Re: Falstaff Friday @ TDD - C&C
So, there is no Shakespeare play beginnign with F, but there is Sir John Falstaff, who makes it to three plays!
Sir John Falstaff is a fictional character who appears in three plays by William Shakespeare and is eulogised in a fourth. His significance as a fully developed character is primarily formed in the plays Henry IV, Part 1 and Part 2, where he is a companion to Prince Hal, the future King Henry V of England. Falstaff is also featured as the buffoonish suitor of two married women in The Merry Wives of Windsor. Though primarily a comic figure, he embodies a depth common to Shakespeare's major characters. A fat, vain, and boastful knight, he spends most of his time drinking at the Boar's Head Inn with petty criminals, living on stolen or borrowed money. Falstaff leads the apparently wayward Prince Hal into trouble, and is repudiated when Hal becomes king.
Falstaff has appeared in other works, including operas by Giuseppe Verdi, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Otto Nicolai, a "symphonic study" by Edward Elgar, and in Orson Welles's 1966 film Chimes at Midnight. The operas focus on his role in The Merry Wives of Windsor, while the film adapts the Henriad and The Merry Wives. Welles, who played Falstaff in his film, considered the character "Shakespeare's greatest creation". The word "Falstaffian" has entered the English language with connotations of corpulence, jollity, and debauchery.

So, Friday, we meet again!
The cold hit with full force. I think I am running at least low fever, so I foresee some tylenol hot drink in my near future! I no longer have toddlers but sick days are still reserved for worse than just a cold!

Dogged, and what will you be celebrating with that tortier? I think the baker was overstressed and exhausted, but it's still not an excuse to be rude!

Re: Falstaff Friday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off. How ingenious to use Falstaff for Friday!
I hope your "magic potion S" kick in a D your cold starts to feel.better quickly..I think Gma and her family.are celebrating her DSister's birthday, although I'm not sure which sister!
I think it's Canadian Thanksgiving soon, (this weekend?) so that maybe why Dogged wants to buy a torbiere - I think she's going to dinner with some friends?
Gma, so glad that all of you are together, and that hospice are being so helpful and supportive.
The house is quiet, as ever is still asleep. Matilda woke full of beans, but I've given her a snack and lots of oers and head rubs, and she, too, has gone back to sleep. I have the osteopath this afternoon, so I'm hoping for so e time in my garden this morning. I really need to get hose pictures cleaned and regularly g on the staircase, (they're still stacked in the la dung!) but that can wait until it's dark if necessary. Other than that,, I'm hoping for a quiet day, with nothing going wrong. l've had enough domestic excitement ( both here and next door) for one week! I also need to go through what I've bought for Christmas ( there were some good offers in the nonperishables, so I stocked up on them this week) and find somewhere to hide them so they are "out of sight, out of mind" , but I still remember where I've put them!

Re: Falstaff Friday @ TDD - C&C
Today's list:
Cuddles on the bed with Matilda
, Jude and Freddie
QT
Physio exercises
Up, shower, personal care and dress
All cats fed
Take Freddie out? ( If he wants to go!)
Breakfast and meds /supplements -me
Rubbish down to bins
Go for my walk
Run hoover round downstairs?
Quick dust sitting room?
Garden time - can I feed pots? A little deadheading?
Lunch
Delicate /wool wash
Clean shoes
Polish bag
Fold laundry and PA
Clean sheets and towels out of the airing cupboard
Does DH have choir practice?
Cats' supper
Our supper
Bed at a reasonable time!
Extras:
2.40 pm osteopath
Gather everything I've bought for Christmas - tick off my list, and find somewhere to store everything.
I need to think about my contribution for Harvest supper at church next weekend. I've said I'll bring coffee cake,.but looking.at the sign up list, it consists entirely of rice salad ( is this the new version of the ubiquitous quiche that used to appear at every church social function?
) and cakes! Maybe I can bring something else as well? I'm glad we signed up, as MD is stressing about so few people signing up for it, and at least we make an extra two!
Garden extras:
Trim bits on hedge
Cut grass
Weed/ deadhead
Prune another rose?
Feed pots
Can I start autumn clear up in front garden, or is that still looking ok for now?

Re: Falstaff Friday @ TDD - C&C
Yes, my mother's birthday is late in May. I have a sister whose birthday is Sunday.
We're starting to sort through some of her things, to make some semblance of order. There will be things for the thrift shop/ Salvation Army that we won't be using
One df is coming to visit tomorrow at 10. Hospice nurse is coming at noon, along with the aide.
We believe that we have had a successful day.
my ds comes home Friday from a week of teaching 150 miles away.
The only Shakespeare I ever had to read was in high school. I may have seen a couple plays, but they didn't stick with me. It was interesting to learn about Falstaff, and his frequent appearances, even in some non-Shakespeare works.
2 am - bedtime so I can function tomorrow.

Re: Falstaff Friday @ TDD - C&C
Thinking of you and your adventure to the gluten free bakery today, Doggedly!
How do you keep up with all of us so well, Kitty? I hope you get your quiet day.
We added a blanket to our bed last night, L Ann. It seems to be that time of year.
Sounds like a busy day tomorrow for your mom and you, Gma. I hope the 2 am bedtime lets you get enough sleep.
Thanks for the Falstaff start, trissie! I think I've read both King Henry IV plays. But maybe I've read King Henry V instead? I've seen that play in the Kenneth Branagh film, for sure. Not sure about the Merry Wives of Windsor. I hope you feel better soon!!
Bigger accomplishments yesterday that didn't get posted: I washed the sheets AND the quilt, so, our bed is currently made with 100% clean bedding - always feels nice.
Got out fresh jammies as well. I also got the final drafts graded + half the exams. I'll finish this morning. Only 5 students -- but I'm a slow grader, and I write a significant note on the bottom of each rubric. I also got the life insurance letters in the mail to the trustee + my snail mail bills in the mail. Exercise - I worked out with the trainer, but I didn't jog. I haven't jogged for about a week. Not great. I think I'll try for a short jog today and a slightly longer one tomorrow - maybe the 5K.
Today, I'll finish grading and be at payroll 11-2ish. Or I'll leave earlier if my parking space is needed and do my last tasks at home. Other todos: a jog, buy cards, buy a little something for dd30 - her birthday is today! Drop off card + small goodie (food? Or small gift?). Work on thank yous for memorial gifts in honor of my mom. Tame the MBR cedar chest - I've got a pile of stuff on it. Maybe - start washing my mom's stuff to give away. Then, dh and I have dinner reservations at 6:45 at a favorite downtown restaurant.
Next:
- payroll: finish grading exams
- payroll: send to students (1) final draft rubrics (2) final exam rubrics (3) final draft word doc for 1 S who doesn't seem able to use GC
- back exercises
Later:
- s2s and self care
- make the bed
- reclaim kitchen
- some qt
- make a lunch
- gather things and otd
- 11-1 payroll: teach IW D14 (mostly play language games)
- 1-1:40 payroll: end of session good bye party
- eat lunch at payroll
- payroll: review next AI Writing course pack - any changes to make??
- payroll: start end of session tasks

Happy birthday to DD, helia! When will you get a chance to celebrate?
enjoy your quiet-er day, L.Ann!
gma, how nice that you can have a big family celebration for your sister!
kittykatt, do the wall-hanging pictures in your house have cats on them?
Done with work for the day. Some was frustrating (a bit problem threatening to happen because somebody didn't run something by me in time), and some satisfying - I managed to summarize 100 pages of applicable EU-level legislature into 6 paragraphs covering the "who, when, how, control mechanism" in an internal guideline. Re: Falstaff Friday @ TDD - C&C
That is definitely a super power, trissie! I don't know when we'll properly celebreate dd30's birthday. We're behind. We are celebrating J12yo in early November. We still need to do my birthday (June 27) and then S' (Sep. 27). THEN it will be dd30's turn. As you know, it is hard for us to coordinate 8 busy schedules - and J12yo's schedule is amongst the busiest, to be honest. With her robotics and swimming and soccer and music lessons. . . She is one busy kid! But we prioritize her birthday when it comes around because we all feel a child shouldn't have to wait months to celebrate their birthday. Although, she will wait 1 month this year. . .She already had a kid party at her home, though.
