I went to Niagara Falls for lunch today. We live @20 minutes down the highway. Fun fact... dh and I got married at a tiny chapel in N.F. and spent our wedding night ("honeymoon") there as well. Because we had both been married at least twice before, it was a really, really small wedding. Dh and I, a best man, a matron of Honour, a "flower girl" and her partner at the time was the only guest. (My dh, myself, my brother in law, my sister, my daughter and her bf.) We told everyone less than 24 hours before the ceremony. We talked to dh's mom the night before and then we called her right after the ceremony.

Well... it was the best of times and the worst of times...

First -- movie reviews --
EPIC Elvis Presley In Concert -- I'll give it 4 stars. It's a little disjointed -- maybe showing Elvis in 1955 singing something, then finishing the same song on stage in Las Vegas. But it's good. I'm glad I went.

Wuthering Heights -- oh my. I'll give it 1 star. I have not read the book, I'm a little embarrassed to say, but I've got a feeling that even if one has read the book, they will barely recognize it except the two main characters are still named Heathcliff and Cathy. SMH... Since I got home I have searched and yes, there are a LOT of differences.

Next -- while I was in Next Town having a grand time... we had approximately FOUR INCHES of HAIL. The wind was so strong that it took dgd's trampoline which was anchored into the ground, and threw it about 30 feet. DS has a tree down in his driveway. Y'all can just imagine what this has done to my roof. There's a lot of what I think is gravel from the shingles on my patio and carport -- and there was still a LOT of ice in my yard at midnight, and this storm came through before 6:00 pm.
I have discovered two new leaks, and one is already dripping through the ceiling near one of the dormers that leaked before. I am just about ready to sit down and cry. I tagged my carpenter friend's wife on FB and she said he would be here in the morning. In the meantime, DS came over and put a garbage can under the drip to try to prevent any further ceiling damage.
I am at my wit's end.
Dmom said at one time that I might should have the dormers removed and quit trying to patch them up. But it has also leaked around the fireplace and one for the bathroom ceiling vents. One of the new wet spots is just in a regular spot, no break/gable or anything like that.
At any rate, I've got a million questions raging through my head -- and I sure do wish my dad were alive to give advice.
Do I use the same man who roofed it 16 years ago, even though his crew was unable to stop the leaks around the dormers after repeated attempts?
Shingles or metal?
Do I use the people dmom used, even though I have heard questionable reports from them?
Do I just need to take out a bank loan to do this or break into my CD early? I don't think this will last till October when the CD matures.pse
I am so upset... and yes, angry that dh left me with this mess. Of course, as DS said, dh didn't WANT to leave me.

CostumeLady -- I belong to the (Global) Methodist Church -- our church recently disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church. The Lenten study is just a daily reading with scripture, plus we are doing a study church-wide study during Sunday School time called "Profoundly Christian/Distinctly Methodist." It's a very good study, but also has a lot of scripture reading also. Then I have the "Misunderstood Women of the Bible" on Wednesday nights, which is only attended by two other women plus myself. So it's a lot of reading, but very worthwhile. * And today, my regular devotional reading from the Upper Room was about counting your blessings, not being so focused on what you DON'T have that you overlook what you DO have.
:D I haven't given ChatGTP a name, but I did think of it as a "he" until I started asking about the doctor's visit this time. LOL.

BTW, my paternal great-grandmother had cancer, which I have been led to believe began in her "female" organs. That's how my mother and aunts and grandmother always put it. But today, they told me that after I turn 65, I'll only need to go every other year (she may have even said every third year. And that might be only pertaining to the Pap test; she may still advise having the exam.) She does want me to have a colonoscopy but I'm going to talk to the family doctor about that before I schedule it.
I don't want to have a hysterectomy b/c my mother had one in her late 30s, prolapsed uterus, and after that, her bladder started falling. She has had at least three bladder tacks and nothing has "held." The dean of UAB's gynecology department did one and told her he had never seen anyone with tissue as "fragile" as hers. (University of Alabama in Birmingham, extremely well-respected medical school and hospital.) So I want to leave all my "parts" in place if I can, LOL. I do have one advantage over my dmom -- she had two babies vaginally, the first one (me) when she was 16 years old. I had a C-section with DS, so that part of my body has not been quite as stressed as hers. Plus, it's a running joke in our family that I have "(paternal aunt's) butt." LOL. Generally speaking, I do take after my aunt more than dmom in most health issues, so I hope that continues. Daunt is 82 and physically still does very well. She does have some memory issues.

What I do have...
a warm, safe home that is paid for
a friend who is a licensed contractor who will be here in the morning to look at this damage, fix what he can, and maybe give me some recommendations
a car that escaped hail damage
a savings account that will help financially in a few months, even if I am in tight spot for a little while
a mother who has a background in banking and is still of sound mind to give advice
a son who will get out of bed at midnight to come over and do all he can to help the immediate problem
a faith that God is going to guide me through all this and provide for whatever comes up

I guess I have a lot to be thankful for.
Tomorrow is another day.
