Coffee is absolutely necessary for the start of a good day, helia! I wish I were able to get up at 5:15, though, it would make my day much smoother (my alarm is 5:30 and I never pull myself out of bed before 5:45)
Bama, so the SHEM thing, like, you post it, when one person makes three posts in a row? I'll have to go back to yesterday's thread to get the context!

My beliefs are being tested. Just the other day, I was thinking about my attitude towards my kids' grades. Like, apparently other parents make a fuss if a kid brings a bad grade? I don't - I ask "why did you get a bad grade?" and act accordingly (like, if they got bad grade because the don't understand how to calculate square root equations or the weight of a cube made of iron, then we need to explain and review the topic - if they got bad grade because they forgot about a history test and didn't study for it at all, then we need to work on a system for recording due dates, or talk about possible extracurricular work to make up for the history grade, but no amount of yelling or grounding is going to change the grade).
Anyway, they are both likely getting D's on civics test. I'm not happy about the D's, but having reviewed their class notes and compared them to the scope of the test, I am even less happy about the education they are getting in civics, which is like super important if you want to make good, wise choices when voting and have reasonable and realistic expectations about your government. It does, however, explain some things about the society as whole! I always tend to forget that not everybody is properly educated either from school or from their own effort to learn things, and uneducated people do fall for sweet lies with bitter endings.
Anyway, I do foresee some dinnertime politic talks in the near future!

My friend/ coworker CM is the most calm and positive person I know! She's amazing!! The future looks bright for her so far; apparently, she can receive chemo and it will not affect the growing baby. Everyone totally understands why she's leaving our school. She was the academic director, though she lives in a different city now. AC will become the academic director. I will help AC, kind of like the assistant Academic Director, which was AC's title before this. I don't have a title, but that's OK with me. I'm actually not highly ambitious at this point in my life. Also, I don't want too many hours as I want to be free to travel to visit my dgbaby! And to go on other fun trips with dh.

trissie, that sounds wise regarding grades. Grades may not be a good measure of how much a kid has learned - of if they've learned the most important/ best/ (correct?) information if the teacher isn't teaching that. Civics-minded conversations with their parents might be super helpful! -- I don't think I could get up at 5:45 and function well all day.
Glad you could sleep through the storm, L Ann. DD33 is very resourceful! Did you get snow?
Ooh, that's a lot of flour, Doggedly. Are you making anything with it today? Resist the sirens!
Bama, so, do you have several wines at your house that you're sampling? Or did you go to a winery?

I got home about an hour ago - meetings and conversations from 10:30 until 2:45. I did have a break as I drove from the coffee shop to the school. LOL! I've decompressed a bit, make a Kroger order, and now I'm heading out to get some grocery items, mainly fresh produce, from WF.

Today is pretty scheduled.
10 - KS2J get together
11 - at payroll; help set up for S3 intro meeting; review slides
12 - in person lunch together; saying good bye to CM who is leaving the school (pregnant and receiving chemo for breast cancer at the same time; she lost her first baby at 18 months to SIDS - and discovered she had cancer less than a year later; the day after receiving her diagnosis, she learned she was also pregnant again. . . .)
1 - Instructor meeting; I am leading a section
2 - Do I need to meet with any teachers to try to help them?

6:30ish - host MZ for dinner

Other things:
- Can I exercise?
- Get groceries - work in progress
- Postal place?
- Set up Telegram group for IW
- Make slides for IW D1?

Next:
- WF
- put away groceries
- make bed

Later:
- make the bed
- some qt?
- exercise at gym
- WF trip
- put groceries away
- dinner: quinoa+ beans, rice, green salad
- 6:30 host MZ for dinner
- after dinner clean up
- garbage and recycling
- payroll: Telegram group
- payroll: start slide prep
- payroll: details to GC
- duolingo
- update health apps
- read??

TaDas!
- up; weighed self - same
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website
- reclaim kitchen
- back exercises
- s2s and self care
- squeegeed and wiped down shower
- gathered materials; otd late
- 10:40 - 11:10 KS2J get together
- 11:25 - 12 payroll: reviewed slide show with AC; checked the book piles for teachers
- 12-1 payroll lunch with speeches and gifts for CM - and dessert of course!
- 1-2:15 payroll: instructor meeting; I helped lead parts of it
- payroll: message to 1 teacher I was scheduled to meet with - but he left early
- more conversations at payroll
- home; decompressed a little; put away all the packages that had arrived; went through mail
- Kroger order

Just adding - we've had wintry weather today too. It was 17F this morning with 1F (-17.2C) windchill. Dh still went for a run. We've had flurries off and on all day but no accumulation. It's currently 25F (-3.9C), 15F (-9.4C) with windchill. However, there's not much wind. :)

Hello everyone!

I'm glad you're having a good time with your DD, Bama.

Helia, that's very tough for your friend, losing a child and then having to deal with cancer treatment while being pregnant. WTG getting your taxes done!

L.Ann, LOL at DD sleeping with her headphones on!

Dogged that's a lot of flour! What kind did you order (cake or bread flour?)

Trissie, I so wish my parents had been like you regarding schoolwork! If I didn't come in the top three, I was either shouted at, or they constantly stressed how "disappointed" they were. (And they overused that last tactic so much, that I ended up no longer caring if people were disappointed - I figured that was their problem!)

Today's been busy and surprisingly social. I had a long chat with Dnextdoorneighbour C, followed by an even longer chat with the first candidate for the local elections (due in May!) to come canvassing in person. I've fed Cookie jer breakfast and supper,.dealt with an anxious message from S asking if she could possibly.ask.for a parcel T was expecting today to be delivered to us? Yes, of course. Apparently it's a new battery for his motorbike. I did a.bit in my garden, but the wind was still cold, so hopefully I can get more done there tomorrow. The sitting room is clean and.tidy, and our cats have been fed. I need to spend 15 minutes on paperwork and unload the DW, then hopefully I can think about an early night.

Think about what I'm going to grow in *that* patch, which is sloping and shaded now the climbing hydrangea is gone. Montbretia at the back are fine, with supports so they don't flop everywhere, and I can keep an eye on them to make sure they dont spread into everything. There is a hardy geranium that's looking sad, but it might do better with less competition and more light? Maybe I could just sow some low growing hardy annuals and see what happens?
Buy some more pansies?
April (depending on weather!).buy geraniums (work out how many I'll need in advance!

Right the first time, with SHE-M, trissie. (SHE Motivation)
How irritating to have coworkers who leave things to the last minute and then all come to you at once.
Your dkids are very lucky to have you teach them about civics. I'm not sure where I learned it, as it was not a subject at school when I went.

I'm not sure exactly what kind of weather we were getting here, L.Ann, but I was listening to the wind during the night and today they reported a lot of power outages outside of the city. It's nice to look at from inside my apartment. :D

You know me well, Bama. No siren songs were resisted.

You are back to your busy days, helia. You are wise to decide how far you want to go in taking on extra tasks.
I'm glad that your DF is managing with all that she is facing.

It's just all purpose flour, Kittykatt. I expect that most of it will end up as bread and brownies.
Your parents inadvertently gave you a great life lesson, if you started already understanding that other people's opinions of you are their issue and that you don't have to make it yours. Even if that was not the lesson that they were trying to teach.

Tuesday
Received delivery from Costco
Put Germane’s food out of reach
Gave Germane her heart pill. Started timer.

Had a good talk with the vet about her test results.
Scrubbed out sink and basin
Washed a few basinsful of dishes
Cleaned up after dog
Wiped down rice cooker and put it away
Dried dishes and put away
Washed more
Cooked some salmon for Germane

Dogged, good luck with your appointment. Happy baking afterward.

LAnn, I hope the trees didn’t do any damage to property.

Kittykatt, you’ve had a full day.

Helia, brrr. Spring is coming and you can thaw it soon. While grieving mom, I liked to buy wine in pretty bottles but I don’t really drink alcohol lol. This is my reminder to try it and toss it, or drink it if I like it, but I usually don’t like them. And stop buying more.

Trissie, you’re a much more patient mom than most. Your kids will appreciate that.
Bama, so the SHEM thing, like, you post it, when one person makes three posts in a row?
Yep, but it was already in place when I got to the she’s so I don’t know how it started, it just stuck in my brain.

We had a good day. Dh and dd went to the courthouse with the proper form but I have to sign it which means another trip, but I have a year to do it. Dh and I will go back one day when we are running errands in that area.
I cooked corned beef hash, did my chores and got a shower while they were out. If I’d known I was needed I would have made them wait. Oh well.
Once they returned home we went to a thrift shop that has totally redone their booths so it was like walking through a new to us store. I found a pitcher to the drinking glasses I’ve been collecting and got that. Then we went to Texas Roadhouse for supper. Stopped by the dollar store for a binder for her car paperwork and I got chocolate bunnies to send back with her as I don’t know if they will be coming back for Easter. Dd left after that to head back to Tuscaloosa so she doesn’t have to rush for work tomorrow.
Now we are chilling and I’m ready for bed. 😴
♥ Wake each day expecting good things to happen! ♥
