Autumn 2025 in our Cardfiles

Post by Harriet »

As the leaves start to turn for most of our locations, getting our hands in to the 3x5s (or 4x6s, or computerized method of cards, etc.) gives us the assurance that we DO know "What's Next"! The wonderful certainty of "There's a card for that" :) is especially comforting when the soft summertime is over. We can face the busier days and maybe some higher social expectations of November, even December. We have our cards!

We have the "Appreciation" thread :) above as a sticky - please add Brilliant Theory to that with even more profound thoughts!

Here's a place for the Practicality of what's on your cards right now, what's helping, how far you're getting with them on a daily, weekly basis, etc.

Are you using paperclips, post-its, colors, stickers, etc. to physically remind, Skip with Intention?

Are you employing the digital, the hip-pocket, the portable ideas?

How much of your card reliance is Cleaning and Decluttering and how much do you also file the "Everything" of life?

Do tell!

the only time I really do well in my home is when I work on my card file dailies, weeklies and monthlies as well as my focus days and weeks. - blessedw2

I may not actually follow my cards — life just gets in the way a lot around here — but if I didn’t have the cards, I’d never keep up with anything! - lucylee

I'm anticipating the arrival of a new card file box! - Nancy

There is something about completing the cards that brings joy to the day. Experiencing that good feeling will become addictive. Consistent success brings results quickly. - LadyM

Hi, blessed. I'm smiling at "tag" and your fun outdoor work with bulbs, fountain, compost.

I thought I'd kinda "show" parts of what I'm looking at every day, even if it's a little at a time in posts.

Here's the Morning Daily Card from "Organized From the Inside Out", P and P's system I use (grouped chores on a card).
They printed this outline and suggest customizing it:

Get Up on Time
Personal Grooming
Make Bed
Empty Dishwasher
Eat Breakfast
Write a Journal Card
Follow Your Weekly Plan

_________________________________________________

Here's how I customize that Morning Daily Card for me - what I actually have printed as an everyday ongoing card to turn.
(for this and a few other cards I typed on computer, printed on white, and cut out in a shape to glue on color card)

Make bed, picking up any stray clothes for laundry
Laundry - begin today's load and start putting away any dry clothes
Wash dishes (gather from other rooms) and put away clean dishes
Drink water (one two-cup glass), have fruit
Pick up in the front rooms

This reflects that I don't have a dishwasher right now so am attending to dishes more than once a day, and that I have a Mid-day Daily Card on which I have "Follow Weekly Plan". Also, I choose their option of journal format in the evening like diary entry. Usually, I do that in shorthand in planner. Personal Routine is another card.

About Today - the cards are helping.
Post-it note for appt could be removed, yay.
but paperclip (for skipping or postponement) had to go onto the Errand Day Card for next time because scripts weren't ready. :roll:

Maybe next post I can "show" Mid-Day Daily Card. Btw, there are also daily cards with grouped tasks explaining/suggesting "Laundry" and "Kitchen" and "Miscellaneous Pet Clean-up", for each of which P and P didn't specify a time of day. (Right now in our house, HRH does Pet Clean-Up.)

Inside this week b/c of heat wave got D's & BWP current just dusting left to do. :mrgreen:
Idea I shared with some one this week for a tracker after five stars put a sticker on the card.

Bought Cmas lites not sure if I"ll use em or gift em! LOL!
Got a great deal on em at a yd. sale.
Some ideas are tomato cages upside down with lites around em. However I have no front outside plug.
Could do an angel if I feel creative that's a possibility for inside.

There are craft projects awaiting... but sewing soze is stuffy so shorter cooler days are coming for that.
I have a mental list of things I do in the next season move patio furniture and cushions.
Clean out bird waters, did some of those today paring back before the rainy season, others still have water out.

:idea:
I have been restocking the pantry and getting fall menu items I like but it's too hot to cook now.
So I've been filling the bare nekkid freezer the past few weeks.
Meat pies bread 3 & pizza dough 2.
Meat pies are in stock so I got some and added other favorite kinds in the mix.

Soups will be coming soon I have plenty of jars to use and freeze em up for me in smaller amounts.
I use glad peanut butter jars I've washed.

I did buy and plant fall bulbs to bloom in the spring daffs. & tulips.
You have to get them when you see them they go fast here.

Add a Card / 5 healthy habits to focus on this season .
This was some of my journaling this week.

My grand daughter is gardening and canning this year the one that just had a baby.

I do best, I think, with a list, (sorry, Harriet) -- but I need the cards to help me make the list.
For example, I had 15 items on my list for this weekend, and I have done all but 4 1/2 of these. However, I also did 2 of the items that were on the "next week" list.
(The other night, I did a brain dump and prioritized all this stuff that has been nagging at me.
I also returned to my weekly checklist, reasoning that if I was lusting after a $24 monthly checklist, I should show that I can use my own weekly list first!

My checklist is divided into three sections for Daily items:
Morning
Weigh/record/drink water
5 minute stretching exercises, tidy bed
Bible reading
S2S, make-up
Brush teeth
Begin some productive task (usually one of the daily/weeklies, but I give myself credit for other have-to things, like take dmom to doctor)
Post office/errands
Mid-day
PUPA in main area of the house
Daily/Weekly (Laundry, Vacuuming, Cleaning bathrooms)
Monthly/Zone
Extra Project/Paperwork (This is almost always undone, to be honest.)
Supper -- S/S kitchen
Talk to dmom (I don't talk to her everyday, but this helps me see if I've neglected her too long.)
Hobby? (Play piano, work on scrapbooks, photos, writing) This is also almost always undone.)
Bedtime
Lay out clothes, put water at bedside
Check cards/calendar
Wash face
Take bedtime meds
Brush teeth
Did you --
Walk 15 minutes?
Fast after 8:00 pm?
Record gratitude?
Do reading for fun?
Have family time?
-- a lot of those remain unchecked a lot of the time. Sigh. However, "family time" has been checked every day this week, and I have three checks for walking and recording gratitude.

Also on this page, have a section for WEEKLY tasks (WHB items, zone time, paperwork, groceries)...
EVERY OTHER WEEK (change sheets)
MONTHLY --
ZONE & DECLUTTER, IRONING and MENDING (Ha! Who am I kidding? Y'all can guess how often THAT gets checked.)
Check in with aunt and uncle
Bank statement
Type minutes for church meetings, teacher group meetings
Declutter magazines
Computer chores -- disc clean-up, organize pictures, back-up photos and documents

AND -- the Sunday tasks --
Allergy shots
Clean out purse
Check coupons/grocery list
Water plants
Clean out refrigerator
Refill med dispenser
Check calendar/cards
S/S Kitchen, take out trash

Monthly personal
Manicure
Pedicure
Facial Masque (which should be a WEEKLY, and I do have a card as a reminder)
Color hair

Monthly Paperwork
Photos
Journals
Magazines
Writing
Nokbox

AND... finally, at the bottom, reminders:
9 Daily D's -- Dinner, Dailies, Declutter, Dishes, Duds, Declaw the Paper Tiger, Deep Clean, Devotions
The Gift-- God, Imagination, Focus, Thanksgiving

~~~
See how nicely my life would flow from one thing to the other IF I could FOLLOW THE PLAN??? :roll: :roll: :roll:
Today, out of 24 possible check marks, I have ... ... three. And two halves, LOL. I did not put on make-up, and I did not do morning exercise.
But the night is young.
Tomorrow is another day.
lucylee, remember, I am just FINE with other people's lists. Doesn't bug me at all. :)
My allergy is to a list that expects ME to mind it. ;) Like P and P, I find that breaking down into parts makes me comfortable, efficient.
But of course, even P and P started with an initial "brain dump" (of everything onto a legal pad, wasn't it?) to make one's cards from.
There is no grouped card Dailies that happen mid-day or main part of day in P and P's "Organized from the Inside Out". In addition to the morning one, there is just Evening, which could almost be called end-of-day, so I felt the need for a mid-day Dailies card. This anchors a spot for the chores of the day beyond kitchen and laundry, PLUS hopefully time for whatever creative or home-enhancing Project is going on.
On my Mid-Day Dailies Card I have :
(brunch/breakfast)
Sort mail and get it to desk, trash can, etc.
Plan supper - make tea if wanted
Chores in rotation on Basic Weekly Plan
(lunch)
Project time
Today has been so rainy that it lent itself to cozy work.
Project time today was getting the sewing room ready for some creativity.
I've brainstormed ideas for ornaments and started "seeing" what will and won't work.
This time, weeklies already done by Sat.
Btw, I am now fully using my wooden side-by-side cardfile found at Goodwill. It could probably be called vintage, but it's not all that old. The hinges are good, which is what matters to me. I keep some post-its in there, too, with blank cards ready to use, etc.
