Re: Maine Coon Monday
Hey, everybody!
I find DNA/genes stuff fascinating. My dad was olive skin/dark hair/brown eyes. My mom blonde hair/blue eyes. The first 2 kids - me and bro - take after my dad. The only variant is that my eye color got invaded by mom and my eyes are golden brown with a blue/green/gray rim. Younger 2 siblings take after my mom, but one with brown eyes and one with blue eyes. THEN... I married someone with blue eyes, so one son had dark gray eyes and the other brown. My blonde sister married a Hispanic, so when we were out and about town, everyone thought her kids were mine.
G has brown hair - 1 bro red hair - 1 bro blonde hair. So.. if I had enough kids, I might've ended up with a blonde one.
I'm kinda pooped. House closing went smoothly. Turns out we were next door neighbors to the seller WAY back when we first moved to the area. It was fun reminiscing. Afterwards, we ran over to the townhouse and did some more measuring and rehashed what updating we want to do just to make sure we're on the same page. G is resting and then he'll head to Indy. He'll stay overnight and fly out early to TX in the morning.
p.s. I'd like to lose enough weight that my jeans aren't cutting off my circulation.

It feels like I missed something somewhere - are you getting a new house in another state? So you're moving, as in selling your current place, or?Smile*Lee wrote: Mon Nov 17, 2025 4:53 pm House closing went smoothly. Re: Maine Coon Monday
Well, I have done pretty much nothing all day. Got caught up in online puzzle games. I'm also sporting a headache, which is something I rarely deal with.
LOL trissie! My friend S2 is blond and blue-eyed and married to a man who is half Vietnamese. Their older two boys have darker complexions and hair. But their 3rd is blond-haired and blue-eyed. AK, the father, says people sometimes have trouble matching him with his blond haired blue-eyed son!
LOL Doggedly!!
You've gotten a lot done, Bama.
Yes, a puzzle would indeed add a little variety, L Ann.
Hi Smile! Congrats on the house closing! Are you buying a townhouse in IL to stay in when you visit from your new house in NC?
It's now 5. Hmm... I have about 1.5 - 2 hours before dh is home. I think I will scan the DC, send it to the lawyer, and then go for a walk and get a few things at WF. That's something. I do have a clean lol to fold and put away. And I pampered my feet today.

Sooner than you think, Bama, LOL. I'm trying to keep a migraine at bay, so I'm planning to lie down for a bit. That will trick Germane into going to sleep in the bathroom, and then I can tiptoe by her and take the garbage and recycling down to the basement without her. I am a criminal mastermind.
Genes really are interesting, Smile*Lee. My db and I are obviously siblings, but I am lighter in skin tone and hair, and I have a big broad frame, taking after the Dutch part of my mother's ancestry. My db is darker and looks much more like the indigenous ancestors from one side or the other. Add to that that I speak with an English accent and he speaks with a French accent, and we can have quite different experiences with people.
I think that you just needed the break, helia. Recharge your batteries for your next busy day.

Re: Maine Coon Monday
It's kind of complicated. The "plan" has evolved over the course of the last 3 years. We were just going to buy a property in NC to build a base camp for hiking and camping. After G built the "barn" to house our trailers and jeeps, he realized that if he cleared the trees, he'd be able to see all the way to Mt. Pisgah and multiple ridges of mountains. Because of the view, he thought building a house there would turn it into an investment property - maybe a VRBO. But THEN....he started wanting to live there, which really has been his dream for a long time - to spend more time in the mountains.trissie wrote: Mon Nov 17, 2025 5:05 pmIt feels like I missed something somewhere - are you getting a new house in another state? BUT... after losing DS/M, Li'l H's dad, we couldn't just leave our area completely. We wanted to keep a "footprint" here, but if we did that, we needed to downsize. Our house is BIG - and there are other reasons why we need a fresh start in a new place - for everyone. I know it sounds kind of cryptic, but that's what I can say. Our tentative plan is to be here 1 week a month, weekend to weekend, because we get Li'l H for a 1/2 day on the weekend.
Finding the townhouse was wild. We saw our realtor on Wednesday, we found the townhouse on that Friday, put an in offer that night, and they accepted it on Monday! Our realtor says that we need to have our house on the market by March 1st. That will give us time to get things updated in the townhouse before we have to move in.
We're moving our furniture from our current house to the townhouse for continuity for Li'l H.
We hope that keeping a place here - a place where Li'l H will still feel like she has a place in our home here will help safeguard Li'l H's heart. God is good.
The last piece of the puzzle -- G works in Texas and in Boston - mostly Texas. He goes 1 week a month I told him that if he still wants to keep working, I'll go with him to Texas in the winter, so he doesn't have to travel so much in the winter.
Edited: We've been going to NC for over 40 years. My dad lived there for 20 which is how we fell in love with the area.

Re: Maine Coon Monday
Dogged ~ how did you get an English accent and your brother get a French one?
One of my brothers married a woman who is 1/4 Cherokee. All their kids and grandkids are gorgeous.

Re: Maine Coon Monday
Smile*Lee, my family broke up when I was nine and my db was eleven. Even though we lived in Montreal, for some reason that I can't explain, my foster parents were always British. I'm English Canadian. I've just got some tiny remnant of an accent from my various foster parents, so I've been asked if I originally came from England, and if I've been to finishing school. My db ended up in bilingual homes and in orphanage-type warehouses for boys. After we left foster care, I kept getting more and more English-speaking, ending up in Ontario, and he got more and more francophone, ending up in very French areas of Quebec. So that's our story.

Yes, Smile*Lee. He's by far my favourite relative, and I'm happy to have him in my life.
You and your DH will have a busy life traveling back and forth, but you have figured out how to stay in your dfamily's lives, get work done and live your dream life too. That can't have been easy. More power to you!
I have been taking various loads to the basement lockers and brought a few boxes back up. New projects. Germane has been very gracious in letting me go up and down on my own so that I can use two hands. Getting up stairs with Germane and a handtruck is so much harder than handtruck and cane.
