"May the Fourth" be with you - Wednesday

Post by Twins' Mom »

It's Star Wars Day, get it?

What kind of force or super-power do you have today?

Ability to run hundreds of errands efficiently?

Ability to eat an elephant, one bite at a time?

Ability to keep your home looking its best?

Ability to keep the books for businesses far and wide?

We all have special talents and interests, how will you use yours?
Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better [wo]man. Ben Franklin

Glad you started the thread today! I love the opening.

The force shall be guiding me through paperwork and plasterwork.

The bathrooms are emptied. Most of the bedroom surfaces are emptied as well and there's a sheet cover the bed. I made dh move the guitars from the wall in the front hall.

Putting the doors on the dining room for me to shut myself off is really a blessing because I shut myself in from the plaster dust and have the patio door open for fresh air. The kitchen is also able to be shut off. So there are two sanctuaries today.

Tomorrow we have to empty our parking spot for garage cleaning so will move dh's bike tonight and park the car on the road tomorrow (guest parking is full with people who have already had their cars moved because of construction.) I brought the wheel chair up (my bike is upstairs for winter in the wheel chair's normal place so it was in the garage all winter) and the off-season tires are at ds's place. At some point we'll lose the parking spot for weeks on end, but that hasn't been announced yet.

There's a sign in the hall about no heat but I was in a rush so didn't take the time to read it. I'm actually looking forward to the heat being turned off but need to know the day.

I'm having tea and chocolate at the moment and trying to wake up. It was a short night.

Fort McMurray is on fire. It is a city of 80,000 in northern Alberta with only two routes out of town, north up into the reservations and oil sands production area or south. The city has been evacuated and people are trying to get away. It is very sad and the story dominating our news.

Hi!!

I'm still discovering and re-discovering my superpowers! Having a garage that is bigger in square footage than my house helps me be more organized. Having a huge kitchen with a massive island helps me re-discover my love of cooking. I can have 2 cutting boards and 3 pots and the small bucket for the composter and a whole variety of knives and spices within reach to make a meal. Dh says I go overboard some nights. He said there is no need to have meat, potatoes and 2 vegetables on a week night.

Having a large closet and a 9 drawer dresser helps me put things away in a mostly timely manner when it comes to looking after our clothes. Having my own washer and dryer is much better than using public machines. Using a certain folding method certainly helps when it comes to putting things into drawers or even when getting dressed. Dh is just happy that he doesn't live out of a laundry basket anymore when it comes to socks and underwear. The fact that I increased the number of socks and underwear over the past 20 months isn't hurting either.

Oh my goodness... I think my superpower is being a stay at home wife! Of course it really helps that I am with a man that loves and respects me.
Dh used to live in Fort Mac over 30 years ago. He could not believe it last night. He opened his computer and looked at me and said "Fort Mac is on fire!!"
Dishes never stop.
Laundry never stops.
Litter boxes never stop.
Paper never stops.

Cathy: now that I'm lower carbing, I have meat and 2 veg, sometimes 3 for dinner most nights. I've never been one for casserole type meals. Dh still makes a potato for himself and I often grab a bite or two of them, but I seldom make potatoes for myself now. I cook up squash, mash it, and freeze it in single servings, so that is often my potato substitute, especially for dinners where mashed would be the logical potato.

The workmen are staging their things now.

May the "Fourth" be with you, Kathryn, as you face all this plastering and DUST! How horribly sad about Fort McMurray. Hard to envision a whole town being evacuated for a fire. No matter where it is. Praying for that municipality and all it's people.

We're under severe thunder storm warning (or is it watch). Had some rolling thunder and lightning around 7 and heavy rain. Fell back asleep (actually slept quite well last night for a change) but then I dreamed vividly of DShelley. Remember telling her she had a "2nd chance, NO -actually a miraculous 2nd chance." It would truly be a miracle since she's been gone for nearly 7 years now.

Imagine Sunny and Harmony both have been under all that t-storm watch as well. Stay safe and hopefully no tornadoes out of it.

DD has taken DBailey to the vet for her shots and to get her nails trimmed. When she returns we're making a trip to IKEA. Couldn't have picked a worse day for travel to Orlando! I'm hoping to go the 'back way' -much longer in time but sure avoids I-4 traffic in the rain!

Have to get off the computer, shut 'er down and unplug it. Have a good day using all your powers.
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

I have started laundry. The animals have been fed, the dog did laps around the back yard for some of her exercise at 5 a.m. we got up at four. Slept in the basement part of the nite the dog thought it was a slumber party lol! The sunrise was lovely this morning.

T-storms are in our forecast for tomorrow.

After reading Kathryn's mention of Fort McMurray, I turned on the news and found it a big story here. Very sobering footage - how astonishing. So fast.

I am not that much of a Star Wars fan - I suppose my enjoyment of brief entertainment like short articles or short stories rather than novels carries over to my enjoyment of brief media of all kinds rather than long sagas all at one time. But I would certainly have enjoyed Obi Wan Kenobi's ability to say, "this is not what you want to do" to my children on many occasions, lol.

helia, I am thinking of ((your dd)) today and hoping she feels well enough to attend school on days she thinks she must. I'm so sorry her fever has coincided with an AP test. Dd also has one today but it is English and she hasn't mentioned concerns about it. I'm afraid I've been so preoccupied with the funeral, etc., to listen, though.

Happy belated Birthday to Sadie.

So far in Fort Mac, there has been no death. There have been 2 births though!

Dinner tonight is burgers at a Canadian burger chain! Yay! 2 can dine for $9.99!!

Dh needs to go sign something at a local business. I also want to drop off 3 separate bags of donations in my trunk. It's gorgeous and sunny here.
