Art, Craft and Needlework, October, 2024

Post by Harriet »

Gearing Up! •-:¦:-••:*''''*:•

It's the final 3 months of 2024, just a month until Halloween fun and probably about 2 to 2.5 months until the likeliest times of gift-giving, enjoying holiday decor decisions, entertaining.

So, that's PART of the creativity story right now - possible goals for upcoming holiday moments.

Other parts might be fun projects you'd be doing anyway because you love them so much! :) AND longer-term goals of finishing bigger projects.

Let us know what art, craft and needlework October finds you gearing up!

Finished up the set of dish cloths and hot pads I've been working on yea!
2 of ea. are now completed. Shades of green biege & yellow.

The new ones are cranberry red dish cloths one done one under way.
One of two white hot pads started.
Frustrated b/c I cannot find red or green yarn for a strip on the next one.

Red and white is a favorite for kitchen towels/cloth, etc. for me, Nancy, even window curtain. There's a reason that restaurants use red and white! Also, I think I've read that food packaging does well with red on the front because things look appetizing against red.

DgdC has moved along on her quilt blocks and is working on her third. When she returns, the 12-inch block she's working on will need a solid 4-inch middle patch and the four corner units of four-patches. I won't cut anything without her, even though it is tempting to do that much so that I know it's right, lol.

Mending of stuffed animal worked well - hand sewing. He can't take much more hard play, though! He is an old tiger!

The most recent thing I can't find since our move :( which I didn't realize until now, is a small autumn wall-hanging I made that I would really, really like to display this fall. I used it many times at the other house for fall decor. It's a finished piece, so it wouldn't be stored in the sewing closet/room. I've looked in drawers, on racks, under the bed ... .. Sigh. I will probably find it at Christmastime or something.

Searched again, turning quilts on the racks inside out, lol, trying to find anything hidden. Still no wall-hanging, but I did rediscover one interesting thing that I'm glad I've hung onto. Another vintage quilt top, but this one actually pieced by the wife of one of my ddad's relatives, so likely made in a family home he knew well. So, with a definite connection to my ddad, this one goes to the top of my "finishing other people's work" UFO stack. I've measured and made a 3x5 for it with all I know. Next, I need to try to look up the pattern and get a name for that.

Really have to start thinking about what projects I truly want to keep here, though. There are only so many hours in a day, days in a week, etc. And even getting things quilted by machine somewhere costs money, takes effort. So much more fun in working on my own ideas and not doing anything out of guilt.

I had a lite bulb moment  when I was journaling about my sewing goals this morning.
I can sew instead of listening to current events class that is war news and pretty stressful.
Luv that idea!
Got some progress on my next crochet hot pad going the white before I add a cranberry colored stripe.

OMM / Sewing retreat weekend at home.
I have quite a bit of projects too consider.

Today's question is about mile posts and I chose half way...
What am I half way with or through.
over 1/2 way done with the week & my day.
I have half of a dish cloth knit up now.
I marked pj's/ and pressed hem area for two other pieces of fabrics as well while I was down stairs.

Hemmed a fall wall hanging realized that was only half done but put it on the table for a runner and folded the selvages under to finger press
and it looks done! LOL! Took the table cloth of so this works till I hem that. Then I can hem the other too.

1/2 way there on hem marking pinned the length plus hem. Yea for progress on the to do sewing pile!
Calling this preptober!

Learned to fill a bobbin that is at the top of my machine I had to stand up to do that.
I've been using prefilled bobbins till now.
Next up Press the hem on a tablecloth to hem for weaving zone workstation.

Made a list and checked my thread supplies I need a lite blue shade could use some others as well.

Projects for these are listed as well example tan thread for brown shade fabrics to make market bags.
Previous ones were what I'm making with various fabrics.
Like get pj pants flannel fabric prewash & press. X
Get cotton fabric in shades of blue to fill in some spots in my color pallet.
Got some need more good for straps and accents.

Sort and look for thread colors needed for first 4 projects.
