Art, Craft and Needlework, November, 2024

Post by Harriet »

November can't help it -

it points toward the holidays like a neon sign. (Well, a very cozy neon - maybe in autumn colors. :) )

For get-togethers there may be decor to create, or possibly mend.

For gift-giving, there may be the warm thoughts of others to put into tangible, wrap-able form.

Those of us keeping up with Holiday Grand Plan's emphasis on homemade creativity continue to press toward the HGP ideal, "Work at least 1 hour a day on homemade gifts". In fact now, in Family Room Week, the specific week instructions tell us in no uncertain terms, "Keep Working on those gifts!"

Is this the direction your November creative juices are flowing? Or are you mending, making household items, organizing your stash or creative area?
Do tell!

Doing a sewing challenge and put a zipper in with a diff. method.
Making like a large pouch it's like from hand to elbow in both directions for size.
I put a silver elastic loop on the inside to clip keys or what ever to it.

Did the a..m. & p.m.crochet quota on Fri. & Sat too.
Sewed on Fri. not on the weekend.

Finished up a hot pad started one more this is the last one in the set also will finish up the batch.

Got a tomato & strawberry pin cushion this week.

I need to take a photo of a quilt that my gran made it has seen better days.

Today I am putting this here so I do not forget it.
Thought of a project to do with upcyling some I'll fitting clothing.
I need to bag them up.
Learn quilt as you go and make a dog blanket out of some jeans and shirts!

I'm on the last hot pad of this batch of 12 sets / 2 hot pads & 2 dish cloths bagged up for
the holiday food baskets the church is doing this month.

I have to take a break from crafts to let my hands heal they are painfully cracked.

I did get two new fabric pieces / clearance 2 yds.
One a fun floral print on soft cream back ground with reddish roses on it.
I am using for a cover on the rolling desk in the dining room.
I cleared it off.

1 Yd. Waverly yellow with butterfly print used for a photo back drop.
Will cut for the strip projects bags probably.

Mon.
I did knit up a few sections on my dish cloth today.
My sis mentioned that I put on loop on the hot pads to hang them up with [10 stitches] I added that for hanging up.
It was not on the pattern she had not thought of doing that.

Two Joan bags of the dish cloths and hot pads sets 6 in each were well received at the church yesterday.

Nancy, I hope your hands heal well! Ouch. The new fabrics sound pretty. That's wonderful that most of the baskets will have your gifts in them.

Dd26 has so little time that the idea of crocheting together is just not working out. I've done reading about crochet and have learned about myself that I never knew how to read a pattern, just knew how to follow what others did right in front of me, lol. Simple ordinary yarn bought.

Dd44 put our library resources onto this new tablet, and I have appreciated that now I can read all kinds of fiber arts and crafting magazines and "save" them on a "bookshelf" for 7 days of reading. Is this something just in my area or do other libraries do this for free? It's called "Libby" here, which I guess is a cute way of saying library accessed at home. I haven't branched out into other areas of interest yet - there are no more than 24 hours in a day.

Creativity bright spots elsewhere on our boards

from blessed
I had to laugh after I was so sure that I would finish my appliqué - I cut the fusible webbing and bottom of piece was just a bit too small. I had imagined it being done tonight! dd older and I had such a good laugh about it. So close!!! I missed it by ... this.. much :D

and Twins' Mom
who is also making Hannukah cards
I have figured out my way through trying to sell some stamp sets online in a FB Buy/Sell group for Stampin up products. I took photos, uploaded to group, have one set of four sold almost immediately. Some I've never used. We'll see how this works. Perhaps it's better than hauling boxes and boxes of stuff to a donation site?

and Cathy set this lovely scene
Dh put a roaring fire on while he watched the Bill's (NFL) football game. They won! I sat with him and did some cross stitching. We also had some hot chocolate.

Thanks for noting my crafting efforts over here. I've made several Hanukkah cards today, maybe getting a little more into it?

I also sat at my kitchen table and cross stitched this morning. Then I went to the "craft" group at a local senior's center this afternoon and the other lady who was there was starting to make a pine cone wreath on a wire wreath form. She is donating it to the annual senior's Christmas dinner which is in 4 weeks. She hopes she can get it done by then. Knowing her, she will. This woman is very creative and always makes something amazing for every occasion.

I could not find kelly green cotton yarn locally.
Got tired of waiting for it to com in to stock. So I ordered it from Amz.
Now waiting to see if the gift card has enough on it for that.
Nope but I had gotten a new one just in case so that should be getting shipped out soon.

-----

After decluttering tee shirts made a market bag from one that I like the well worn saying.
Win win! Gotta luv up-cycling.
I have made up a holiday one and two others three as a total now.

One afternoon this week (it's a blur, actually) I tallied up the types of cards I have in "inventory." I need more Hanukkah cards for sure. I have this weekend, next week, and Thanksgiving week up to Thursday. On Friday, day after T-giving, we go to NYC.

I received in the mail today some additional Hanukkah stamps. Feeling stale since I don't own that many so this will help branch out.
