I’m starting to review my H & F stats for 2025. Since I’m beginning a couple of days early, I won’t have the exact numbers yet, but because I average my daily scores each month, there’s not enough time left in the year to change the number by more than about a tenth of a point.
Reduce Sedentary Time - I started this habit in February 2025.
My
why this habit is important - Being sedentary for hours each day leaves my body feeling stiff and achy. For me, the saying “motion is lotion” is absolutely true. Just a couple of minutes of movement
(250+ steps) each hour is all it takes to shake off the stiffness. Also, I notice that moving seems to increase my energy level and overall mood.
How I track the hourly movement - Each hour between 7am and 7pm my fitbit watch vibrates to remind me to move my body if I don't already have at least 250+ steps in that hour. Most of the time I exceed 250 steps so my watch won't need to remind me. It is a quirky game I play with myself to try and get hourly steps in before my fitbit watch needs to remind me. I do love to play ME vs ME games, but in this case, it is a ME vs fitbit game.
Some hours it just isn't possible, and I am 100% okay with that. Yesterday sitting in church service my watch vibrated to let me know I hadn't taken any steps that hour. When I am driving, I do not get steps in. When I am standing in the kitchen cooking, I do not get steps in. I try for 80% success and know that real life is never perfect. 80% of 12 hours is 9.6 which means 10 hours a day is my goal.
The first month I focused on developing this habit resulted in not being sedentary an average of 5 hours a day. As I became more aware and intentional the hours that I moved increased. In May the hours that I did more than 250 steps went up to 12. Overall for the year, the hours that I am not sedentary are averaging 10 hours a day.
Analysis & decision - are the benefits worth the effort to continue this habit into 2026?
