Re: Halina Szymańska Saturday
Halina Szymańska (1906–1989) was a Polish spy, working for the British government, known as the Allies' conduit to Nazi German Admiral Wilhelm Canaris. She was the wife of Colonel Antoni Szymański, the last prewar Polish military attaché in Berlin, and of later General Kazimierz Wiśniowski.
After being recruited by the Allied secret intelligence services (via Polish officers in Bern, Switzerland, who made contact with the British), Szymańska provided a conduit of information between the Allies and Admiral Wilhelm Canaris, chief of the German Abwehr. In autumn 1939 he helped her and her children move from occupied Poland to Switzerland in compensation for a contact with the British Secret Intelligence Service.
Szymańska, as a British agent, met several times with Canaris in Switzerland and Italy. Then she met with his courier, Hans Bernd Gisevius. Szymańska played an important role, as an intermediary, in secret contacts between the Allies and German anti-Nazi conspirators (e.g., the Schwarze Kapelle). In April 1940 she received information about the coming German attack on France and the Benelux countries. In mid-June 1941 Szymańska received information about the coming German attack on the Soviet Union. During World War II she became one of the most effective MI6 agents.
Szymańska had three daughters with Col. Antoni Szymański — Hanka, Ewa and Marysia. All four spent the war in Switzerland, where Halina began her work for MI6 and later the French Deuxieme Reseau, conducting courier work into occupied France, for which she was decorated by the French. Among others, she developed a working relationship with the American Allen Dulles, who then headed the American OSS intelligence office in Bern.
After World War II, Halina Szymańska moved to England and married General Kazimierz Wiśniowski, who had been Chief of Staff to General Władysław Anders, commander of the Second Polish Corps at the Battle of Cassino in 1944. She had one son with him, Piotr Wiśniowski. She settled in Ealing, a suburb of London. She lies buried with her second husband in South Ealing Cemetery.

Re: Halina Szymańska Saturday
Good morning, everyone, and happy Saturday!
Dogged, that was kind of you to help your friend. I suspect pumpkin slime is something to play with, and, from my second hand knowledge of G13yo's experiments with making slime over the summer, it needs to be both made and played with outside!!! ( Her Mum, DF CW has overall control of G's phone and when tracking her search history , found such gems as, "How to get slime out of carpet!".
)
DH has already left for his day on the trains. I need to decide what to do with my day. Definitely some housework, and maybe something in the garden if the weather is kind. And I need to prep lunch for tomorrow, and bake a cake for us. I also need to look at my list of outstanding jobs and see what to tackle. I planted those foxgloves from Dneighbour R yesterday, so I need to return the pots and trays soon. Maybe today?

Happy Saturday!
I am learning so much this week about the crucial role women played in various war. Weaker sex my a*s!
We're home this weekend with no plans, which is a rare treat. Weather should be nice all weekend, so it's gonna be garden time, but this morning (or what's left of it) will be reserved for inhouse works. If we find the kites, maybe that's something we could do? And also the movie night - we're done with Chernobyl, so we'll have to decide what to watch next. I think we have one or two movies from the Pirates of the Carribean left, and then I am kinda thinking about introducing kids to the Bond movies? The new ones, though, there's a lot of nostalgia about Connery Bond movies, but after rewatching them, the period typical sexism is not something I want to see again. Shoot, just checked and there's no Bond on any of our streaming services, so will have to come up with a plan B.
kittykatt, DH really likes his trains! Will they operate all winter?

Re: Halina Szymańska Saturday
Good morning, Trissie! My favourite Bond film is Dr No for some reason. I can't think of anything wildly unsuitable, and Honey Ryder (so?) was a worthy co- conspirator with her self taught education from the volumes of encyclopedia. I can see though , that there might be some explanation required as to why she wears an (admittedly modest by today's standards) white bikini, while everyone else appears to be fully clothed ! I'm also fond of Daniel Craig, especially when he did that scene with the late Queen for the opening of the 2012 Olympics.
The steam railway operates up until Christmas, and they run the hugely popular Polar Express each year. https://southdevonrailwaythepolarexpres ... o-expect/ .
But I think they do take a break for about 6 weeks in the new year
I've enjoyed a slower start this morning, but it's now time to make the very most of this day!

Re: Halina Szymańska Saturday
◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕
Thank you kittykatt for the start and another interesting woman I don't think I ever heard of. So nice that your DH is away today. Wishing you... both productive and relaxing times in your day, maybe both at the same time (gardening can bring that, I think)
Trissie no-plans weekends are great ! No advice on the Bond movies. We are thinking anout the Indiana Jones movies soon, here. I wonder if my kids are ready fir Pirates of the Caribbean yet. Tonight we plan to watch E.T. and since I'm reading the Lord of the Rings with DS9, we will probably have to watch the 1st movie soon.
Autumn school break is starting. Both kids will go to daycare the first week, and Monday Tuesday the second week, after that I tzke 3 days off and we will be in Paris on the 31st. No trickortreating this year.
The two weeks will be mostly rainy, starting tomorrow, after 10 days of gorgeous weather... oh well, we will all manage.
MrNG had a job interview on Thursday that he had planned to go to, then turn down, due to his current training, but it paid well and would have suited him mostly - with the major risk of being boring as h-ll after the first 6 months. Then during the interview he realised they were nice people with nice ideas, and he could like it, and it's 12 mi.utes away from home, and many other good things : he went back home with a serious dilemma.
But... yesterday they didn't call, as they said they would if he was okayed by them all... big rejection feeling for him. Disappointment for me : this would have been an immediate financial relief and I would hzve been able to change jobs with less pressure about the salary.
Anyway... another emotilnally exhausting week is gone.
TADAs
Up, bfast
A few harsh words from MrNG ( but I unthinkingly said something not nice yesterday evening )
Drove DS9 to athletics practice
No handball for DS7, I walked a longer way to the bakery and back - 5km
Streched, put bread in the car
TODOs
Get DS9 back home (maybe 20 mns at local skatepark before ?)
Have lunch together
Bring the kids to shopping area for winter coats ? And a few more clothing items
Probably unplanned things will come up
House tasks will wait till Sunday (rainy)
Family movie night with pizzas - E.T. ?

Re: Halina Szymańska Saturday
Good afternoon,FFB! (((HUGS))) over Mr NG's job situation. These things can be so stressful. However, I wouldn't lose all hope of the job just yet. I can think of several good reason why ko one rang yesterday - maybe someone was sick, or had a sick child or other household/ family emergency. It could also come down to person A thinking that person B was going to call Mr NG, person B thinking the opposite, a they haven't yet communicated with each other, especially as yesterday was Friday and someone may have had to leave work early for some reason. Hoping you can still all enjoy the weekend, despite the uncertainty.
I've made slow progress, but it's all progress. I thinky next task will be to hoover and dust the sitting room, while the first delicate LOL finishes (I like to be around to take that out of the machine and hang up as soon as it finishes -saves on ironing!
) and then out the towels into wash, as it really doesn't matter too much with them if I get carried away in the garden.
