November 2025 - Sort, Tidy, Declutter!

Post by Harriet »

Here we are in November!
The end of Daylight Savings Time happens tonight for all who observe.

How will MORE light in the morning but LESS light in the evening affect or possibly help your household and the clutter battle within?

The end of Cleaning Focus Rounds for the year is upon us, for all who observe! :) The idea being that after four rounds of cleaning through the house during the year, to go into Maintenance for the last portion of the year, in order to have a more celebratory, CALMER holiday/hosting month. Of course, not a perfect scheme - Canadians already celebrated Thanksgiving!

Right now, Focus is in the Dining Room finishing up the four rounds of annual cleaning schedule.

Monday begins:

Maintenance Round

11/3/2025 Thanksgiving week one
11/10/2025 Thanksgiving week two
11/17/2025 Thanksgiving
11/24/2025 holiday décor

Since we don't host a meal at our house anymore, I think of Maintenance in November as generally getting our kitchen in order, neat, clean, and also some brain-storming on how we dine. What can we do to become more hospitable in general? ... .. in order to give ourselves a healthier kitchen? And more time for getting ready for our family get-together in December.

November goal: get more of stamping stuff out of my workroom upstairs...sell, donate, whatever...

Nancy, thank you! I do like the way she says our homes should reflect our lives as they are now, not as they used to be, or what we think we might want to be "some day"!

I watched one today on the swedish way and decluttering
Not much new info. on it.

I have let go of 4-5 boxes of peanut butter jars.
Someone was going to be making candles and wanted them.
The changed their mind and never picked em up.
So it was time & they are gone now yea!

Today I decluttered, cleaned and reorganised the final two under bed storage drawers. I e also pulled the head of the bed out a bit further from the wall, so I can pull the drawers that end out without having to move the bedside tables first. It does look a little strange with the bed out further from the wall, but DH hasn't said anything (has he even noticed? ) and I think ease of function is more important to me right now than aesthetics.

I have pulled out DH's chest of drawers and my dressing table and cleaned behind and underneath. Also taken down the pictures, cleaned them and washed the woodwork. An reorganised the boxes of Christmas goodies. I have decided that even if DH does still go to Leeds next week, (which would be a good opportunity to tackle the spare room /office) I'm going to continue to work in the bedroom instead . I've made good progress in here, and it would be a real boost to ha e another room completed before my cut off date of the end of this month.

Things I still need to do to declutter /deep clean bedroom:

Wipe down woodwork on door frame and along skirting board either side
Take books off bookshelf, declutter , dust and replace: shelf#1, #2
Declutter and clean pine box
Bedside cabinet drawers #1#2#3
Dressing table drawers #1#2#3#4
Go back through under bed storage - I'm sure there is more I can declutter, to make space for some lesser used items from my wardrobe ( This does mean more work for me short term, but long term I will be rewarded by a more accessible wardrobe!)

Good job on bedroom organizing and decluttering, Kittykatt.

I've done a rotation of the quilts on the two racks in the bedroom. In the den, I've taken the fall quilt down and put a red bordered basket quilt up. It does a good job of being "Christmasy", but fine for the winter months to first of spring.

Have gotten the utility bedcovers ready for extra warmth, too.

Another bedroom decision - I'm going back to the notepad beside the bed, on a bedside table. It's started to bug me that I have a thought when I don't have pen and paper. That will also be decluttering of thoughts, capturing and helping organize ideas. I don't know how I ever got out of that good habit.
