Stockland Castle refers to two Iron Age hill forts in Devon, England: Stockland Great Castle and Stockland Little Castle.

Stockland Great Castle is a larger, univallate (single rampart and ditch) hillfort. The fort has an unusual, irregular shape and is bisected by a modern road, though its outline is still clear in aerial images. The ramparts were substantial, with remnants up to 17 metres wide and 3 metres high, and slingshot stones have been found nearby.

Stockland Little Castle is a smaller, embanked enclosure typical of the period.: It is characterized by an external ditch and rampart, dating from the late Iron Age or early Roman period. It was a lightly defended agricultural settlement that would have contained dwellings.

The two sites are associated with each other and were constructed around the same time.
These forts are important examples of Iron Age settlements in Great Britain.

The earthworks are still visible, particularly Stockland Great Castle which is a Scheduled Monument, the remains stand at heights of up to 2 metres.

Happy Sunday, kittykatt! What a cool little history lesson. Do you take castles for granted being so close to them, or are you near any? I’m in awe of another period in time with kings and queens and castles although I know they still exist. Any castles here are made within the last century or so and not the same, the first that comes to mind is Cinderella’s castle at Disney World, a total fabrication. Thanks for the geography lesson too.

I’ve got clean sheets on the bed, clean covers on the couch, kitchen cleaned up, pets tended to, so I’m turning in. See you later today.
♥ Wake each day expecting good things to happen! ♥

Good morning / good night, Bama! I grew up near Corfe Castle, and in those days you were able to scramble over all the ruins and have your picnic lunch sitting in a nice big flat stone! That probably isn't permitted these days, both from "health and safety" and also in the interests of preserving what's left of the monument.

Good morning, lovies! We're off to the museum in less than an hour, and we have errands to run after we get back, so I don't think I'll be stopping by later. But I am cheering you up!

Trissie have a good time at the museum ! You seem to have done lots yesterday with your appels and plums. WTG!

kittykatt, Corfe castle looks interesting, and the ruins always make for some romantic atmosphere, in castles, churches and such. Thanks for sharing about the historical heritage of your living place (and Corfe castle too).

Thanks for the advice yesterday on MrNG's current training prospects. He's typing his appliance letter right now. No way to know yet if he can join the training session this month or if he has to wait another year. In the latter case he can work various jobs in the meantime and earn some money, but probably not enough to qualify for unemployment insurance that would make him earn a small allowance during next year's training session. The French system is very intricate, and of course any allowances or subsidies for training are being suppressed or restricted year after year.
Anyway, the kids and I stayed in bed very late, it's almost 10 and they're still in bed : it will be difficult to have them go to bed early tonight, and therefore tomorrow morning will be very difficult, especially with the prospect of going back to school and starting to study again.
I intended to do some batch cooking this morning but it's a bit late for that. And I discovered we forgot to order garlic in the weekly grocery order so my chickpea curry recipe will not be as tasty as I like (only 3 cloves left).

TADAs
stayed in bed very late
quick cuop
heated water for tea

TODO
tea and some food
prepare chickpea curry for a weeknight meal
prepare courgette and olive bread for tomorrow's dinner
various home chores, see weekly list
no plans for the afternoon, we will see

And now it's afternoon. I've been busy most morning, now I need some rest and quiet. But right now I'm sitting on the couch between the kids and they're trying to understand what I'm typing. It's a bit weird.

Any suggestions for a birthday present for my DNephew and godson who is an only child, lives in a flat in Paris, likes his Switch video games and has busy parents... ? ChatGPT had some suggestions but not very convincing.

TADAs
tea and some food
prepare chickpea curry for a weeknight meal-> mix in the fridge
prepare courgette and olive bread for tomorrow's dinner -> it's cooling
prep lunch, serve lunch, eat lunch, cleanup lunch
also made a chocolate and banana cake with DS7's help
search for ideas for DNephew C--- 13th birthday on Wednesday - still undecided
harvested two handfuls of green beans that are actually purple https://www.atelier-des-bons-plants.fr/ ... hilde-bio/

TODO
freeze beans
get rid of dandelions that are blooming, uproot if possible
vacuum both DS's bedrooms
make weekly list
I would liike to have some me time : unearth a stitching project or start a long-forgotten sewing project ?

Well, Kitty, now I want to go sightseeing in your part of England! Have a good morning at church and enjoy your lunch.
FFB, do the purple "green beans" taste different than regular green beans? I hope your DS9 gets a nicer teacher this year.
Have fun at the museum, trissie!!

I wasn't super productive yesterday after all my errands. I did put a meal on the table, clean up after the meal, do some online shopping (button down shirts for me, a top for Mom, a bday gift for dd27), and my evening screens - duolingo and health apps -- though I forgot one part of one app. LOL! I also gassed the car for the drive to and from church this morning.

Today, is sunny with a forecast high of 75*, kinda perfect weather! We're going to the Anglican church today, so a 30 minute drive each way. We'll need to be on the road by 10 a.m. I didn't jog yesterday, so I'll do that today. Might try for 5K and see how I feel. I think we're going to grill tonight instead of tomorrow night (Labor Day), so a trip to WF for brats, etc. might be on the schedule. And now I need to start thinking about prepping dd27's room as a guest room for dbro, arriving Friday. . . I also need to make my own final exam. I might post my weekly lists in that thread here.

Next:
- back exercises
- s2s and self care
- reclaim kitchen

Later:
- 10 otd to church
- 12:30/ 1 back from church (depends on how long we stay and chat during coffee hour)
- lunch
- jog
- WF
- payroll: start IR Exam
- fridge - 1 shelf
- writing time?
- host Sunday dinner for 8 people -- grill brats, perhaps black bean corn salad, zucchini. . .
- after dinner clean up
- duolingo
- update health apps
- can I read more in book I'm reading with AC?
- clean sheets on bed?
- do I need to do some laundry?

TaDas!
- up; weighed self
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website
