I also have left over cabbage and brats from last night - cut up fruit
mom's nasty part of Alzheimers is out- she has been angry at me on and off for a couple days. She was angry at dd older (which is unusual). - she took a butcher knife from me by the tip and pulled it towards her. She was angry that I had to give her the peeler (earlier) instead of the knife because she was almost cutting herself. I had her non cut gloves on but it was a bit scary on how she was cutting things. She was upset bc she "has been using a knife all her life."(I ordered children's cooking non cut knives but they have not come in)
it could have gone badly.
young helper is staying until 9 but I will try to get mom in bed by 8:00 so that she could go home early.

Dh has been assisted with his shower. I finally took the time to have a shower as well after he was finished. Once again the care giver hasn't been taking care of herself the way she used to.
It's pouring rain here and 32 degrees F. If it stays above freezing I won't worry. The further below 32 it gets, the more I will worry.
Dh is watching a football game.

Twins, I don't know how you're planning to cook the brisket - I usually cook mine either in the slow cooker or a low oven, with carrots, mushrooms, onion, maybe some celery, and add some red wine , to make a nice rich gravy. I would serve this with a green veg, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings. If that sounds like too much work, then potatoes baked in their jackets or even mashed potato is a simpler alternative.
I've started taking down the Christmas decorations, concentrating on those outside as the weather was dry today.

Ah, KittyKatt, this brisket was sent to us as a holiday gift from friends. It's smoked, and pre sliced, vacuum sealed. Just needs to be heated up a bit. Normally I cook it slow, just like you suggest, in the oven with veggies.
I've been busy. I went to Whole Foods for a dozen assorted little dessert tarts for tomorrow night. They are a little indulgence. We have whipped cream, fruit, and chocolates to round out dessert. I also stopped off at grocery since I was driving past it. I had mostly done an Instacart order and used the app as my grocery list.
LadyM, you enjoy cooking and I honestly don't, especially when we've been so busy this month. And after so much eating I wanted a lighter meal. He insisted on three neighbor couples - I feel like we're not that close with one and I would have left them off. I said I wasn't cooking a full meal of sides, etc. for eight people as a dinner party. (We've added ds, so it's now nine people total.

) The compromise is that we're keeping it easy.
With drinks we'll have a baked brie in puff pastry with fig jam and crackers. (can make ahead, bakes 15 to 20 min)
Dinner is what I think of as charcuterie food but I'm setting the DR table for us to all sit together. I'm going to do brisket sliders with barbecue sauce and cheese in the oven. A buttery mixture with dijon mustard, garlic power, dry onions is brushed on the top before baking. Do ahead, except for adding the butter mixture to the top and baking for 20 min or so. With that are cut veggies (carrots, broccoli, celery and baby tomatoes) with a dip and hummus, and pickle/olive tray. Also mandarin orange and apple slices. and purchased black bean salad. And dessert as noted above. Any other easy additions?
BTW, ds is allergic to tree nuts, which limits the selection. We have some lovely boxed chocolates but each selection has some with nuts. Not sure I'll pass them. I suspect he's not that allergic now, but I don't want to test him. I did try to kill him once by serving green beans with almonds and not warning him. He's suspicious of most bakery product because of cross contamination so I'm not sure he'll try one of the tarts. He went to the ER once in an ambulance from the pediatricians office.
Tomorrow will be busy. I workout at two - will come home from there and shower. Need to run the roomba and refresh bathrooms, would like to get some Hanukkah things down. Also have dh put leaf in the table and set it.

More: I have some small gifts for dh's birthday, and after the purchase of birthday jewelry for me, I asked a friend of his to see what kind of nice bourbon he could get his hands on for dh. Dfriend has a very nice bottle being held, and will see if he can do better tomorrow, if not, dhdf gets the bottle that's being held. I think it's a brand that dh believes is overrated so I hope he appreciates it. The dfriend suggested it as an addition to dh's collection.
Need to get started with our supper.

Too cold for me to want to go outside it is sunny out.
Not used to the cold yet this year.
My team won I did not watch the game however.

In the Village,
Some spiffing of our Focus Cleaning forum brings us up-to-date and ready for 2026 on our "Porch and Entry" Monday, tomorrow.
Cleaning is often what we're about, a big part of our weeks, so to give it a bit of spotlight reminds us how efficient it can be.
(Neighbors as knowledgeable as ours are a wealth of how-tos "in" each room, for advice, complaining, inspiration.
Even more fun to work together in spaces.)
So, WITH a place to chat.
AND a brief informative video.
Clickable links.
The simple calendared plan OR welcoming of other plans beckons - do tell.
Attention to cleaning rotation then provides the time
to keep our homes lovely, so we can move on
to the creative and fun, to the projects near to our hearts.
I'll be posting that whole thought again tomorrow, I bet! lol.
The calendar is complete, so I have a couple places to copy/tack/tape it, for cardfile and planner. I may even go back to fridge-front. And will probably try for decluttering in each room/area during each week ahead, too, to make surface-cleaning easier.

I don't know if the Apple I phone commercials are the same in the US or UK as they are in Canada, but they have had a really cute one playing here for the past couple of weeks A human drops their phone in a forest. Some woodland creature picks it up and turns it on, propping it up. Then there is some singing "Friends play together... LA LA LA LA..." etc. With numerous choruses of LA LA LA LA!! throughout the commercial. At the end they just show the Apple symbol.
Quite honestly, I think of this group, and in my mind, I am thinking "Friends clean together, LA LA LA LA!" We've been cleaning and "playing" together for many years, through divorces, death or simply drifting away. So....
LA LA LA LA!!

blessed, just hop up tomorrow morning and thank your dmother for being so nice lately! Assume she'll be pleasant and who knows, you may convince her that she is. Remind of things she did/times she was pleasant over the last few days? Maybe those will kind of come back to her. Big hugs to you and best wishes. How is your boo-boo from dd's dog bumping you?

Oh, ((Cathy)), that's the kindest thing to say, especially since right then I was hoping no one would think I was being silly with so much thinking about us cleaning together. YES, love that commercial.
Twins' enjoy time with ds, especially, tomorrow night. It's true that it's hard to decide to start up entertaining of regular guests, not to even mention new couples at this time, when you are tired already. Sounds like you have a handle on it. But do be clear as a bell with dh that this is special for his sake, not everyday occurrences or you will burn out, Hoping he is really looking forward to it for his day.
