Re: Comet Wirtanen Wednesday
Comet Wirtanen is a small short-period Juoier- family comet with a current orbital period of 5.4 years. It was discovered photographically on January 17, 1948, by the American astronomer Carl A. Wirtanen. The plate was exposed on January 15 during a stellar proper motion survey for the Lick Observatory. Due to a limited number of initial observations, it took more than a year to recognize this object as a short-period comet.
Jupiter-family comets are short-period comets that complete an orbit of the Sun in less than 20 years. Their orbits are mainly influenced by the gravitational pull of gas giant Jupiter. Jupiter-family comets are thought to orbit in the Kuiper belt. They differ from the Hamley- type comets , as the latter have orbital periods between 20 and 200 years and they are thought to originate further out, in the Oort Cloud.
Comet Wirtanen was the original target for close investigation by the Rosetta spacecraft, planned by the European Space Agency, but an inability to meet the launch window caused Rosetta to be sent to 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko instead. The diameter of Comet Wirtanen is estimated at 1.4 kilometres (0.9 mi). In December 2019, astronomers reported capturing an outburst of the comet in substantial detail by the TESS space telescope.

Re: Comet Wirtanen Wednesday
Good morning, everyone, and happy Wednesday!
Dogged , Germane looks adorable!
Laura, I don't know if you've tried a firminator on Casper? I think they do a version for a long haired dog. I use the cat version on my three, and it's good at getting out that undercoat.
L.Ann,.puzzles are fun,. especially when there's someone so you can do it together.
Gma, that is a very impressive lifespan for a washing machine!
I'm still in bed with Jude snuggled up,.and I'm planning my day. DH goes to the office, and I don't have to wait in for anyone, so my time is my own. Top of the list is a good walk (weather permitting!) and I need to clean the kitchen. I also would like some garden time, and a quick clean up of the rest of the house. DH goes away for a couple of weekends in August to stay with his DBro, so I need to think about how I'm going to spend that time. (I'm thinking of a mixture of productive things, fun things and sleeping!

Re: Comet Wirtanen Wednesday
Sitting in my garden, taking a quick break. So far, today in has turned out to be unexpectedly sunny, and pleasantly warm with a gentle breeze. I've been busy deadheading and pulling out some California poppies that have gone over. My next job will be to water the pots, and then I think it will be lunchtime.

Re: Comet Wirtanen Wednesday
That was interesting to read about the different kinds of comets, Kitty. I hadn't realized they had different origins. Glad you got time in your garden!
L Ann, what kind of camp is Little Bit doing this week? I've never been to a cat cafe'! Have fun!
Gma, thanks for asking about my mom. Yes, this is her 3rd time in hospice care. I actually like it when she's on hospice. I saw her Monday, and she seemed content but sleepy. She did open her eyes a couple times. The caretaker said that she's eating more of her meals; her snack and extra meal stash was largely untouched. Her hair looks thicker than when I'd last seen her before our travels. Interesting.
Last night, we were 4 for Tuesday dinner; AA joined us as well! But she got a flat tire while turning onto our road. She said there was a load bang, and there was a large hole when we went to investigate after dinner. She parked her car in a small business parking lot right at the corner. We all walked over after dinner clean up. Dh is very handy and led the process of trying to make her car mobile enough to get it to a mechanic. The first issue: she didn't have a spare tire.
So, dh used her tire repair kit, but the hole was just too large. Second, we tried spare tires from our cars - first dh's and then M's. Neither fit. We tried my car but were reminded that my small SUV doesn't have a spare tire because it's a hybrid. There's an enormous battery in the back where a spare tire would be.
In the end, we left the car there, and she's going to go buy a tire this morning and put it on herself. I drove her home last night, and it was 10 pm by the time I got home myself.
I'm up and dressed to jog, which I'll do pretty soon before it gets too hot. Forecast high of 88*F here today.
Today: I'm going to visit my mom tomorrow, which is the actual scheduled day. Today, I'm visiting Fable at 11 a.m. to let her out. At 4, I'm having matcha tea with payroll friend AC! I also need to get groceries and work on payroll exam prep.

I'm up and dressed to jog, which I'll do pretty soon before it gets too hot. Forecast high of 88*F here today.

Re: Comet Wirtanen Wednesday
Good morning/ good afternoon, L.Ann and Helian!
Does Little Bit enjoy camp, L.Ann? And does this camp have a theme? Iirc, the previous camp was princesses and knights?
That must have been quite a scare for your friend, Helian - I'm so glad she was safe, and among your very practical family. I had no idea hybrids didn't carry spares! That's something to remember (I think DH may be thinking about changing our car in the next few years, or even sooner .)
I'm back indoors having lunch, with a very attentive Freddie.
. Next, it's the kitchen.

Re: Comet Wirtanen Wednesday
Morning kittykat. No I haven't used furminator. In all the grooming info I've read that one actually cuts fur. There might be one similar in my box. But samoyed is never supposed to be trimmed. The hair changes sometimes when you do. He is no show dog or anything. To the point I had to work pretty hard on fixing under his collar. He sometimes gets mats behind his ears I'm going to have to cut into them to break up again. When they blow the undercoat loosens in clumps and once u get into it it comes out by the handful. He looks a little lumpy right now cause the top of his back is good but soon as I get where it comes out he moves. I might have to invest in a grooming arm and harness. I should get a blower too. Grandma was a professional groomer and show breeder. Dad got all her brushes but him current little maltipoo has such fine hair he kept the brush that works for her and gave me the rest.
Gma did you find shoes for mom? Hope you got some rest too.
Doggedly I will have to see if I can get a good pic of Casper later and then find my app and try again.
I should do some things this morning especially kitchen. If only it were just dishes in the drying rack. My island is a collection hot spot. I usually have soaking pans on the counter and really it takes just a few minutes to put everything away.
I was watching a therapy theology episode yesterday. Actually listening on my walk.. about why we don't do what we should. Like saying yes when we say no. Or habitually doing something when we know we shouldn't. Mine is knowing all the how tos of I should make a habit of taking supplements but fighting it. Or doing what dh says is mindless putting things back when you use them. I know.. I need to train myself to put stuff back and take 5 more minutes of actually putting everything away and finish the cleanup a bit. Living room looks better but the vacuum is in the middle of the room... why do I do that? I'll have to do some thinking about that.
I have to figure out my day today and remember not to stress about what all I should get done before I leave. No one is going to stay at the house so I don't have to do bedrooms. Just leave it tidy. Make sure I don't run out of pet food. And deal with whatever the plans end up for digging and mom care and who knows.
Priority list
Basic routines
Kitchen clean
Deal with too much leftovers in the fridge
Stock up pet food
Connect with the girl who said she would look after critters
Jars and berries for dd
