So maybe if you are in a church or group maybe you can do a swap.
dsons s/o is going to do a gift wrap swap!
Lots of good ideas in there, Nancy. Gift wrap swap? That would be cool.
We had a minimal Christmas this year because there was so much to do and plan for my health. HRH asked me not to decorate because of his concern that there would be so much to do to UNdecorate when I didn't feel well. That made sense, of course, although it also made me pout some. He sealed the deal when he took the artificial tree in its box out of the house and stored it in the storage building before Christmas.
I have so little to do now on undecorating. We only had the smaller tree that stays decorated with simple balls.
That's okay. January and The New Year is a wonderful holiday time, too. January can be this great start on a good year.
When dsonil was over the other day, I told him I really want to have a much more normal Christmas next year and really celebrate - I should be downright hungry for it by then.
I'm fine that I didn't get to offer foods. Everyone understood that, even me. But not getting to wrap presents as usual, with bows and whistles, lol, - that was disappointing. Finished is better than perfect - TRUE - but by next year, I'll be craving creativity expression. So, I want to start extra creativity early.
Christmas through the year -
I'll be thinking what can I do EACH month to have creativity aimed at Christmas surprises and then stash away.
Doesn't have to be close to Christmas and doesn't have to be a certain date.
I haven't done as well with waiting until "Rudolph Day" 25th each month - just need to say any date in the month that suits me.
One part of time for ornaments/bitsy gifts/package decorations
One part of time for getting to finish line on decor quilt-y or craft-y projects
Thinking through the year with an eye to how cards can be done next year in a way that will be happy and satisfying but not drive anyone crazy, lol.
