Re: What I Ate

Post by lucylee »

Well, Indiana, yesterday wasn't QUITE so fantabulous. Around 10:30 or 11:00 I was just really feeling hungry, so I had a bunch of grapes and a bowl of dry cereal -- frosted mini wheats... * I haven't bought more! I just still had some in the box, and I figured that was a better choice than chocolate chip cookies.

I definitely think I will do better when school starts, b/c then my eating is pretty well regulated from 8:00-3:00 at least! My danger time then is right after I get home, when sometimes I want to eat everything in sight... but if I can control myself then -- with fruit or a salad maybe -- then I should be okay.
Tomorrow is another day.

H. has started tracking what he is eating off line
in a note book writing down cal. intake to stay under 1,000 a day is his goal.
He's learning a lot. He's also writing down fat. & salt amounts too I think and I
don't know what else.
The carb. cal. counting books that I had here are a great resource for this!
Sorry I've been awol p/c has been out this week.

Thursday revised

11 starch
5 fruit
4 protein
8 1/2 fat

With the new numbers yesterday is close to fantabulous.

For sure mini wheats are better than chocolate chip cookies. Each of the pillsbury cookies are 1 starch and 1.5 fat compared to mini wheats which are 3 carbs.

Have you found a cereal with less starches but you like as well as the mini wheats. Or maybe a different substitute for the mini wheats?

Glad to see you back Nancy.

It is good to see he is tracking what he eats.

1000 calories WOW I'm surprised his doctor set his goal so low.

I saw Kashi cereal ad on tv this morning, saying it had as much protein as an egg. I think I will try that.
I don't like to eat cereal for breakfast when I'm going to school b/c it takes too long -- even eating dry cereal! I'd rather have my pb crackers I can carry in one hand, you know?
But I may try that Kashi cereal. I think high protein is definitely the key to keeping my blood sugar from spiking high and low. I know everyone has that tendency to go high when eating sugar and then crash, but I am more susceptible than I like to admit. I was diagnosed as hypoglycemic in high school and I'm pretty sure my body/metabolism hasn't improved since then.
Tomorrow is another day.

lucylee I was thinking for your evening snack. You were eating mini wheats ate night. I thought you may be looking for a replacement.

Many times I will eat my cereal dry and the milk on the side. I can pick at the cereal like popcorn. I do that for breakfast and as my evening snack sometimes.

I eat cherrios - all their flavors are good for you and taste great. Even the frosted one if you are looking for the sweetness from the mini wheats.

Indiana -- you're exactly right that I need a replacement late night snack, too. (I was just thinking the protein in Kashi would probably be more than my "breakfast" which would be a plus for that, too.) But at night -- yes -- I eat the cereal like popcorn and Cheerios or anything like that would be MUCH better, I'm sure.

I know Nancy is right, the fruits or vegetables would be the best thing of all... but sometimes I just really need (or at least I feel like I need it!) something with that cracker-crunch... something in the starchy/bread/cereal group to fill me up. I tried the grapes first, and they just sorta "sat there" in my stomach -- I still had that sorta "hollow" feeling, if you know what I mean. It's hard to explain.

Nancy yes fruits and vegetables are great snacks.

lucylee I know what you mean. It is the mouth feel of something crunchy. That is why I like the cheerios they are just like popcorn except popcorn won't give you the sweetness you are looking for. The cheerios give the crunch and sweetness, they are easy to pick up and aren't messy. I agree grapes won't give you what you are looking for at night.

Another good thing about recording what you eat is to see patterns like the mini wheats at night. There isn't anything wrong with an evening snack. I have tried other cereals like chex and they don't give me what I am looking for.

I just looked up the kashi products they have some shape cereals (like cheerios, kix, etc) besides flake cereals which are hard to eat like popcorn. I think I'll try one of them next time I get cereal.
