The Wise Men (Magi) in the nativity story were astrologers or priests from the East who followed a star to find the newborn Jesus, presenting him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to honor him as a king, In Western Christianity, they are commemorated on the feast day of Epiphany—sometimes called "Three Kings Day"—and commonly appear in the nativity celebrations of Christmas. In Eastern Christianity, they are commemorated on Christmas day.

Happy Wednesday everyone! And happy Christmas Eve to all who celebrate - I know Trissie's main Christmas meal takes place today.

Today's main events - Waitrose are supposed to deliver between 9 and and 10 am. DH has a doctor's appointment at 12.30pm, so I can send him to pick up anything Waitrose did t have and we can't do without.

My other tasks for today, clean the kitchen, hoover the car, sort out the garden and cook our Christmas Eve meal. DH wants to go carol singing before the Bethlehem Mass this evening, which means everything has to be slightly earlier. If I'm too exhausted by this evening, I'll skip Mass, have an early night and go to the 8 o'clock Eucharist tomorrow morning at our parish church instead. So I have a backup plan!

I didn't konw that the EAstern church celebrated the Wisemen on Christmas day. In our children's program, there were 3 wisemen, and a 4th child held a stick (like a fishing rod) with a star hanging from it. That child led the 3 "wisemen" around the church as they "followed the Star" until they cam to the place where the Holy Family was.
It was a cute addition that hadn't been done before.
I've done almost all of my baking, and have cleaned up most of it. That is major for me!
In the morning, i will try to make my MIL Flatbread, and do the prep for evening meal, which I will bring to dfBS and we will eat together.
Oyster stew, Spinach salad with pomegranate and walnuts, cheddar-onion biscuits; cookies for dessert.

I have a wrapping center at Mother's house. I need to wrap for ds and his family - we open on Christmas Day. I always save them for last, because I have so many that I have to mail, those people get done first. It always seems kind of backwards, because ds and his family shoudl be most important! But they are the closest.
Our Public Radio station will be broadcasting King's College Lessons and Carols live. I want to listen to that while I finish up in my kitchen.

Gma, that's a lovely tradition to have with the three wise men!

Helia, next time, if you can't find someone willing or able to loop the skein of wool over their hands to hold it in place for you while you wind it into a ball, you can always turn a chair upside down and loop the skein over two legs instead.

L.Ann, that's scary about the money going missing, but glad DD eventually got it back.

Dogged, I hope your sum of money can also be resolved.

Latest update, Waitrose ETA is 8.42am -912 am (I love how they're so precise! ) DH has announced that A Bit has fallen off the washing machine  Which Bit? Turns out it's a piece of trim, so purely cosmetic, but that's another job for me to do. :x On the bright side, although it's still dark outside, it appears to be dry, so that will make the outdoor jobs a lot easier today. :D

◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕

Happy Christmas Eve Day !

Kittykatt, thanks for the start ! Sorry your washing machine has lost a piece, I hope you can glue it back on somehow.

Gma, glad you're done with the baking and cleanup. Your Christmas Eve menu sounds interesting, I never had oyster stew.

The three Wisemen (les trois rois mages or three Magi kings) for me, were three nicely dressed, tiny men in the Nativity Set my parents had. (and they still have it). When the parents weren't watching we would play a bit with the painted clay figures, and the three wisemen weren't "allowed" to be near the baby before Epiphany day so they were put in the background, but their clothing was different and nice, not plain clothes like the shepherds, so it was tempting to use them to invent stories... and we would hurriedly put every figure back when my parents arrived in the rooom !
5 days without work, a little bit of wrapping still to do, and a present for MrNG that I need to "put together" on a USB memory stick. Our menu for tonight is various toasts, baked scallops in their shells for the kids (store bought), flambé scallops for the grownups, and MrNG will bake a yule log (or else we have ice-cream yule logs in the freezer) for dessert. That's not much prep except for MrNG's baking.
Right now MrNG just drove my car to a garage and then the mandatory check, I hope the car passes the check without expensive repair. The kids seem rather quiet this morning but it may not last.

TADAs
up late, breakfast, talk with MrNG re meals and organisation
previous lol finished folding
one kid up and sort of fed (mostly sugary things)
another kid up...

TODOs
clean up the pellet stove, fill with pellets
clean up breakfast table
assemble things on the USB memory stick as present for MrNG
read Christmas story to kids ?
prep lunch
not sure what, in the afternoon, then some easy cooking,
probably a family movie before evening meal,
not sure what before late bedtime...

What a lovely childhood memory, Frenchie! And yeah, there shouldn't really be the Magi at the nativity set before Epiphany, just like there shouldn't be a Baby Jesus before Christmas Eve night, but I don't think most people care or realize. I'm afraid our Magi from the gingerbread nativity will meet their tasty end long before Jan 6! :-)
kittykatt, a washer falling apart on Christmas Eve is no fun, but at least it was non-essential part!
did you do the baking in your kitchen, or at your mom's, gma?

Christmas here. I was up till 1am and I was so tired my legs were shaking. Didn't finish the wrapping, but it's only a couple little things that are left (family photos for grandparents to be wrapped, print vouchers and prepare money envelopes), so I can hide in the office and get that done during the day. Food preps are done, turkey needs to go into oven around 11:30, and the kitchen is pretty messy, so that's where I will start. I don't want to think about a list right now, so maybe later?

TaDas
- later start, but up and attem
- dressed to shoes
- coffee and breakfast (the very, very nice braided Christmas bread)
- reading

ToDos
- morning routine
- clean kitchen
- fold laundry from yesterday

I hate a messy kitchen, Trissie…. Although evening kitchen clean up isn’t my favorite time of the day. No Little Bit today and DD33 has the center so I am looking forward to the last minute stuff. The bank actually returned the money in about a week and there were no charges so it could have been worse. It was used to pay a bunch of electric company charges and then a couple of weird companies, helian.
